Why do you play on a console?

Post » Fri Jul 06, 2012 4:17 am

Yeah. That's why, even for pc games I own, I go for the things that rhyme with "whacks". The extra protections are just a pita, but I suppose it's a small price to pay.

Not sure what you mean here, but it's been a long day and its like a freaking 100 degrees out so I'm slow at the moment. I'm assuming its something you can't type here though.

Im rather unsure where to put this, seeing as the hardware issues forum is split into Xbox and PS3, i can't really go posting in both. So i'll just "dump it here for the time being" and see where the mods put it

Anyway, to console users, why do you prefer playing on a TV rather than on a PC? Is it due to the larger screen or something? Or is it due to you being more accustomed to the controls?

Also, if you have nothing nice to say then please don't say it. This is probably a thread full of flame potential, but im just dying of curiosity over why people prefer the xbox or ps3. So don't go "whoopee svckers, my PC pwnZ all of youu".

If you do that, you'll get no pudding for dinner.
No, my gaming PC had an accident when I was at work.( Wife said she accidently knocked it down when cleaning around it.) I have not had the cash to get a new one. So I went with a PS3 for now in tell I have the Cash to buy a new gaming PC. Also do to new tech coming out when that happened, I decided to wait in tell the prices on that tech comes down a little more so I can afford it.

I am used to the controls, AND THERE IS NO MAC VERSION!!!

To be more clear, I can't get the Computer version not only because it doesn't exist, but I wouldn't have access to it anyways. Been trying to get into computer gaming, but I just don't do it because it would be a waste of my XBOX360.
There are so may advantages to computer gaming, like console commands and mods, so I do wish it was this way for me

Wait, can't you also run Windows on your Mac, or put it into some sort of Windows emulation mode, since Macs are using Intel chips these days? There should be some method of running Skyrim on the Mac.

Regardless, just to help a Mac guy out (both my brothers are Jobs-worshipping Macolytes) do yourself a favor and look into the game Spore. I'll be up front about it - the game is terribly, terribly one-note and gets old fairly quickly, despite being five games in one. But you can waste many, many hours - I certainly have - building creatures and buildings and vehicles and spaceships and the like. The various editors are quite simple to learn, but are very fun to tinker with, and you can create some cool-looking stuff. If you ever wanted to get into 3D modeling but it just took more time than you had available, you can scratch that itch, to some degree, with Spore's editors.

BUt someone said you could get one for only $1,800

You should be able to play Skyrim on PC with a computer that costs considerably less than $1800. I merely brought up my computer because (1) although $1800 isn't dirt cheap, neither is it near the top-end of uber-gaming rigs (2) I've had it for three years and expect to use it for another three, and (3) it will run Skyrim on Ultra settings.

You have more affordable options available.

I paid like 1200 for mine and it can't even play diablo games, no HDMI port either, I'll admit it looked cool and that had a factor, like 2 months after one with same abilities and half the price came out, least I got decent speaker though?

The only games I like playing on my PC are MMOs. For everything else I prefer the PS3. I've been gaming on PlayStations since the PS1 came out and I like the controller, it's just what I'm comfortable with. Plus I can't play my PC when I'm lying down

3 or 4 years ago, I didn't read the specs as well as I should've, it was just so flashy, and the guy at best buy kept pushing me on an HP and I despise that company since my first laptop was a bust and was HP, so I went for a toshiba cuz I find them durable, but I went for flash and no bang D:

You can use Steam without being online. The only reason people hate Steam is because they don't like copy protection. After thirty years of PC games with minimal or no copy protection, gamers have come to view free games as their right, and they hate Steam simply because it's an effective means of copy protection.

No, I'm pretty sure I can't stand steam because of the buggy as [censored] offline mode and the fact that you have to save your credentials to begin with to use it, at which time, WTF is the point of credentials?

I paid for my game, actually. Go take your misguided rants on supposed entitlement mentalities somewhere else, I think the republican national convention website is -------->> way.

How is this an absurd price, when (1) it's much more than a game machine and (2) I've gotten three years' basically trouble-free use out of it and expect to get another three for sure? I bought a 360 in late 2008 and it died something like a year ago. Complete RROD. Had to buy a used one, and who knows how long that one will last. The 360 itself is on its last legs, and I'll be using this laptop well past when the next generation consoles come out.

I would agree $1800 would be absurd if all I could do on it was play games, like a console, but given that I use it for everything under the sun, internet, email, games, writing, tons of things, $1800 for something I expect to get six years use from isn't bad in the computer world. I could have spent $400 on a laptop, but it would probably be useless for much beyond email, writing, and some internet by now.

$1800 for any piece of machinery that's not a vehicle is absurd, games aren't that important.

Bought my XBOX in 2006 when I came back to the states from 4 years in Japan, had a deal at gamestop and got 3 games with it for the price of 1. I've never had a problem, same one going strong. I understand some people have had problems. I haven't.

I'd like to know when as well, I've a 600$ laptop about two years old that kicks the face off of anything I put in it. it doesn't do SUPERWTFMEGAULTRA high settings but it purrs nicely and runs like a ferrari

Aaaaa 3-4 years ok.

I've been a steam guy going on 7 and a half months now, I have two games hooked to it, Skyrim and Sots. I can't say my experience has been bad

Not a huge fan of PC controls, my laptop is weird (1.5 ghz processor can run games requiring 3.0ghz?), and I sold my soul to Microsoft to get Dawnguard early.

If by the words "paid for my game" you are suggesting that you bought the game outright, you are wrong. You paid for a licence to use the software for as long as you abide by the terms of the licence agreement. You do not own the software.

You can use the controller on pc, what I plan on doing when I can afford one. Can you use controller and keyboard combo? You know like just use hot keys on keyboard but the basics on controller?

Yeah, well, there's yer problem. Always do the research. The only thing I failed to research was retailer; bought mine direct from Toshiba and should have checked around the internet for prices - but I did after the fact, and it wouldn't have really saved much. But comparing specs and different prices between models is crucial. Better luck with the next one. Be sure to ignore the sales-guy - or better yet, don't even go to a retail store; look online and get the EXACT model you want, without having to choose between what Best Buy has in stock.

Never have bothered using offline mode, but I haven't had any problems playing games while Steam is busy synchronizing. Never had Steam hit me with a bug.

I paid for my game, actually. Go take your misguided rants on supposed entitlement mentalities somewhere else, I think the republican national convention website is -------->> way.

:shakehead: Never said you didn't just that people do tend to view copy protection as a violation of their rights. Also, politics? Really?

$1800 for any piece of machinery that's not a vehicle is absurd, games aren't that important.

And as I said, I'd never pay that for a machine that only plays games.

Bought my XBOX in 2006 when I came back to the states from 4 years in Japan, had a deal at gamestop and got 3 games with it for the price of 1. I've never had a problem, same one going strong. I understand some people have had problems. I haven't.

Well, it's good that you've had one last for six years. That seems to be unusually lucky, though.

What did you do in Japan?

I personally play on a console because Skryim would melt my computer at it's full settings. Also, I only have one computer. I don't like to have fun where I'm supposed to work because when I'm actually trying to work, I find myself playing Morrowind or Daggerfall instead... (oh my poor grades...)

I'm waiting until I have enough money saved up to buy an uber computer that I'll keep in a different room for games. Then I will ditch the consoles all together.

What, who hates steam? I [censored] love steam, I have a library of games on steam, it's all there from now and until the end of days. However there is no such solution for consoles afaik, you break a CD and you're [censored], especially if that game is a very old game. And I can run games in offline mode though I wish Skyrim had an online mode that monitored my stats and filed them in an archive of other peoples in-game stats, I think having an online database of everyone's stats in skyrim would be pretty darn cool.

Yeah, I don't have any issue with Steam. If they ever start getting nosy into what goes on in my computer I'll start drawing the line, but right now I SERIOUSLY doubt they have any inclination to do that, since they have competitors - and so why would they mess things up when they've got such a good thing going?

Comfort and my dog.

My dog is never happy with me if i"m on my computer for an extended amount of time, so I decided to buy Skyrim on the 360. Now I can play for hours on end, and my dog is curled up on my bed with me.
