100% cpu - 0% GPU usage - Constant freezes.

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 5:11 am

I didn′t want to open a new topic, since I just wanted to say, WTF?

I wasn′t even checking to see what was the GPU or CPU usage for me....

When I did, i was shocked :( .

GPU usage was 37-40% when in game playing. The temperature on my Fermi 100 (GTX470) moved almost nothing, it was 40°C in FULL LOAD . In BF3 Beta tha usage is 100%, and temp between 75-80°C ,which is normal for this card.

They really messed it up this time.

id please end your agreement with Bethesda and do the games your way, beacouse this svcks.

No surround audio
No real graphics
Everything optimized for consoles :( .

Sad, really sad :(
Even with cuda transcode on my fermi isnt even breaking a sweat. 30% usage or so. If I turn on 16xAA tho it will peg sometimes.

I heard alot of stuff about cuda commands .. Does those fix the usage and epic lag when AI is on? If yes then what are these commands ? if not then what are they for. Any help appreciated

Yes there are commands, but its not wise to use them as you don't want transcode on all the time.

Anyone having stuttering issues and running game from Steam try this:

Rightclick Rage > Properties > General > Set Launch Options... > add following: +jobs_numThreads 0

Seems to remove all freezing and stuttering issues for me.

Btw: I'm running with the new Rage patch and the 11.10 Preview V2 drivers and NO special rageconfig.cfg file. I've set the Texture Cache to Large, Aniso to Low, No AA in the new graphics options and it seems to run pretty smooth.. Except I get a crash when I move to a certain place in Wellspring... ARGH!

After the new patch on Sat I tried to play mmm not good as I was locking up and freezing even more:/ Came back to this site and found this and did some reading... http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1238786-new-rage-pc-update/ I came across the how to on .... improve the memory situation on your computer by changing the Windows paging file management. So long story shot what the hell , I did what he said and now I can play w/ way less lock ups / freezes :celebration: I still lock up / freeze once in a few but I can play RAGE fully for the first time. I also had to play in the video settings in game and in CCC . Truth be told I am still not fully sure what to set it all at in the CCC :/ So I will keep reading and playing in CCC and hope I can fully get rid of the freeze thing :toughninja: If not maybe the next update w/ video driver or Rage may fully fix it.

I've also tried basically everything and game is unplayable.

I have AMD Athlon X2 250 @ 3,5Ghz
4 Gb RAM
ATI HD5750

All the hotfix drivers are not working for me. Catalyst AI set to ON just freezes the game like hell and turned off I get missing textures.
Only drivers that are giving approx. 20-30 FPS with no freezes and texture problems are 11.6 ones.

Game's not 100% smooth but still it is better than lagging/freezing all the time.

This fixed the freezing issue for me but the game still runs like poop. There are intermittent "A-HA!" mometns where my FPS shoots up, then it drops and drops until its a slideshow (not freezing though) then picks up again....rinse...repeat.

Alright guys. I just registered to post you my solution. I had the exact same problems. And i tried everything. the 11.6 driver solution was OKish, but way too low fps and looked like crap. With the 11.10 Driver i had the smoothest game, but artifacts all over the place. I did everything posted here, but nothing worked really good ...and then i had it right :D

Im running it on a E8400 dual core with ATI HD6000er on win7 64.

It looks perfect now, and constantly high fps without any stuttering.

I′ll give you a rough idea what you have to do:
______________________________

-Uninstall your current ATI Driver in windows - software

-Use Driver Cleaner to delete any relics of the driver

--Download the official 11.9 driver from AMD. This is IMPORTANT. This is the only driver who worked fine for me with my config.

-Now, restart and install the 11.9 driver --> restart.

-open the catalyst graphic options and put everything to "use application settings" / triple buffer off/ Force VSync ON / (blabla i think thats not the important part)

-Go to C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE/Profiles.xml and EDIT. Search for "Catalyst" and you find one entry for the catalyst AI. Change it the "enable" to "Disable"

Now RESTART again.

When windows is up again, you go to the Task manager and Shut down "CCC.exe" and "MOM.exe".

Now you any config for rage which is around, its all nice and stuff.

Run the game and enjoy your sunday :)
______________________________

Key element is: MOM.EXE and CCC.exe seems to be responsible for the 100% CPU Usage on the rage exe. and the 11.9 driver is the only one which worked for me (without AI). The rest is like all the other guys already said and explained. You can use whatever rageconfig or commands on your rage.exe.

I needed 3 days to get to this result, and i want to thank everyone who posted here, it helped me alot because i used every idea from a lot of threads and finally it worked for me :)

I hope this fixes it for some more guys here.

Greetings!

"+jobs_numThreads 0" helped me aswell.. to actually see the game for the first time. It wont freeze but it's eating 100% of my other CPU and 50% of the other so
it's sort of laggy.

Did you try it with 11.9 ? Did you clean your old driver with driver cleaner?

With 11.10 i get that, too. But not in 11.9

Thanks, seems to be working for me, no flickering textures, missing blocks or freezes so far (and I've almost played for 5 minutes). :-)

WOW that did work , I had to set texture cache to LARGE to be get rid of texture streaming , but ye thanks for this mate , While i am having a bit of low FPS ( Since older drivers ) its way better than blocky textures , i am gonna check around forums to find if there is any way to improve performance

EXACT same thing for me, took me 10-20 min just to get out of the damn pod, i doubt id will even attempt to help us and just either ignore all the pc players or just try to solve "most" of the problems and pretty much bone the rest of us

Blubb , Can you give me the Config and Launch parameters you use? I used your fix and while it did work , the FPS is sorta low like on 11.6 unlike the 11.10 45-55 FPS that i get, I was wondering maybe i can improve my FPS by using configs like yours? Also did you need to resort to configs to make it run smooth or it ran smooth without them?

All i can say is, The patch actually fixed most of my issues, ive got the Cache set to high, everything else is whatever it was, i have no config file anymore, and ive got the newest ati drivers 11.10's,

my steam launch options are
+jobs_numthreads 0 +vt_maxPPF 16 +cvaradd g_fov 20 +set com_skipIntroVideo

Thats all ive done, i can run the game, its only running at around 20-30fps with some jitter, but playable if not annoying - Should be solved as this has promted me to buy a freaking Quad core setup, so by Tuesday ill be rocking on rolling *sigh*

The patch didnt do anything for me, i was able to stop the freezing by setting the compatibility mode to Windows 98/ME.
It helped, a little bit, but the game is still unplayable, texture loading too long and the game moves slowly because of this.

The patch seems to have stopped the freezing for me, however I'm still getting texture popping and my CPU is still around the 90% mark. Using the 11.10v2 drivers.

Graphics Card: ATI 5770
CPU: Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU E4400 @ 2.00GHz (2 CPUs)
4GB RAM
OS: XP

Setting compatibility mode for Win98/ME did not work for me either

Using the +jobs_numThreads 0 command too in launch options
