Consumers spent $25.1 billion on video games, hardware and accessories in 2010.
Purchases of digital content accounted for 24 percent of game sales in 2010, generating $5.9 billion in revenue.
Seventy-two percent of American households play computer or video games.
The average game player is 37 years old and has been playing games for 12 years.
The average age of the most frequent game purchaser is 41 years old.
Forty-two percent of all game players are women. In fact, women over the age of 18 represent a significantly greater portion of the game-playing population (37 percent) than boys age 17 or younger (13 percent).
In 2011, 29 percent of Americans over the age of 50 play video games, an increase from nine percent in 1999.
Fifty-five percent of gamers play games on their phones or handheld device.

With M rated titles it's the norm for the 30+ crowd to outweight the teens and twenty-somethings in the fan base. There are plenty of forum members in their 50s and 60s here, and a smattering above that.
Just under 40 here. Been playing games since the Atari 2600 was created and computer games on my Texas Instruments Ti-99 computer. Of course, back then you had to type in the computer game programs yourself found printed in computer magazines.
30 here, Skyrim is the one for me, grew up on dungeon/quest games and the era of fighting fantasy books, games workshop, hero quest, battle cards etc.. those were great days and Skyrim takes me back.
I'm so old, I was around when there really were dragons....
It all started with DOOM.
I really only play the grand Bethesda games, though....(and Mass Effect)....there's just something about the style and atmosphere of Elder Scrolls and the Fallout games that set them apart.
