Why do you play on a console?

Post » Fri Jul 06, 2012 7:30 am

Im rather unsure where to put this, seeing as the hardware issues forum is split into Xbox and PS3, i can't really go posting in both. So i'll just "dump it here for the time being" and see where the mods put it :D

Anyway, to console users, why do you prefer playing on a TV rather than on a PC? Is it due to the larger screen or something? :P Or is it due to you being more accustomed to the controls?

Also, if you have nothing nice to say then please don't say it. This is probably a thread full of flame potential, but im just dying of curiosity over why people prefer the xbox or ps3. So don't go "whoopee svckers, my PC pwnZ all of youu".

If you do that, you'll get no pudding for dinner.

Because I don't have the moneys too build a computer that's able to run today's games and most of my real life friends and people I know play on the Xbox 360.

Because I'm forced to. I plan on getting away from it so I can actually play a proper mage one day. I'll fix up the magic system and get a good staff.

I personally have both pc and xbox i love pc for mods but when I want to play seriously I play xbox because all the mods really distract me and I can't really bring myself to actually do stuff on the pc also a tv and controller are nice but I love both for different reasons. I really recommend people try both before bashing one or the other.(oh and no I don't own some beast super pc it's a solid laptop that can run the game on medium with the texture pack that beth put out.)

i have the luck that i bought a very, very good pc 2 years ago. so nowadays it is not the best out there, but still very good.

nowadays i can't buy a new one, so i would be forced to play on a console, too. so it is obviously money for the most part.

some just dislike playing at the pc, but a good pc is very expensive and not everyone can afford one.

You can use your T.V. as a computer monitor. You just have to have the hook up too do it. I would, but my computer doesn't have the hook up  :(

When I bought my laptop, one that cannot play Skyrim, I got a deal with Microsoft for a new slim Xbox, free. So that's part of it.

Next, bigger screens are better.

Lastly, as I already have a console and own a decent 2011 laptop, I see no reason to slap down 1k+ for a gaming desktop. I mean, yes, there are mods and better graphics, but it's not worth the money just now.

Well my biggest reason is because of the fact my pc can′t handle Skyrim. And I can′t afford a new pc or xbox360.
I already had a ps3, so I went for that one. It works great, but I do wish I could make use of mods. D:

I don't own a PC anymore. I have a Mac. And we all know just how many games are available for a Mac. :)
So I have a console to play games.

If I had a powerful enough PC and the know how such as when to upgrade it, graphics cards, sound cards, shaders etc. I wouldn't even look at my 360 unless there were some console only exclusives that interested me. Also a good PC that could handle skyrim on at least medium settings is a bit out of my price range.

I play on the PC with a TV and controller. The larger screen is prime, for me and I saved money by not buying a monitor. I tried using the M&KB but the M killed my wrist after 30 min of gameplay and the smooth movement of dual anolog sticks is paramount to pressing keys. And the M&KB doesn't vibrate.

EDIT : I played on the console for years. It was for several reasons.
  • I was not CPU savvy. (still not but managed to build my own, thanks to videos)
  • The console is cheaper.
  • Smoother controls.
  • Bigger screen (47" @ 6' away)
  • Comfort of sitting back on the sofa.
  • Rumble Pack
  • Convince

The only downside in my opinion is that on console you don't have some things that are available for the PC. But for ease of use just put the game in and run it. PC you have to install and worry about drivers and other things. Console you don't have worry about secondary things like firewalls, virus protection or maintainance like a PC. The other benefit of a console you can resell your games on PC you can not. So there is pros and cons to both. Once you buy it for PC it become hard to sell it when you are done with it other than EBay or something.

I have a WII, PS3 and a PC, however I am a 24 year old man and thus can afford these things in comparison to lets be honest, the children which games are made for. I hardly think Skyrim, or any other TES game for that matter were distinctively made for grown men.

The only reason I have a PS3 is because of red dead redemption. The reason I have a WII is well, because it was gifted to me and I can't find it in my heart to throw away a nintendo console.
I would never choose to play on a console instead of a PC even if my PC was running the game at 25 fps, the only games I actually play on consoles are games that I am forced to play on consoles because they simply haven't been ported to PC and the occasional racing game.

Consoles are much easier to use and set up, nevermind the much lower cost.
Finally got money for a nice mid range laptop but will still use my xbox for exclusive titles and because most of my friends are consoles only.

On any other forum this thread would have exploded by now. Very nice to see that there is very little fanboyism here.

@Mohfuu

I wouldn't call Skyrim a children's game. I'm sure youngins play it, but it's not designed for them. Limb hacking, necrophilia, drugs, drinking...

This is kinda biased. Sorry to inform you the PC is great and is GOOD ENOUGH to run Skyrim even better in Graphics compared to a console.

This is a great post better than the one from jslayer66. Consoles are much easier to use and set up. My PC $1,248 and previous PC $800 so yes consoles are cheaper than PC and are easier to use not that a PC can not handle Skyrim.
