Why do people prefer Zelda than Skyrim?

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 5:02 pm

not saying that graphics is the most important thing in the game but i can still find many people saying that zelda's graphics and gameplay > skyrim graphics and gameplay

Not sure how people could say it has better graphics, but gameplay I can definitely believe that Zelda is better. Skyrim's gameplay is incredibly shallow and clunky.

Just different tastes period. Different people like different things. Zelda is actually a fun series. ^_^

Zelda hasn't been fun since A Link to the Past.

The 3D Zeldas have been awrful......

....just my opinion.

Absolutely agree.
When Ocarina of Time first came out with all the glowing reviews, i thought i'd give it a try since i loved Link to the Past very much.
After playing it tho, i felt that OOT was very much more linear then its predecessors.

I feel that the Zelda series has lost its soul when it transitioned to 3D.

Best Zelda game ever is and will always be Link to the Past.

Nostalgia.

How many times must it be said?

Right because This is Skyrim Elder Scrolls 1, we are just starting the series and you know there is no nostalgia coloring peoples opinion of it.

Zelda is just a fun game has been since the original gold box. That isn't nostalgia there are plenty of games from the past that I think fell down in recent versions and I [censored]ed about it where appropriate, thing is Zelda kept its quality level high so why shouldn't i say it is good.

It's sad Nintendo never made another Zelda game with ALTTP's formula. When Zelda went 3D, that's when they started adding all the unnecessary cutscenes.

nostalgia = people who view recent a game positively based on previous positive experiences with the same series

Same reason as why so many people like Morrowind. Nostalgia.

nostalgia = people who view a recent game negatively based on previous positive experiences with the same series

I'm pretty sure some of you just use the word as a tool to try and invalidate the opinions of people you don't agree with. In fact, that's the only context in which I've seen it used on these boards.

Yes, nostalgia.
And the trademark overworld theme i suppose.

I may be the only one who feels this way, but having played zelda since the nes era,
i'd say the series has gone downhill ever since ocarina of time.

Best zelda ever is still Link to the Past.

Totally agree....

I'm honestly not sure which I prefer, although Zelda certainly has better dungeons and puzzles.

If I could only have one I'd pick Skyrim because of the sheer amount of replay value. But luckily I can have both, so no worries!

Also: It's the legend of Zelda and it's really rad.

While I love skyrim, zelda is a much older franchise than elder scrolls. That's why people like it.

Skyrim is great but has faults much like any other game. From a gameplay perspective Zelda is better. For open world and sandbox skyrim wins.

It just depends on how you look at both games.

Obviously if you post this here people are going to side with Skyrim and if you post it on a zelda forum they'd vote for zelda.

Better to ask this in a non biased forum.

The comparison between TES and Zelda is ridiculous. They are two different genres of games.
"Hey guys what's the best sport Baseball or Pro Surfing" lol? You cannot compare two things that are so vehemently different.

I loved Zelda but I think I've grown out of it. I have not played Twilight Princess or Skyward Sword, and have no urgent need to do so. Maybe I'm missing out, but at least the younger generation will still have Zelda to grow up to.

Zelda: Skyward Sword is a better game than people give it credit for.
It appears to be childish at a glance because of the art style...But just because a game doesn't revolve around image/graphics and gore doesn't make it a bad game.

While true that a lot of people vote for Zelda because of nostalgia. A lot of people also vote for Skyrim simply because they have never played Skyward Sword.

Why do some people prefer Yahtzee over Skyrim?

If you grew up with Nintendo and like campy video games with genuinely fun game design, then Zelda is a great game. If you are an 80 year old woman, Yahtzee is a great game. If you like open world Tolkein-esque RPGs with incredible amounts of detail and realism, then Skyrim is a great game.

Do you think it's strange that 80-year-old people are still playing Yahtzee?

But if you prefer depth and deep, engrossing moral decisions, or just plain dialogue options... and any shred of pen & paper RPG elements to help make your experience unique, I wouldn't recommend Skyrim.

Have you ever even played a Legend of Zelda game? You are arguing that all you fight in them is butterflies and rabbits...

It's not strange at all, probably because 40-year-olds don't have anything to prove.
