Who was your hardest video game boss?

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 4:58 am

Malak from KotOR. I didn't have any of the abilities that could destroy his health recharge things, so I had no way of preventing him from reversing all of the damage I could do to him multiple times. i actually had to start over from a much earlier save and replay the game (leveling my character a lot better), I was dying so much.
It's been ages sicne I played, but I thought every main character at least had Lightsaber Throw? That works against the Jedi tanks.

Mecha Dragon - First you must run from him across an extremely large pit with very small platforms (you miss a jump, you die, you take too long to jump, you die). It was fairly easy to kill him one I got to the battle proper

Yeah the fight against Mecha Dragon was just cheap. Not only did you have to dodge his projectiles, you were also on vanishing platforms, plus one hit could knock you off to your doom. Those games were called Nintendo Hard for a reason.

Dragon Age 2's High Dragon. I can't remember ever having so much trouble with a boss in a game before.

Ah yes, another one. Not only was he grossly overpowered, but the minions he kept spawning every once in a while, during which he used stand-off tactics to fireball your mage/rogue to death made this fight just a case of the good old cheating computer.

My personal hardest was Persona 3's Natural Dancer. He repels physical attacks, isn't weak to any element, and can charm the entire party. On top of that, he can hit everyone with the strongest Wind attack in the game, taking 2/3 off most of the character's HP. Mind you, this in a game where you can only control your main character, and the game is over if the main character dies. It's crazy.

I can't think of anything except Tiamat from Darksiders. But then again, I know many people have beaten her easily.

Man I love that game! but yeah I had a bit of trouble with her, but not too bad.

When i think about it i can't really come up with much, Drek in ratchet and clank never actually defeated him, I got stuck quite a lot in the Jak games, but then that was years ago when I wasn't all that good at gaming.

Yeah, he was murder. Tougher than any boss in the series since. Still, i beated him, more than once i think. Also if you played new game+ and got the RYNO he went down really easyly.

Also, the ultimate super boss of Star Ocean 3, Freya. Her Ether Strike gives me nightmares even today :cold: Still, i managed to beat her silly, and have the battle trophy to prove that

I should replay Star Ocean 4 some time and see what sort of super bosses it has in store. I remember i couldn't even survive the monsters of the first floor of the post MQ dungeon :bolt:

Gyorg from Majora's Mask. The combination of being in the water (the controls were terrible), having limited visibility, a limited magic supply (which was the only way to hurt him in the water), and having to swap between Zora and regular frequently made the boss fight very difficult and frustrating.

I only beat him once or twice and only tried again after getting the Fierce Deity Mask.

Half-Life's final boss. Well, not so much hardest more of I didn't know how to kill it so I shot it constantly for an hour or two :P

Here'a video I found on defeating the final boss on HL. There's three targets you have to shoot and destroy then the boss fires portals (sorry they they don't send you to Apiture) at you I think you can avoid then, but keep bouncing on the pods on the gorund to get above the boss and when it's head opens up, hit it with the Ghostbuster (The Gluon Gun was it?) type weapon.

Dural from Virtua fighter 2, thought I was doing great until then.

Lost Odyssey, the Immortal one. Maybe jut lack of grinding.

And I really hate to admit it, but Fatty Roswell from Earthworm Jim 3d. How sad is that.

Ming Xiao from Vampire: the Masquerade - Bloodlines. If you use guns and/or the Flamethrower, she's not so bad. But if all you got are melee weapons, ugh, good luck.

You're not kidding. V:TM - Bloodlines is easily in my top ten favorite games of all time, and that fight was so frustrating I almost gave up on the game before the end. I was amazed when I came back on a second playthrough with a ranged character and shredded her with minimal stress. Awesome looking creature, though.

On the vampire front, Dracula in Castlevania III has to be one of the worst. He's difficult to get to, he has three very challenging forms, and if you die to have to replay the whole final level again. Then there's Ninja Gaiden, but I think I saw the final boss for a total of about 6 seconds before dying. Those old games were brutal.

Heh, yeah, Ming-Xiao was an absolute horror for melee-oriented characters. My gunslinging Brujah punkette just blasted her from a distance.

Also Miguel from Chrono Cross.

This guy was a major pain. I beat him the second time I faced him but sheesh. By this point in the game two of your characters are dark elemental, so what's he do? He strikes a character with weakness to light, increases his magic power and uses the strongest light magic against them. 1 hit kill. The first time I lost I thought it was a storyline thing(Like Lavos in CT) given how difficult the fight was.

My contribution is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZi9gZ3jE-Y&feature=player_detailpage#t=60s from The Lone Ranger on the NES. The game was awesome. One of the best licensed adaptations of a tv series I've ever seen.(But it was made by Konami so it makes sense) But holy hell are these guys a pain in the :spottedowl: They both have machine guns. Both on opposite sides of the screen, and both firing at different times making it nearly impossible to score a hit on either one of them. And they take forever to go down. How they got handheld machine guns in the wild west, I don't know. Not to mention the last boss has a http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtTFQ7bSSHU with spikes, a gun turret, conveyer belts, and dangerous steam all complete with another mounted machine gun manned by Butch Cavendish himself(Who is also more acrobatic than a ninja and dodges your bullets).

Gyorg has the honour of being the only Zelda boss (that I've fought) that has ever killed me. (Ganondorf in OoT technically killed me once, but I had a fairy.)

Also Miguel from Chrono Cross.

He's easy if you live long enough to cast Diminish but Dario though, good grief, that guy had GOD MODE.

My top 5 hardest bosses would have to be:

(in no particular order)

The Shadow Queen - Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
Yunalesca - Final Fantasy X
The Himuro Family Master - Fatal Frame (mostly hard because I was [censored]ting-myself-scared)
Fahook - Dead to Rights (xbox version cause ps2 one got dumbed down for the game being "too hard")
The Dark Queen - Battletoads

I had totally forgotten how hard this boss was. Wow.

Yunalesca - Final Fantasy X

I never had a problem with her, in fact by the time I got to her I had Yuna's "limit break" and had her summoned Bahamut and I used his megaflair twice...she never stood a chance.

I just don't think I grinded enough before reaching that point in the game. Also I think I chose odd directions to go in the skill set so I didn't have everything I should have. I could always get to the third form but never past it

Most frustrating? Sephiroth in KH 1 and 2. I was 10 and lost several controllers to him.

Most difficult? Emerald Weapon in FF VII, I only beat him by using the item cloning exploit. Who needs to heal when you have 99 max elexirs?

I just remembered Branka in Dragon Age Origins I could take out the golems no problemo but she kicked my ass every time. She was the reason I quit playing that game again lol.

KOTOR 2 Darth Treya- My character svcked the first time I got to this point and I died almost ten time before I found a cheating method.

I don't really remember having too much problems with her, paralysis and freezing are your friends against any warrior. The most difficult boss from that game (no-DLC) I'd say is Gaxkang. He murdered me... :brokencomputer: ...many times, but then I got the brilliance that is Mana Clash.
