Where are all the oldies?

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 8:13 am

Most of us have been staying away because the new "fans" are rabid. If you say anything at all negative about the game they go berzerk and try to chase you out of the thread. Many of us have been around since Morrowind and occasionally we see something we don't like, features that are returning that we hated in Oblivion (compass) or certain things getting axed, or the changes (or lack of big changes) between Oblivion and Skyrim (that we can see so far). If we mention any of these things, its nothing but flames. The new players, who are fans of the more casual direction the game has taken since it started to be built primarily on the console, do NOT accept different opinions, by and large.

I'm not here much anymore. Almost at all actually, unless it's to try to zing a familiar friend. Once I became part of a smaller community site it became much more difficult to come back here as frequently. Community Discussion used to be a lot different, and much more open, even with politics and religion disallowed. There were much less people back then as well, and I don't hold it against the moderators or whatever for keeping this place the way it is, just saying, it's mostly because I seem to see endless variations of the same threads that I don't spend much time here.

I left for a while and lurked occasionally but I've been back posting frequently since the release of Fallout: NV.

 You might not know me though, I browsed around the Morrowind forums a while after I joined when they weren't so active, dabbled a bit in modding but not too much. Didn't bother with Oblivion forums though I played the game. Think I was always more of a CD poster :P

To be honest, I recognize almost zero names from the older members. But I do remember you, former NaNoWriMo buddy.

...where are all the '06, '05 and '04 members hiding out...

I pop in every few months, mostly to give Ro or Summer a poke in the ribs 'til they laugh.

And I usually only speak when spoken to.
Many threads continue well beyond the re-hashing point, and most are settled on the first page.
No need to chime in lest it become rote.

Hiya, Rohugh and Summer! :wavey:

when the forums got hacked my password was reset and my old account was tied to an old e-mail that is now defunct. Tried to go through support to gain access again but I never heard anything back.

I've been around for a while, still pretty active. Though, I rarely venture out of CD, and when I do it's only to the Morrowind sections.

To be entirely honest I think the Morrowind fans come off even more rabid than the newer fans, especially when it comes to less significant things (EG spears). They also have a much harder time seeing things from other angles as if TES games all were modelled off Morrowind's mechanics, when Morrowind (and subsequently Oblivion) were the odd ones out. Personally in my opinion, Skyrim is more a nod to the older TES games and it excites the living hell out of me.

Well, I've been around since Oblivion was announced. My original name was theartofshadow, but recently I had to make a new account. One day my password didn't work and I can't even reset it because the reset goes to an email I closed years ago :sadvaultboy:

But I'm still a faithful member of the BGS Forums! :yup:

Been flicking through the forums quickly and I'm somewhat suprised. Where have all the forum members gone dating back to Oblivion and before. Its great to see the Elder Scrolls is attracting new gamers, or maybe just new members to the forum.
But where are all the '06, '05 and '04 members hiding out. You still here guys or are you biding your time till the serious talk starts upon release?

I am here, I played morrwind before I had a good pc and nothing better than dial up.

There are a few that hang around, figure most of them are lurkers nowadays though.

I guess I would be considered an 'adolescent' in forum age.

My usual whinge is "I'd be a patriarch if only they'd add my old post-count to my new one". Anyway, been here since 2006, which is older than some and not as old as others; which is like, er, really profound. Man.

Edit: in fact it's my fifth anniversary on Monday. Yay, etc.

Still around, on my 3rd username. kept on getting "acount will be unlocked in 10 minutes". Once it would get down to 1 minute it would reset to 10 minutes. This will be my 1st post under my new name....... do I still get fishy sticks?

Same here. I've been around since '06, but after the hacker thing and they made everyone change the passwords I had to make a new account. My email address that was posted was no longer active.

and I chalk up your post to total opinion since not only are you not the first person to think that way, but you like the others never produce examples or post detailing this. almost 100 percent of the time peeps like you think that if someone does not like Oblivion They are INSTANTLY Morrowind fans, and to be quite honest there really aren't that many. Nor do I think you have an inkling of why people like Morrowind to this day when shored up to Superior Graphics and Game mechanics.
