Saren? Just bring a biotic squadmate along and have them use lift or singularity, then pinata him. Rinse repeat. Warp helps too.

It's actually a pretty easy fight, mostly because of how OP biotics are in that game.

Smithy from Super Mario RPG
Spoiler
I never owned SMRPG as a kid, but I'd rent it from the video store on the weekends constantly. I'm sure we spent way more money renting it than we would have just buying the damn game, but that's what happened. It took me several weekends of battling Smithy before I managed to defeat him. SMRPG was also my first RPG of this style, so I wasn't very good at it and I didn't really understand how to grind or level efficiently, so it was a lot harder for me than it is now.

I never thought Smithy was hard, as long as you had Mario with the lazy shell weapon, Peach with the lazy shell armor and your other strongest attacker it was just a long boss battle.

The Occupation of Arteria Carpals on hard from Armored Core: For Answer was the hardest thing I have ever done, it literally took my over a year of on and off playing to never beat... I still haven't beaten it ;-;

Well, yeah, if you had the pure dumb luck of stumbling onto the Lazy Shell armor and weapon back in the day without a guide or internet. The point was I was not good at the game, so Smithy was a force to be reckoned with. Today, SMRPG is one of the easiest RPGs I can think of. As a kid, it was beastly hard.

Dragon Age 2's High Dragon. I can't remember ever having so much trouble with a boss in a game before.

Radec in Killzone 2 on Elite is up there too, though.

The Elite 4 - Pokemon
Angeal - FFVII: Crisis Core
Ansem - KH

I love JRPGs but JRPGs don't love me. :(

Edit: I remember taking a while to beat Illidan from WoW too, but that's not "my" enemy as much as the entire team's enemy.

One of the bosses in Devil May Cry.

Also, in Devil May Cry 2, you come to a part where you have to fight all the bosses again after each other (actually you can just beat 3 in a certain sequence to progress, but I didn't know this), and it felt really good that other bosses which took me over an hour and countless restarts to beat, now I beat them in 2-3 mins in one go. MAD SKILLZ.

I have something to add to my answer.
I've heard that RAAM in Gears of War is hugely difficult for a lot of people, but I remember beating him with my brother on Insane on our first try whereas the Tempest in Gears of War 3 took us at least 5 tries on Normal. I don't think we're as good as we used to be.

This one boss from GUNVALKYRIE.. I don't even remember his name, but [censored] did he piss me off. You have to be extremely precise when you jump over him and shooting his weak spot, as even the slightest miscalculation could lead to you getting hit when you land on the other side. Oh, sure, you'll hit it as well but the amount of damage dealt to you makes such a tactic suicidal. I must have restarted the game thirty times before I beat the damn thing. Only to get horrendously stuck on a later level, which from what I've learned is about the point where most of the people who play that game can no longer proceed. Oh Naglfar's Pit.. Why u no easy to beat?! :shakehead:
Though from what I've heard the boss in that level is even harder than the one that gave me so much trouble, so it's probably for the best.. I would have broken my controller otherwise.. Though talking about the game and listing to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_hS0BNheq8 on youtube make me wish I still had a working Xbox. I really want to play the game again.

Romeo Guildenstern...the last boss of Vagrant Story. He's the only boss in 300+ RPGs I've played, where I had to cheat to win.. as there is ONLY one way to beat him and if you fail the timing, you die automatically. This is also the longest battle I ever had, and the first last boss, and first boss of all that I couldn't beat on the first try.

Awful lot of Ansem in this thread. Ya pansies. :P

Not that I'm not much better, seeing as Riku's second form in Hallow Bastion stomped me into the ground like three times before I beat him. Only boss in Kingdom Hearts that's made my thumbs sore. A few in Re: Chain of Memories took a couple tries too, but that was mostly because my deck was crap and I couldn't come up with any decent sleights to counter the boss's.

My 13-year-old self just couldn't get past the final boss on Jak 3. There were these little dots you had to shoot on these mechanical legs that wouldn't stand freaking still so I could never get the last dot, it was just too frustrating. :brokencomputer:

Better still, just swap out all your ammo upgrades for the highest-levelled proton rounds you possibly can. From what I found, so long as you keep moving Saren's strongest card is his shields, and the shield bypass on the rounds will virtually eliminate that advantage. All in all, I found Saren to be one of the easier bosses I've had to face.

But here are some I absolutely hate (some spoilers):

  • Duriel from Diablo II (I agree with a previous poster that they are a cheap foe...)
  • Uldred from Dragon Age: Origins (it seems the only way to survive is by cheaply running in circles as your comrades fire arrows...and that's *before* factoring in the regeneration)
  • All but the last of the bosses from Deus Ex: Human Revolution (why must I be forced to fight? Why are these guys apparently immune to live bullets/takedowns?)
  • El Diablo from Desperadoes (I thought this was a strategy game?!)
  • The Mithalan God, from Aquaria (even when you work out the winning strategy, it isn't that easy to pull off)

Gyorg has the honour of being the only Zelda boss (that I've fought) that has ever killed me. (Ganondorf in OoT technically killed me once, but I had a fairy.)

Also Miguel from Chrono Cross.

Been a while, but I think I remember fire resist turned the High Dragon into ezmode. How about Xebenkeck? Without kiting to the first room.

Ornstein and Smaugh from Dark Souls.

It drove me to such anger and frustration that I did what I have never before done in my life. I broke the disc.

Benezia from Mass Effect. I had to change the difficulty setting to easy and just barely managed to defeat her.
