So little Ultima love on these lists. I must be on a forum with a bunch of youngins.

I'm not sure when Ultima came out but I never played it. My first RPG was the demo of Daggerfall than came in my PC Gamer magazine, back when it was actually worth reading. I think that was 1995, but I'm not really positive.

Before that I was playing mainly adventure games and sports games and racing games. I did play Doom and Wolfenstein 3D and Duke Nukem 3D.

It doesn't make my list. Not even close. Maybe an honorable mention for ushering in a new generation of graphical complexity (3-D landscapes, monster models, dungeon environments, slightly more realistic looking people.)

1. The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
2. Age of Empires II: Age of Kings
3. Rome: Total War
4. Dragon Age: Origins
5. Medieval II: Total War
6. Age of Mythology
7. Age of Empires III
8. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
9. Neverwinter Nights
10. Mount & Blade: Warband

I could change their position somehow, but so far I'm reluctant to enter Skyrim in my Top10

2. Battlefield 2142

Amazing someone mentioned that.. it is my favorite game though :P

Although when 2143 comes out I feel as if it will give a bad reputation to 2142 due to DICE's current mindset....

Probably close to the top 50. I have played a lot of games in my life and many stand out with very fond memories of my time playing them. Skyrims world is a great place to explore while you are playing it, but there is nothing in it that is very memorable. I can't see myself two years from now remembering any one particular good memory about Skyrim, other than simply it was a lot of fun to play at the time.

I have absolutely no regrets in purchasing Skyrim, but I also mourn the lost potential of the game. Its really good, but if they had just put another year into making it a real vibrant RPG world with choices and consequences, deep character interaction, it could have been the most amazing game I ever played. Sadly, its this missed potential that really ends up skewing my view of the game over time.

Skyrim *might* make my top 10 in terms of hours played, but isn't in the list as a favorite. There are too many nostalgic faves that can never be topped.

1) Adventure - Atari 2600
2) Legacy of the Ancients - C64
3) Bard's Tale I & II - C64
You're listing Bard's Tale 1 (excellent) and other C64 games, but not Archon or MULE? How dare you! (I actually thought of Daggerfall as the perfect/improved successor to Bard's Tale.) I'd also add some others in as well, such as Zork 1 - 3 and Summer & Winter Games.

Also, both Bandit Kings of Ancient China and Civ 1 caused physical injuries to several athletic college students. If obsession leading to injury (from sitting in a chair for > 24 hours) is a measure of greatness, either of these would be at the top.

But I'd rate Skyrim pretty high, definitely top 10, maybe top 5--hard to say when you're mixing genres.

Maybe the top 15? Never really thought about it, but no higher than the top 8-10 at the most.

My little bro and I must have played Archon and MULE, each, 1000+ times. Awesome games. And don't forget Seven Cities of Gold!

I'd have to put it at first place, I'm enjoying it so much. I haven't even beat the MQ yet because I've been doing other things.

#1 System Shock 2 [1999]
#2 Ambermoon [1993]
#3 Drakkhen [1989]
#4 Fallout 3 [2008]
#5 Skyrim [2011]

I'll have to finish it first but...

1. Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 with the Tutu mod and others.
Best RPG I've ever experienced.
(I haven't played the Icewind Dale series nor Planescape though I intend to someday)

2. Starcraft 2
The most exhilarating game I've ever played, and continue to play.

3. Bard's Tale
On an IBM XT running in EGA mode. I'll never forget this.

4. Mass Effect 1
One of the best sci-fi stories I've read, seen, played. Also my favorite soundtrack of any game. (ME2 was an EA mess marketed to teenage boys).

5. Panzer General
Probably the best strategic computer game ever made. The SSI masterpiece.

We'll see if Skyrim breaks the top five. So far I'm blown away, and I wasn't a FP RPG fan to begin with. Didn't like Morrowind, Fallout 3, etc. But Bethesda Softworks won me over with Skyrim. Loving it.

3. Diablo I
4. Imperialism
5. Defense Grid
6. Civ II
7. LOTRO
8. Fallout 3
9. Civ V
10. Skyrim
