So, who is looking forward to the arbitrary month-long wait

Post » Sat Jun 16, 2012 7:59 pm

More like 2-3 months? It's 30 days.

Can't stop ROFLing at this post. Way to completely bypass and ignore The Shivering Isles. No Unofficial mod ever rivaled The Shivering Isles.

You do know that PC users got access to Shivering Isles (which was a major expansion and not DLC) at the same time as the Xbox 360 users did dont you?

Empty landscapes and text-based questlines don't really compare.
Nehrim - At Fate's Edge, although that's really a conversion. There was also a spires or archetect guild mod I looked at that seemed interesting.

The Shivering Isles is an expansion pack, that's different to a normal DLC or a mod.

Of course a mod created by a single person (or a small team of people) for free, in their own time when they're available, that's not going to be up to the standard of a six month long expansion pack created by a team of 50 or so professionals with many more tools, expertise that are also getting paid. However there are many mods that come close to the SI.

Remember mods don't just add quests like the official ones do. There are stunning house mods that are 100x better than Bethesda DLCs, landscape mods, combat overhauls, thousands of new armour, weapons, town and city improvements, quest lines, new areas, better visuals, textures, shaders. The majority are to a very, very high standard, with many equal or better Bethesda's standard.

For example, I'm not bigging up my own mod at all, but I created http://tes.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=34199 a while ago now. It's a mod that allows you to see the towns and cities through the windows when you're inside. This is something completely and utterly different to anything Bethesda provide, but it's something I pride myself on being of the highest possible quality. In my opinion, it's something worth having to increase the experience in game by a lot.

But anyway, the point is, whether or not you've ever used mods or not is irrelivant. You cannot slate the wonderful community here for the sheer brilliance that is the mods that they create. Bethesda's community is simply incredible. People seem to get the wrong idea of mods as they think of hex editing or buggy shader packs. It couldn't be more different here.

And that was great work indeed :goodjob: Now, how about a Skyrim version? :hehe:

It's your opinion, which is valid, but just your opinion. There were at least a dozen mods which I would not have traded for SI, though SI was by far the best DLC and best Oblivion-related product BGS did. There were several mods that rival it in size and quality (and significantly surpass Oblivion itself in the quality department).

But it comes down to opinion.

Let's get down to reality:

1 -The Xbox is going to receive them first and there is nothing that we can do about it. I could spend all my time here complaining about the sky being blue, it will not suddenly become pink.

2 - After time some DLCs will be "mandatory" to acquire because of the great length of mods (Ultra-Quality Mods probably not, but medium-quality ones will) that use their resources (Textures, Meshes, Animations, Locations).

3 - A list with three things is better than a list with two things.

Official DLC > Unofficial, poorly written and buggy mods every time.

you what now? haha mods are generally better than anything beth releases the modding community here is huge and the majority know what there doing and are well respected.

This, PC and PS3 users are probably going to want to leave this board to us for a month unless they want to know everything about it.

yup, just so we get a bug free version, or closer and erm....as for this board no spoilers are allowed in general ;)

Lol'd. Unless they open a DLC General Discussion like they do on the Fallout board, you're going to see spoilers here. Not from me, but from Xbox users in general.

As if it even matters to PC players; they got the biggest and most important exclusive of all. And technically they also got the first DLC, not that it's anything relevant.

You are missing the point, which was that mods can easily keep up with anything Bethesda has made as DLC.

By the time DLC is announced, released, and we're waiting 30 days, plenty more mods will have arrived, so that is what will keep me busy.

^This^.

And the DLC better be good or unique if I'm going to be interested in buying it anyhow.

That 30 day wait will be bug fixing time for us non-Box users. I don't really care when I look at it from this perspective. I'd rather have it later and complete rather than earlier and buggy

Indeed, there's bound to be bugs. I consider the 30 day wait as a public beta test.

This thread is so doomed.

Dunno about any of you, but I come to this forum to talk about the game, not have an e-pissing match about who gets what first. TBH, knowing and sharing the history of the CK makes all the mood swinging here sooo provincial anyway. Anyone contending that fact either has no clue about it truly, or is arguing to make themselves feel better.

I can hardly keep up with the moddage that I've cracked open, much less even turn my attention towards a DLC that we may as well guess as to whether or not it will work. That said, in a month I'll wake up and be surprised that the time went by so quickly.

I'm a XBox player and I for one have not been excited one bit about DLC.

There is so much broken in the game that there aren't enough DLC's to fix all the problems with Skyrim.

Maybe when they annouce it and tell us what is in it my view might change, but some drastic things need to be done to get me excited about Skyrim.

Are we supposed to care? If anything, with some luck the month gap will mean we'll be getting minor fixes when we non-XBOX people get it.

This, EXACTLY! I think the 30 day wait will be a big benefit for the rest of us!

In the grand scheme of things, one month is really not all that long. The only thing I'd be worried about is inadvertantly seeing spoilers during that month. I may consider staying away from the forum for that time period.

I guess I'll just have to be satisfied with the hundreds of mods that have already been developed for PC

And it was mighty kind of Microsoft to let Beth beta test the DLC on its XBOX users first before they release it to the rest of us.

MS pays bethesda to beta test their DLC's so the PS3 and PC crowd get a quality release. I see no issue.

I'm a PS3 player, not encountered a single bug yet (aside from raining mammoths.) and I really don't mind if I get the DLC later so I can have a bug free experience (If I don't jinx myself before then)
