Who was your hardest video game boss?

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 2:47 pm

I had all of them.

I don't play GW anymore, though.

Ah, I mentioned Nightfall because of the Gates of Madness mission. Look it up if you like..and never did it.

The last boss on MGS4 on the hardest setting available on the first playthrough . . . I never did complete that game :(.

Also the dark Aeon things in FFX were pretty hard.

Yeah, Ocelot is a giant cheap ass. The key is to use chokes and great timing. And it's always the Liquid/Ocelot form that always gets me, the rest aren't so bad.

Funnily enough, I never lost to the Ocelot form, but it may be due to how much I really liked MSG3.

Malak from KotOR. I didn't have any of the abilities that could destroy his health recharge things, so I had no way of preventing him from reversing all of the damage I could do to him multiple times. i actually had to start over from a much earlier save and replay the game (leveling my character a lot better), I was dying so much.

I've been there too on one playthrough, but I managed to finish him by running away and covering the entire room with all the mines I had forgotten to sell before heading for the Starforge :P.

The final boss in Prototype though... Gods dammit. I've beaten him on two playthroughs, but the last time I played Prototype I just couldn't do it. I tried for over hour straight and then gave up, haven't touched the game since.

Been a while, but I think I remember fire resist turned the High Dragon into ezmode. How about Xebenkeck? Without kiting to the first room.

I completely forgot about Xebenkeck. I didn't have quite as much trouble with her, as it took me several days worth of tries to kill the High Dragon. But running back to the first room and using the traps to my advantage is exactly what I did with Xebenkeck. :P

EDIT: And yeah, enchanting my equipment with resist fire is what I ended up doing. It didn't make the fight easy, but it certainly helped.

Star Ocean: The Last Hope. I spent over an hour killing him. I got 45 minutes in the first time and lost. An hour the second time and my game froze. The last time was about 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Anyone remember Shiro from Guild Wars: Factions?

:cryvaultboy:

I loved Shiro because I could beat him so easy. I think it was because I was a Warrior, so I had access to a LOT of interrupt and de-stance skills that shut him down pretty good. Used to like helping people against him.

Actually now that I think of it none of the Guild Wars bosses were THAT bad. Not even The Great Destroyer (did look up hero builds to help on that). Although I used the same Warrior for every single campaign...nobody seems to play Warriors anymore.

That's why I got so mad at Ornstein and Smaugh to be honest. I'm usually GOOD at the boss fights. Hell even when I was little I'd let my friend play the normal parts and then he'd pass the controller to me to deal with the bosses.

Oh, I remember Sephiroth. Yeah, that guy was tough. Been too long since I did it, can't remember how many tries it took me or how long.

I never really played Kingdom Hearts, but I remember Sephiroth being pretty difficult in FFVII. Of course, that was years ago.

Smithy from Super Mario RPG
Spoiler
I never owned SMRPG as a kid, but I'd rent it from the video store on the weekends constantly. I'm sure we spent way more money renting it than we would have just buying the damn game, but that's what happened. It took me several weekends of battling Smithy before I managed to defeat him. SMRPG was also my first RPG of this style, so I wasn't very good at it and I didn't really understand how to grind or level efficiently, so it was a lot harder for me than it is now.

I detested Smithy. SMRPG was one of my favorite games as a kid and I thought it was fairly easy, but Smithy was a pain. I recall Johnny (the shark captain) giving me problems as a child, but I beat him pretty easily when I replayed the game about a year ago.

Eh, once you figure out what to do, he becomes quite easy. However, I had difficulty with that electric guy in MSG3 when there's a timer, especially when you're just trying to make him pass out. In addition, Ocelot in MSG4 was difficult for the first...10 tries. The Fury was more [censored] annoying than anything, and the Fear can be a [censored], unless you figure out a certain weakness of his and exploit it.

I had exactly 100 game overs (and countless alerts) when I played MGS3 on its most difficult setting. The Volgin fight contributed to my dying a lot.

Gates of Madness lived up to its name, that's for sure!

Shiro (Both Factions and Gates of Madness) was the only challenging one.

The Lich is a wuss.

Abaddon was a joke. (He was a god, for goodness sakes!!!!)

The Great Destroyer was a even bigger joke.

The CS 1.6 engine. It hasn't aged well for multiplayer.

It's not a good idea to go toe-to-toe with him in combat. It's a lot better (and easier) to take the Science route, and hack into the satellite laser. He'll go down quite easily then.

I guess Sledge from Borderlands  I had to have my friend, who was lvl 42, help me out, so it wasn't all that hard.

Of course, the whole damn game's hard. Especially when you get to your second playthrough. I can only play with my other friend (who is the exact same level as me, 41) because the enemies are so numerous and overpowering.
But I can't say it's not fun, there's a lot more tactics involved, and that's made a lot harder for me and my friend because we are the same class and leveled our skills nearly identically.

Methinks thou doth protest too much! Gamers haven't aged well since 1.6. And since I was thinking to myself, I don't really play games with bosses, and Dagoth Ur was painfully easy, I'm going to answer that I play Condition Zero, by myself, even in recent years I have. I never use for teammates, and play on normal/hard. It can get ridiculously hard, when there are 7 or 8 bad guys who never get flashed because the CZ engine struggled a bit. Particularly bad 'bosses'/maps I found, are Militia, Torn, and a few other bad maps that never made it to Source.

General Borderlands tips:
The easiest way is to just level yourself one or two levels above the mission and make sure you know what your enemies weaknesses are. The most useful gun in the game in my opinion is a Hellfire, I was still using my level 22 version in playthrough 2. Most Eridian weapons soon become over-rated compared to some of the Unique and Legendary weapons you will get later on and in playthrough 2 Legendary weapons will become a lot more plentiful. I did this with a Siren and it felt almost easy, my Phasewalk is so leveled up it almost feels like cheating to use it. I am now at roughly level 60 on playthrough 2.5 and am about to start my second playthrough of the DLCs.

I haven't gone after Crawmerax yet, but the most difficult boss in Borderlands I've found was Mothrakk. Well difficult is the wrong word, freakin' annoying is far more accurate.

The Archdemon from DA:O. Using the trebuchets would make too easy so I tried going at it with just sword and shield. That didnt end well...at all. :brokencomputer:

That guy was quite a pain in the [censored]

Those Adamantoise from FFXIII are a nightmare to defeat, I still can't do it, retrying tonight though.
Also Barthandelus, Orphan 1st form and 2nd form were pains until I found a good combo to counter attack them with, managed to do it in 1:25 minutes for 5 gold stars, achievement and Lightnings GamerPicture last night :D
Also Alexia Ashford, Morpheus D. Duvall and Nemesis from the Resident Evil games.
