do you miss behemoths

Post » Mon Mar 07, 2011 1:33 am

No, man -- you were using in-game logic (Fallout realism) which is fun. I think we're more or less on the same wavelength. Others were grumbling that the Behemoths were unrealistic because there wasn't enough to eat, which is imposing (IMO opinion, very undesirable) real-world realism on a freakin' video game about survivable nuclear war, radiation making you immortal, CRT-driven devices that outperform nanotechnology, radiation making giant insects and animals, etc, etc. If this game was realistic it would be a 40 hour starvation sim.

Those comments were just thinly veiled Bethbashing, anyway. People need to lighten up and have fun. People not lightening up and having fun makes me grumpy. LOL.

Pretty much...including your last statements.

No I don't I didn't care at all for the East coast Super Mutants. They didn't measure up to the West coasts.

A nightkin behemoth would be awesome.... may have it only appear at night outdoors patrolling the sparsely populated areas. That would bring a whole new level of, "OH, NO! I just crapped my pants!" to the game. Night should be darker so it would give me an incentive to actually use night vision scopes/binoculars. I think that would make things more exciting and enjoyable.

It still makes me feel pretty dumbo to have the most fun when imposing real world logical theories into Fallout...

If anything, Beth got it right in regards to the FEV and super mutants. The Master never improved the East Coast FEV. it was left in its prewar, incomplete form. Beth made that their own and I congratulate them for it.

I disagree. It made little, if any sense for Vault Tec to have FEV. Given that the only fallout game we try to forget was slammed for doing this, I think it was a very "Brave and Courageous" decision to make the same mistake.

Now a military bunker with test subjects would make sense... However we have a name for that place: Mariposa.

VT was commissioned by the original Enclave (Evil prewar government) to produce the vaults as experiments. Why would it be a stretch that the Pre War Gov. gave VT some FEV to experiment with? None of the Vaults were made for protecting citizens. the ones that do work like advertised were all control vaults. I could understand it "making little sense" if VT was just some innocent vault making company that svcked at making them, but their just as evil and capable as the Enclave. This was obviously a huge mistake on their part since the post war Enclaves goal is to eradicate the mutations they constructed. I blame the New-Plague though. Without it we wouldn't of even had a game.

I never knew that Enclave commisioned Vault-Tech. Was there something that gave it away in one of the previous games, or was it on the Wiki?

The Enclave conspiracy got to where it was by knowing how to spin multiple plates, and not have them crash into each other.

Spreading the use of FEV opens it more and more to being discovered, especially in an officially civilian organisation like Vault Tec. It was supposed to be one of the military's highest secrets after all.

If I remember correctly, there weren't supposed to be any FEV outside The Glow and Mariposa.

Whats the use of secrets if the bombs fall? So it makes perfect sense that the FEV was in Vault 87...it was yet another experiment.

Vault Tec was only responsible for construction IIRC. They had nothing to do with weapons research.

@ the person asking when it was said VT was comissioned: Since Fallout 2.

Enclave conducting experiments... With vaults..

Why would it make sense for VT to be making their own experiments?

Maybe I don't miss the Behemoths specifically but it sure is disappointing not having any boss type enemies to fight (aside from one or two Legendary monsters).

There is "realism" and there is "making sense". Just saying. The existence of Behemoths or Super Mutant in general at the East Coast does not "making sense". Its more of "adding" flavor of Fallout, if anything.

Enclave is a secret organization that shadow the US government. It does not always mean they are the Government of the time nor they really have all the information that the government is hiding. The fact they stumble upon Mariposa Base couple years before Fallout 2 and not know about the true nature of the FEV until AFTER the miners started turning into Super Mutant tells me they know jack about the experimentation of the virus or its overall existence (they just got a sample upon discovering the FEV). The only group that would have known are the scientists in charge of the experiment (both West Tek Research Facility and Mariposa Base) and practically the fore father of the Brotherhood of Steel, Roger Maxon.

Whats the use of secrets if the bombs fall? So it makes perfect sense that the FEV was in Vault 87...it was yet another experiment.

Because the idea that Vault Tec and Enclave suddenly know about the FEV is just wrong in term of time. It was still in a experimental process via lab before the bomb fell.

A little canon on how much VT actually knew:

Like many major military contractors before the Great War, as Vault-Tec grew in profitability and responsibility, it began to develop highly experimental, advanced and secret technologies. In time, Vault-Tec was so thoroughly integrated with top-secret military research done by the Pentagon that it had practically become a department of the U.S. government. However, the company still remained in private hands. Yet, because of its strong connection to the American government the principal personnel of Vault-Tec - its executives, top scientists and engineers, and so on - had to be aware of the true purpose of the Vaults and Project Safehouse, and they had access to the technology used throughout the program since they were the developers of the experimental protocols to be used on each Vault's population.

Because the idea that Vault Tec and Enclave suddenly know about the FEV is just wrong in term of time. It was still in a experimental process via lab before the bomb fell.

What do you think it was doing in 87? It was being tested.

What does this have to do with the Enclave or any part of the gov. sending some FEV to 87 before the war? Plus I already said the difference, I said "Evil prewar gov." and "pre war gov."

Frankly, I just make my own guesses when I'm playing the game, and I just thought that Vault-Tec had made the entire Vault concept, and decided they'd want to make experiments along with that to try to rebuild America's salvation and warfare.

I knew that the Enclave was part of the government, based on the fact of Raven Rock, but I didn't know that they were controlling Vault-Tech, I thought they were just given orders to (censor) things up.

The problem is that West Tek is practically its own branch of research. I added in Vault Tec and Enclave because ya mention both of them but in all things, they did not know the about the FEV. The U.S. Army did. West Tek were trying to make an cure for the biological warfare of China but stumble upon abnormal growth. The U.S. Army has the research move to Mariposa Base to get a better anolyze to make it useful on making Super Soldier. Another problem a raise the fact that the bomb were drop just after they move the vats of FEV to the said base.

Nothing at all, I just think that I'm way too addicted to the game (playing from when I wake up to 2 a.m.) to be thinking about references to so many things so much.

But when the vault was constructed, and the FEV delivered the Bomb hadn't fallen. Society was still continuing on

John Q DeliveryWorker wants to earn some extra money to buy his special someone an engagement ring... Maxwell Q Foriener at the local diner offers him a months wages and all he has to do is make a certain box go missing on the dock. All of a sudden, China's got FEV and is trying to breed its own group of SuperSoldiers.

When its concurrently being tested by the US military directly at Mariposa?

(Remember, its this testing that disgusted Maxson so much that he mutanied and formed the BOS)
