Whtas happening to Uesp?

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 6:55 pm

1) wikia is useless on iphone due to stupid ad bar
2) scared to leave wikia open in browser while i play - all those flash ads might hurt framerate in game; i use alt-tab to minimize game to look up stuff - thank god game doesn't crash while i do that
3) wikia is incomplete too
4) uesp has enough info espec on bugs, glitches
5) sometimes having "thin" info helps me enjoy the game and find out stuff myself

Out of curiosity, has either wiki gotten around to figuring out the whole range of Skyforge Steel's improvements? I know there's been argument over whether it levels with your character, so I figured having a PC user go in and put up the ranges would be pretty helpful. I made a post in the wiki asking them to do it, they told me to use the Console commands and now don't let me post, claiming "vandalism" (I don't see how asking a question in the talk page is vadalism, though...).

Not nice to be yelled at for asking questions, so... yeah, I'm sticking with UESP. Still, it'd be nice to know for certain how Skyforge Steel supposedly improves...

Skyforge Steel does the same damage as elven weapons. Anytime someone claims that Skyforge Steel levels with the player, I tell them to go get an elven weapon and compare it to the Skyforge Steel one with the same level of improvement. I never hear from them again. I suspect the confusion stems from the displayed weapon damage taking your skill and perks into account.

UESP is good for everything except for Items. TES wikia has description of every item in detail.

UESP just had a dated look, other then that I enjoy reading it. It even has NPC classes in Morrowind which I don't believe the Wikia has. The actual articles are also much more condensed and informative

I tend to cross reference info from one site with the other. Both have their uses, and sometimes some of the info from one place has been copy-pasted to the other.

I prefer the Wiki because it is more modern, or has a more modern look and feel. I use both of course and hold no alegience to one or the other, lol.
More modern look and feel, perhaps, but UESP has far more detailed item information.

UESP is good for everything except for Items. TES wikia has description of every item in detail.
Ive never NOT found the information i was looking for on UESP. TES wiki has let me down on so many occasions. Main thing being item IDs.

I use the Elder Scrolls Wiki, I could care less what came out first. ESW just looks better imo

UESP is better on lots of accounts, the layout is better and everything is arranged pretty well, so it doesn't take long to find anything. Although the imperial library is usually where I go for anything to do with lore

Choices, choices. As long as I don't have to deal with snobbish UESP administration - UESP wiki wins hands down.

Put it this way, if I ever want to find anything out about Skyrim, I go to google and type "UESP Skyrim xxxxxxx"

Where "xxxxxx" is what I'm after. :)

UESP information is more reliable. I still go that even if other sites have higher positions in the search engine

UESP also has a better colour scheme and doesn't post bogus censorship messages.

I always go to UESP first. It's not the top result in searches because Wikia most likely PAYS for top spot. But UESP is the site I TRUST.

Elder Scrolls wiki grabbed top spot in the google search...
The base site, wikia.com, is pretty high on google as they have wiki's for a multitude of games, including Fallout. I usually go to uesp first when it has to do with TES.

Uesp has commands to fix quest bugs, BaseID to spawn NPC wars and even tips on the enchant/smith/alchemy synergy.

The other wiki has ... a mobile version. Exactly the thing for a console player to look up the solution to his current quest on his smart phone.

UESP is where I go, and where I've been going since 2001 when my Morrowind made me a hardcoe gamer and fan of RPG.

I think the pages for Skyrim have plenty of information on it. In fact sometimes they have more information than the game itself provides. It seems some people who are working on those pages try to add more incentive to certain quests than Bethesda put efford in them.

For example they try to make fetch quests more interesting than they actually are, and they sometimes even succeed. Goes to show how much better Skyrim would have been with proper quest description.

I'm a console player and the mobile version from that other wiki doesn't work. It doesn't allow you to expand articles so you only see the headers of each segment but you can't access the content (on windows phone 7).

Besides I prefer to read whole pages on my Smartphone. Much more easy to scroll through and find the section you need. Than all you need to do is turn the phone 90 degrees to have the text big enough to read it. So even for mobile viewing, UESP wins IMO.

I've always used the UESP for about as long as I've been playing Elder Scrolls games. It helps me with bugs and quests and has never failed me there, even with Skyrim. I see no need to switch over. Also, I think it looks nicer than the ESW.

I like and use them both for gameplay information. Imperial Library is still and always will be king of lore.

I too am astounded that the regular wiki shows up above UESP on google. The latter has served the series faithfully for years and never let me down, and is amazingly polished. This new thing with the generic blue/darkgray scheme riddled with ads and unorganized clutter is just pointless.

TES wiki looks like it has been moderated by children. UESP is much better.
