Why can`t I get someone to Re-enchant enchanted Weapons?

Post » Wed Jun 20, 2012 12:16 pm

While we're on enchanting, any way to know which enchantments you already know without actually having to bend over the enchanting table? I couldn't fin anything in the menu. I sometimes forget which ones I know and then I'm left pondering if I should sell a weapon/ring/apparel or keep it for disenchanting.

I know it's nothing major, but it's just a bit annoying having to run to a table before going back to a merchant and selling anything.

Ah, the joys of pen and paper. Works for alchemy too. :whistling:

I don't understand this thread.....

Blade, so what you are saying, you refuse to even touch a soul gem that is filled by an enchanter to automatically recharge your warrior weapon?

I am a roleplayer as well, and restrict my characters as well. Then you shouldn't even be using enchanted weapons at all, because it contains magicka.

All you do is touch the gem to the weapon, and it's done. Roleplay the fact that the mage you bought the gem from told you to just touch the gem to the weapon.....

I realize this was removed, but ..........it's still there in a different way.

So, carry a charged soul gem.

Although, I do see your point........to a degree. I also hate my mage carrying lockpicks......cuz it just aint right for obvious "roleplay" reasons, without a spell ......(but let's not go down that road)

So, I GUESS I DO UNDERSTAND THIS THREAD.....HAHAHAH

I love how people are trying to tell me how to roleplay MY character. it`s NOT happening. If I ever roleplay a character by somebody else`s instruction, I`ll chuck Skyrim in the bin.

Some of you understand, but some of you obviously don`t read or comprehend. You skip-read then fill in the gaps with your own version of what I said and mean. I`ll explain one more time....

My character does not trust magic. In fact he hates it. He don`t trust wizards or Sorcerers either becaus ethey use magic.

Magic to my charcater is like Radiation in the modern world... A strange unexplained phenomenon that`s best left alone.

However, he`s bumped into so many strange and weird things, things he cannot defeat purely with the blade, things that are not of Man, that he is willing to make use of a magical item if it counters the magic or monster used against him.

And there`s no point saying in that civilised manner, "Well it`s all magic, so what?"

He follows the ways of his people and he`s developed a personal moral that it`s ok to use magically enchanted items, but not ok to go dabbling in fixing and making enchanted items.

Heck, just go read a few books of Robert E Howard`s Conan the Barbarian. but oh noes, reading a novel`s too much work, right?

And if you still don`t get it then I can`t be bothered explaining any further.

Anyway, the ability to have your items enchanted in other games was there, it should stil be allowable here for those of us who liked it.

Sheesh, you people.

I`ve been puzzling over this a while now and wondering if I`ve been missing something, so I didn`t want to whine too sonn about it. But now I think it`s time...

Right, I`m a warrior- I don`t Enchant. I never enchanted in Morrowind or Oblivion. I find enchanted weapons, use them until they run out of power, then go to an enchanter to pop the batteries back in.

I don`t care how they do it, as long as I pay `em and they do it.

But in hours of adventuring I`ve not found one person who can enchant my weapons back up. I end up either throwing them away or selling the weapon and waiting until I can grab the next ancient enchanted Ax hidden in some tomb.

Do you have to enchant everything yourself now- And how? I can`t enchant anything.

Why did they remove this? Why can`t I just pay them to do it? It was very useful for non-enchanters who wanted to use enchanted weapons.

Is this that `dumbing down` thing again?

Follow the loading screen adice. Use Soul Gems. You don't have to Trap Souls yourself - you'll find plenty 'filled' gems around the world, as loot - but use these to repower your enchanted weapons.

Go into your inventory, scroll down to the weapon in question, and you'll notice one of the options for that item is 'charge'. Providingyou have a gem to do the job it will recharge the weapon

I've resorted to that, yes. It's just that I have two different characters and so sometimes I got confused about which enchantments my characters knew. Now it's on paper. ;-)

Was just wondering if it was somewhere in a menu, like where you have all your spells in the magic menu.

I've given up on that, like i gave up with lockpicking. They, and speech that increases when you sell stuff, are unavoidable filler skills that are there just to allow you to level up faster.

yeah, i'm thinking the same with smithing. i'm not a [censored] blacksmith, why can't they do the job for me - and they're actually in the game, it's just that they act only as merchants and not as blacksmiths at all.

I understand what Blade watcher means entirely. It's not about it being inconvenient or more convenient or anything like that. It is about a pointless removal of something that people used. Most of you have said "Just use a Soul Gem, it's not like you have to cast a spell or anything to get them." But according to BOTH wiki pages (as well as from personal experience), using a Soul Gem raises your Enchanting Skill, albeit by a small amount dependent on Soul Gem size.

But that means leveling a magic skill, which is something that the OP doesn't want to do. And wasn't one of the big parts of character creation supposed to be do what you want with no being forced to do anything you don't want to? Kind of hard to do that when you are given the choice of using a Soul Gem (and raising Enchanting) or never using the same Enchanted weapon again. That definitely sounds like being forced to do something.

Personally I don't see a difference between a potion that heals your wounds and a gem that "heals" your sword...

Drinking a potion doesn't increase Alchemy. Using a Soul Gem increases Enchanting.

There are soul trap weapons that you will find in the game and also bound weapons with a couple of perks will also give you automatic soul trap when an enemy is killed. There is are 2 quests that will give you 2 soul gems that will never disappear once the soul in it has been used up and so you can fill them with unlimited souls. So all you need to do when your enchanted weapon runs dry is use these 2 soul gems and then use a soul trap weapon to charge the gems up again. No hassle and done in seconds.

You will need to "worship" Daedra for that... Which might be against the characters morale, and more importantly. Using that gem will still level enchanting.

Just because you are not a mage, doesn't mean you cannot use magic. These limitations are absurd and unrealistic.

It is not absurd if your character has a philosophical issue with using Magic but not utilizing it. I do agree that there should be an Enchanter to both make and re-charge weapons for those who choose not to dabble in the arcane.

Or, the Warrior could just be as dumb as a rock, "Duh, I swing my sword, I am a good warrior huh?" kind of mentality. They would not have the mental capacity to Enchant.

Just find/ buy soul gems with souls in them, then select the weapon and press charge ( you'll see a button for it, I dont know what it is on the platform you play). You dont have to 'enchant them back up'

Hope this helps
Is this action increasing your enchanting skills? If the answer is yes, then we have a problem. I think the OP wants a character that isn't railroaded into becoming master of everything just because he needs something done.

I pay people to change the batteries in my remote.

The mechanics of it are never explained, IIRC, so just think of it as rubbing the soul gem slowly up and down the shaft of your weapon. Even the most feckless barbarian could do that.

This. I play a sneak thief with bow/dual daggers both enchanted and I tell myself that even though I don't have the patience to learn enchanting I will at least put in the time to learn how to recharge an item from a court wizard! But it would be nice to pay someone to create an enchanted item for me for a large sum of gold! Just saying

Well then just find an enchanted weapon use it until it done and then do the same with the next one he finds. You get an enchanted weapon in nearly every chest once you get up to about level 30 anyway.

To the OP: I understand your role playing but was just wondering if you picked up books in the game. Some books increase your magic skills yet you don't know it when you pick it up (unless you consult the wiki beforehand). My point is unless you only used enchanted weapons all the time, your enchanting skill would increase very slowly. Recharging items doesn't increase the skill much at all. You could see it just like if you stumbled on a book in a dungeon that thought you a bit of magic.

But anyway, like you said, it's your charachter, not ours.

And the answer is a definite yes. It's the same way with Blacksmithing and to a lesser extent, Alchemy. If I have the gold, it just makes sense for me to be able to pay for a weapon to be crafted or upgraded. And the cost should be reduced if I happened across some of the materials that are needed to make it. And actually it would help to alleviate several "immersion" problems in the game.
  • Being forced to play in a way you don't want to: By making you choose between enchanting or never using the enchanted item after it runs out, the player is forced to play against how they want.
  • Realistic World: What kind of professional craftsman won't do a custom order for a large fee?
  • Additional Radiant Quests: Ever find it odd that you are never doing something strictly for your benefit? I would gladly go and round up a few pieces of Leather or a Grand Soul Gem (so additional fetch quests) if it means I get a discount on having a specialty item made.
  • Money Sink: Isn't that the complaint he have heard about every Bethesda game since Morrowind? That eventually you just have too much cash? It won't fix the problem, but it will certainly help alleviate it.

What's that silly thing most RP-ers say when the rest of us complain that something is breaking the immersion? Oh yeah, "Imagine it's not there"

Guess you could do the same. I mean, you're already pretending that you can't use magic when you perfectly can, so you can pretend your enchanting skill is not increasing...

Mongo like Glowing axe, but Mongo's Axe no longer Glow! Mongo have Glwoing Stone! Mongo Smash Stone with Axe! Mongo's Axe Glow again!

Who says a dumb as Rocks warriors can't recharge their gear.

I just dunno, having people do the enchantments for you kinda defeats the purpose of the enchanting skill, you can just buy enchanted weapons from the shops if you don't want to enchant.

You guys are missing his point. It's for the Role playing experience. Nords are afraid of magic, so if he is playing a typical nord warrior maybe he wants to hold onto that though. Guards in the game even talk about getting stuff enchanted for them by the court wizards, and the wizards them self talk about enchanting weapons for them. So it makes no sense why it is not included.

You mean the same way buying potions from an Alchemist defeats the Alchemy Skill?

Sure, you can buy the weapons, but what do you do when it runs out of charges if you don't know how to enchant? If charging a weapon did not increase the Enchanting skill, then it could be considered to be something that does not take skill to do.

I would rather say, that Skyrim requires you to do various things that cross class boundaries.

It is more true of Morrowind and Oblivion, that you could really do or not do anything you want, while classes merely created a tendency for certain actions to be favored or easier. In comparison, Skyrim with its perk trees, limited action options, and railroaded faction affiliations is much more restrictive.

Correct.
Its why Im already done with Skyrim while I played Morrowind for 6 months straight when I got it.
Its much more restricted, much more shallow and just has less game for your buck.

Im afraid that Bethesda has gone into a 'trimming the fat' mentality while failing to understand that it is the fat that creates the flavour and the gravy.
