43 years oldie. Here's a picture of me taken 32 years ago unboxing my Atari 2600. My favourite game was Adventure - the story of a knee with an arrow in it who slayed dragons and plundered dungeons

Is that the game where you control a dot [or a square, can't remember] and bring stuff around? Dragons were more like chickens lol

Industry Facts

America's entertainment software industry creates a wide array of computer and video games to meet the demands and tastes of audiences as diverse as our nation's population. Today's gamers include millions of Americans of all ages and backgrounds. In fact, nearly three-quarters of all American households play games. This vast audience fuels the growth of this multi-billion dollar industry and helps bring jobs to communities across the nation. Below is a list of the top 10 entertainment software industry facts:
  • Consumers spent $25.1 billion on video games, hardware and accessories in 2010.
  • Purchases of digital content accounted for 24 percent of game sales in 2010, generating $5.9 billion in revenue.
  • Seventy-two percent of American households play computer or video games.
  • The average game player is 37 years old and has been playing games for 12 years.
  • The average age of the most frequent game purchaser is 41 years old.
  • Forty-two percent of all game players are women. In fact, women over the age of 18 represent a significantly greater portion of the game-playing population (37 percent) than boys age 17 or younger (13 percent).
  • In 2011, 29 percent of Americans over the age of 50 play video games, an increase from nine percent in 1999.
  • Fifty-five percent of gamers play games on their phones or handheld device.
  • Seventy-six percent of all games sold in 2010 were rated "E" for Everyone, "T" for Teen, or "E10+" for Everyone 10+. For more information on game ratings, please see http://www.esrb.org/.
  • Parents are present when games are purchased or rented 91 percent of the time.

And some day game devs will acknowledge the facts and design games for us: Clear on screen text in big fonts, large simple buttons... Oh wait a minute.... ;)

Yikes, looks like I'm the oldest one here in terms of joining the forums ...

Beat me by four months. Technically I was here in 2004, but since the Skyrim hype and revamp i lost my old account.

With M rated titles it's the norm for the 30+ crowd to outweight the teens and twenty-somethings in the fan base. There are plenty of forum members in their 50s and 60s here, and a smattering above that.

Call of Duty.

Just under 40 here. Been playing games since the Atari 2600 was created and computer games on my Texas Instruments Ti-99 computer. Of course, back then you had to type in the computer game programs yourself found printed in computer magazines.

30 here, Skyrim is the one for me, grew up on dungeon/quest games and the era of fighting fantasy books, games workshop, hero quest, battle cards etc.. those were great days and Skyrim takes me back.

I'm so old, I was around when there really were dragons....

It all started with DOOM.

I really only play the grand Bethesda games, though....(and Mass Effect)....there's just something about the style and atmosphere of Elder Scrolls and the Fallout games that set them apart.

I'm under the impression that the majority of the people on these forums are 30 or older. I won't be 30 for another 12 years though.

Yup... 44 here. Just about anyone who has played ALL TES games is going to be 40 or pushing it, unless they're a glutton for retro.
