do you miss behemoths

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 7:10 pm

Overall I don't miss them. It would be fun to have one running about the mojave. But I can accept the east coast super mutants are a different "breed". I can accept the lack of super mutants in the mojave or west coast as most of the Master's army was wiped out. As to "where do they get their food?', where do the giant radscorpions get theirs? I have found more giant radscorpions in the mojave than small and regular combined. Their numbers never diminish. I need Entomology.

As to Vault 87 plot holes, how did the enclave get in there to capture your character? Obviously it wasn't through kiddie town. And Enclave armor isn't that rad proof.

Personally I would hate to see a Behemoth in New Vegas, as they are created by a different strain of FEV. The Mariposa FEV Strain does not render the Mutants asixual and also does not cause them to continue to grow in size and reduce in intelligence over time which is what the Vault 87 Strain does.

We have a lot of things in the FO Universe that we have to interpret from the info we have, and that's part of the fun. I never knew for certain about the robots and the soda machines, but I thought that, since they are the ones that are least affected by the situation of the world, they just follow programming. I read the food thing in a thread long ago, and that makes sense since we eat prewar food and don't die. I had no idea about the drugs and stimpacks since sometimes you find them in locations out of first aid boxes and they have obviously been there a long time. It would be cool if we had 'aged' ones that had depleted effects.

Finally, class act for apologizing, that's almost unheard of on the Internet and very cool of you. I normally tend to take things very laid back, but for some reason this one thing gets under my skin. I know it shouldn't, but it does.

The stimpak and soda machine things I just made up for myself; I assumed other people reached the same conclusions so thanks for the confirmation. The edible food I assumed was a deliberate developer's joke.

Oh, and not to get all Hallmark, but thanks for accepting my apology. I try not to say anything on the internet that I wouldn't say in real life, you know?

Someone should start a thread asking for fan theories on the mysteries. Think it would fly?

Hah! Now ask yourself, how do they get their human captives inside without them dying of rad poisoning?*
It doesn't detract from my enjoyment of Vault 87 too much, but I do wish we'd had a bit more information.

*(The game doesn't say, but I assume there is another, well-hidden from the PC, entrance.)

Mostly goes along with the "rule of cool" gamesas does.

Oh come now, Beth aren't alone in this, it was the rule of cool that gave us Super Mutants and Power Armour and the Master in the first place. The rule of cool is pretty much the central design tenet of every videogame ever made.

I enjoyed killing the Behemoths; I would have liked to see some sort of giant enemy in New Vegas, as it has some prime locations with plenty of desert for some good combat.

other than the one at GNR, no. but that fight, meeting the BoS for the first time and being thrust into battle between them and a Behemoth plus other muties, coolest experience ever.

I woulda liked to have maybe a Behemoth in some far-removed spot, or maybe like chained up at a Legion camp ready to be unleashed at Hoover Dam. that would be cool. Hoover Dam, with a behemoth charging you. [censored] my pants.

Good Lord, people are talking about realism? In a Fallout game? Hilarious.

There's lots of other stuff to appreciate in New Vegas, so I can't say I really miss the behemoths, though it would have been neat (but too Lord of the Rings, I guess) if Caesar had a few tame ones on hand.

I'm sort of hoping the next Fallout has all new monsters & enemies, with no callbacks.

Fallout: Canada.

instead of Bighorners, It's Buckbiters! (giant beavers!)

I wish there had been a single Behemoth. I'm sure he could have wandered from DC to Nevada!

I think you missed the point of RoC. Power Armour, energy weapons stuff like that ain't Rule of Cool because in the F Universe they are actually feasible. If something is under the Rule of Cool it so frikin infeasible that even the universe it resides in raises an eyebrow.

Edit: Or The limit of the willing suspension of disbelief for a given element is directly proportional to its degree of coolness.

Not really. I didn't mind them at all in Fallout 3, but I'm not particularly bothered about them not returning.

Yes.

Lack of a signature creature in NV makes me sad. A stupid fly is the toughest fight in NV. I'm sad in the pants.

I loved them in Fallout 3... even if the ones with a car door and that was way out of size lol. But they were great fun especially in some of the situations (like the first one you encounter at the radio station, the one at the raiders where you set it free and it runs around killing raiders, the one at the huge war with you, mercs and super mutants, one after seeing that teddy bear infact they were all good apart from teh random one at the train station seemed out of place)

I suppose they might be out of place in teh Mojave, but having one secret overpowered bulletsponge one would of been great fun.

Real world demographics and food supplies don't work in RPGs you just have so suspend your disbelief in ANY fallout game as to how the people support themselves, especially the hordes of nameless enemies.
At the purifier Autumn injects himself with an unknown device before he appears to die from the radiation. This could be an advanced from of Rad-X that provides really high rad resistance (say 99.9%)

But really the high radiation around Vault 87 was a failed attempt to make it impossible to enter the vault from the front door so you'd have to use little lamplight. Make things a little more complicated. What they should have done was have a moderate to low radiation around the area and simply have the vault door locked. You don't know the password so you can't open it.

All great examples of using ones creative brain to make a great enemy. Behemoths are a great example of lazy enemy making "really big alot of HP and stupid."

XD I'm not talkign about that stuff, I'm talkign about the eyecandy explosions you see at every turn and the over the top doesn't really make sense even in the setting weapons just to see even more Eyecandy. (Mini-nukes) Plus the over all handling of nuclear weaponry(they turned the "serious" last resort use or game ending nukes to everyday occurrences.

I honestly hope that was intended as sarcasm.

Behemoth = bigger, more HP, more damage.

Legendary anything = bigger, more HP, more damage.

Behemoth = Legendary Vault 87 Super Mutant.

About the only difference is New Vegas gives us Legendary versions of more than 1 enemy, if it were like Fallout 3 there'd be 5 Legendary Cazadors spread throughout the game and you'd get another "achievement" for killing all of them.

They are larger and have more HP but they are more of a challenge to fight then a Behemoth any day. They aren't stupid like Behemoths. Behemoths to me are just the biggest bullet sponges in Fallout. They have no other reason for being. The first time I saw one outside of Galaxy News Radio I was "holy crap" but then I found out how easy it is to kill them. Everytime I run into one of New Vegas' Legendary creatures I am worried I might not be able to kill it and best of all they are not alone!

Did not hate behemoths, did not think much of them either way as any tactic worked against them.

Legendary critters = bad lazy naming imo but are few in numbers not to matter.
They however are not creative examples sorry Styles, the creatures they're based on are*, they are just a modders idea of a boss imo.

* Cazzadors themselves being the only truely unique NV beast listed.

As for creative ideas, at least no talking .... yadah, yadahs, are in NV, FO2 I loved apart from its insistance to make every critter in 1 have some "good" intelligent version.

A behemoth in NV would be a pain though, as technically only a crit from a fully repaired AM gun or Guass rifle to the head would deal much / any damage.

I don't miss the behemoths, but rather the mutants in general. I do understand that for the most part the west coast mutants aren't bloodthirsty animals that are trying to keep their race alive, but I still miss them.
