Somebody mentioned that the Nords and other residents of Markath still sleep in the ancient stone Dwemer beds (there are some in the inn and in Understone Keep, for instance).

If they are big enough for other races to sleep in and not go looking for a more suitable substitute, then either the Dwemer were about the same size as the other races or else they deliberately and consistently made beds that were oversized for members of their own race.

Unless they just liked bigger beds so they could fit more Dwemer in them, because there ain't no party like a Deep Elf party, amirite or amirite?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the Dwemer supposed to be dwarves?

Yes, but not "dwarves" in the Tolkien sense, where Dwarves and Elves are unrelated species. Dwemer were Elves, just like Altmer, Bosmer, etc. However the current debate seems to be over whether or not they were called dwarves because they really were unusually small compared to most other races, or if some race of above average size (for instance, giants) called them that because the Dwemer were small in comparison to the larger people themselves.

Why does everyone keep saying giants can't talk. They talk all the time. We just can't understand what they're saying.

I remember reading that the Dwemer were named "Dwarves" by ancient Giants, due to their tiny relative size, what interest me more is that Giants used to talk

Yep. That and, if the giants called them Dwarves, then they must have had-known of some race that was called Dwarves who were small. So who were the dwarves before the Dwemer.

But they are ~1.7 m tall, not 1.1 m tall.
We don't use them metric numbers. We use 'Murican units of measurement... cuz this is 'Murica.

Because the word "Dwarf" and it's derivative "Dwarves" can apply to any creature that is smaller the norm, not just a small humanoid. There needn't have been a race of small humanoids called Dwarves for the Giants to use the word.

I like the theory of how the Dwemer were 'normal' sized elves, and the rest of the mer grew taller ;)

The Dwemer are not tiny. They are normal sized elves.
Between Bosmer and Altmer you have some signficant height differences.

So do the people of Markarth, because they are too stupid to make their own beds and must use the Dwemer stone slabs.

Larry the Mattress guy would make a killing in Markarth.

1. Sit on a dwemer chair and see in 3rd person that your character look normally sitted and the chair is not that small. I think we got the feeling the dwemers chairs are shorts because there is no armrest and the back is very short.

2. There is a great deal of Nordic chairs that are as smalls as the dwemers chairs. Look in the whiterun's Inn, in the balcony above the room, there is at least two of these. They are very short.

Dwemer never sat down. They made those chairs to seat their stuffed animals.

which elves? It is only Altmer who are tall. They may claim to be pure but my guess is they are freaks on nature that have grown overly tall. Bosmer and Dunmer are the purer height. Orsimer are stocky but again aren't tall. Falmer again aren't tall.

The Dwemer ghosts in Morrowind weren't large. They were again on the smaller size

Sheesh... "normal" sized elves? So, you're saying that the Bosmer aren't "normal"? Well, I guess you can... there's probably no P.C. Thought Police in Skyrim. Say what you like.

Did they have a new guy working on those who didn't get the memo about them being outrageously tall and lanky? Anyone else notice this?

Even though they are just as tall as other Mer, apparently they have tiny cheeks...

I always just thought the chairs were the metal frame remnants of chairs that were once upholstered. Same with the stone beds. Dwemer are alien enough to be capable of anything though.
I remembered Dahrk Mezalf and Radac to be about my height (I play a Dunmer).

I'd guess their doors are tall because of centurions.

I like this explanation.

Cause the Dwemer are Dwarves.

They aren't dwarves, they were just called dwarves by giants because they were tiny compared to them. Dwemer are normal size.

No, lore says the Dwemer were the same size as other elves, namely the Dunmer...
