UESP is the way forward. Just went on the other one and it isnt very user friendly. Also its way too dark.

I remember that good old greyish 90's style site.

When I started playing Morrowind they were in the process of transfering to the wiki format, so I got to use the old ssite for a while.

I have some entires in it, related to Daggerfall moding. :)

I use both. the wiki for lore. The UESP for anything game related. I prefer the look and speed of UESP though. The wiki is dark and slow.

I don't search for wiki, I just search for what I want in google, for example "Skyrim Races", "Morrowind Classes" etc and UESP comes up top everytime

The wiki is full of crap and useless articles which make it seem like it has a lot of information. It's also a pain to navigate - why in the world do they send me to a CATEGORY menu which lists EVERY POSSIBLE ENCHANTMENT for EVERY SINGLE ARMOR? It's just clutter!
The only time I go there is when I want to see a picture of an armor which isn't on the UESP - and I'm more likely to just use coc qasmoke to look at it ingame. It's just a mess and absolutely none of the editors there have any clue about wikis.

Also this one time I removed a random loot location from some item and it got reverted "because it was found there so that's a place where you can look".
The location was a dungeon chest, with different items every run. Idiots.

I'm new to the series so the first one i've used is IGN.. (I really regretted using it!!!) Then occasionally I go to the Wiki.. Then when I finally found out about UESP, I stuck with it ever since, there is much more information there and all the lore I needed to know to play this game to its fullest. (never looked back to IGN or wiki)

I had been using the wiki site when I was playing Dragon Age: Origins and DA2, so naturally I checked for their Skyrim site. I didn't know there was a difference between that and the UESP, or what UESP meant.

Since everyone here seems to like the UESP, I'll have to give it a try.

When I need to look up for something, I go both, each has its own merit in terms of scope of contents, one that is lacking in something can be found in the other.

Unofficial Elder Scrolls Portal if I remember correctly.

On the wiki, you can just start to type something and the closest matches come up - this is why I started liking that site....was it Anthor or Anathor? :-)

You sure you guys don't like the UESP site for nostalgic reasons?

I also just use the search engine on the wiki site. The layout doesn't bother me, as I usually go there for a specific quest or item and just type in what I'm looking for.

I try to just use UESP whenever possible, way better layout and information. Plus, it doesn't throw me into Wiki Mobile when I'm searching on my IPod, mobile wikis are always really annoying to get information from.

Don't remember which site I found first, but having been with TES less than a year, I quickly learned that UESP was much easier to use and find info from.

Search engines such as google rank websites based on how many other sites link to them. The mechanic is really easy to abuse. Hence why UESP and this forum rank lower than relatively new imitation sites (wikis have high rank as 10000 other wikis instant link to them). The entire internet is becoming a cesspit of duplicated content basically because the search engines earn money from advertising and hence want as much competition as possible. It's also why they ran such a massive campaign recently to block the proposed SOPA and PIPA bills; piracy and copyright infringement earn them money, though they spin it as them defending free speech. Free speech in this context basically equals the freedom to duplicate another website and out-rank it in the search engines for its own content.

UESP probably won't do it, but if they were a commercial website they would now be forced to pay google for advertising in order to recover their market share from the wiki. Genius on Googles part really.

UESP:

Much more lore-friendly
No annoying ads about the other unrelated wikis (well there are ads, but you know what I mean)
A very easy to the eyes look (for any designers out there, white on total black is NOT pleasing to the eyes. And fyi I switched to black on white forum skin)
Just the good-ol info source

Elderscrolls Wiki:

Discussions about the quest happens within the page itself (much easier to find)
Sometimes, has info that UESP does not have

I automatically put "UESP" before anything when I google, so I don't know about elderscrolls wiki being at number one. But I can't deny it's use from time to time

Although I prefer UESP anyday. Primarily because of the color

I've read utter rubbish on the wikia. It's not nearly as good as uesp. Shame wikia gets more hits.

Like Morrowind?

UESP almost always has the information I'm looking for, it's much easier to navigate than wikia and looks neat (wikia is just so messy and cluttered...). The only advantage that wikia has over UESP are pictures - useful when I happen to need them, but it's not very often.

Uesp has commands to fix quest bugs, BaseID to spawn NPC wars and even tips on the enchant/smith/alchemy synergy.

The other wiki has ... a mobile version. Exactly the thing for a console player to look up the solution to his current quest on his smart phone.

Don't you know that most of us console players are not technically saavy enough to know how to use a smartphone? That's why we play on consoles.

I can say this of course because I am a console player (both Xbox and PS3) and the only reason I don't play on a PC is because I am terrible with a keyboard and it would give me a headache to try to figure out how to get a controller to interface properly with a PC. My fiancee's iphone just gives me headaches to look at, I cannot imagine trying to use a smartphone to look up something on the internet. I miss the days when a phone was actually used to call people.

But yeah, I prefer UESP to the wikia by a long shot. The UESP seems much more reliable and overall more informative. Sometimes I will check the wikia on a particular subject after reading the UESP if I want a more complete answer.

I've been using the UESP since I played Morrowind and I don't see that changing soon. I do use the Elder Scrolls Wiki from time to time, but I find the UESP one far more informative and reliable.

I use a combination of both. Wikia has the advantage of three related pages at the bottom (useful for just browsing around), while UESP usually has more in-depth articles, especially concerning lore and skills.

UESP continues to be the best source for TES info despite the search engine preference for the wiki. Since I can remember
