100% cpu - 0% GPU usage - Constant freezes.

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 9:35 am

Another thing I just noticed playing the game, my cores are no longer saturated and staying at 100%. They fluctuate around 20-75%, so I guess this is normal, where before, it clearly wasn't.

It's not normal, rage is very well optimized with the Catalyst AI turned off It uses only 50-60% of my E6400 I played about 3-4 hours without any stuttering or freeze, the problem is the catalyst AI that svcks a ton of computing power the minimum requirements for the game are way lower, you overcame the problem using more power but I don't think this is acceptable the game should work as advertised on the box

Minimum:
OS: Win XP SP3, Vista, Win 7
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo or Equivalent AMD
Memory: 2GB
Hard Disk Space: 25GB
Video Card: GeForce 8800, Radeon HD 4200

Right, finally got the game to do less stuttering like in my Video by using this config and nothing else - But still the CPU is hammered beyond usability at 100% usage and priority still reverting back to low and GPU is still sitting at 0% usage (the middle stat in purple) heres another video showing what its like outside the Pod thingie.

I get this all the time too. Very annoying and distracting especially during races.

Luckily I have never had it crash during the long pause/freeze and it never skips time either.

Must be a bug with the ATI driver and I have a 5850 and looks like most people here have ATI.

I hope this is fixed in tomorrows promised ATI driver update.

I hope this is fixed in tomorrows promised ATI driver update.

I think they will just combine the BF3 and the RAGE driver in one package and we will have the same problem

Ive almost exhausted every possible way of trying to fix the issue now, ive tryed different configs, launch options in steam, new drivers, old drivers, clean install of windows and no junk installed just steam, cat ai disabled or enabled makes no difference - And everytime its using the CPU all the time, its not even using the GPU power at all, the thing is idling - This cant be a driver issue surely, if it was then other games would be doing something similar...Anyway ive got a feeling all this will be ignored and nothing will come of it.

It doesn't worth to disable the CatalystAI anyway. The game will run at 60 FPS, but then it will become unplayable because of these boxes of random textures everywhere, like checkerboard.

But if you wanna bother to try properly disable it: you need change the value of CatalystAI to 'disabled" in the "C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE\Profiles.xml", and restart the MOM.exe process.
But make sure the value doesn't change back after process restart. You can force it by making it read only.

Hey guy's same problem here...

E8400 @ 3,6 GHz
ATI HD 4850 512MB + OC
4GB DDR2 Ram @800 MHz
ATI Rage Performance Driver

If Catalyst AI is enabled i have 100% CPU usage and 0% GPU usage and these realy bad freezes and ultra laaaags.
If it is disabled in CCC i can play the game at 1680*1050 fluently, but all textures are random.

waiting for patch like you all do....

ps: I'm german and my english is not very well, but I hope my text is understandable.

I've tried every combination of 11.9 drivers with and without the hotfix, TripleBuffering on / off, VSync on / off, the config file that's running around the Steam forums... still with the terrible freezing / stuttering. All this really svcks; as I remember when Doom 2 got released, and I bought it and have been an id Software fan since then, but this is really unacceptable.

Same here! Tried all that stuff and even defragged my rage install folder.. Nothing helps, actually most of the stuff I tried like config files only made it worse!

Hope we see some fix pretty soon!!!

At least I have managed to make a savegame outside the pod exit after THE STUPID NON-SKIPPABLE CUTSCENE!!!! ARGH!!

Look the cutscene looks great and enjoyed it first time, but when you've tried to start the game 10 times in a row because it's broken you get REALLY TIRED!!!!!!! :(

Win7x64
E8500@3.16GHz
4GB RAM
ATI 5870 1GB VRAM
ATI Rage Performance Driver (Yeah, right!)

Definatly a pattern with this complaint, any E series CPU basically, which is odd considering these CPUs dont have a problem with most if not all modern game engines, and another thing we all have in common is the ATI card of some sort...You know i really think all major game releases should have a PUBLIC beta phase, that way the Devs will get the whole range of computer setups to work on the issues before its released retail - If more Devolopers realised the potential in doing this, then maybe games will start coming out a little more polished gold, instead of polished lead.

CatalystCreator:
The V2 11.10 driver doesn't include any new performance gains for BF3 or Rage - it's now unified and resolves some Rage issues plus Xp/Vista

hope it works but that " doesn't include any new performance gains" is scary here's the link
http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/GPU122AMDCat1110PreDriverV2.aspx

UPDATE:
I've installed the new drivers Wellspring is so beautiful take a look

Basically as soon as the first cut scene is done and your in that pod thing, the game freezes for 15-20 secs then resumes for 1 sec, then freezes for etc, all while the GPU is sitting at 0% usage, and the CPU is hammered at 100%
I have this problem too (with a Radeon 6670 1GB running Windows XP), with both the 11.9 drivers and the http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/GPU122AMDCat1110PreDriverV2.aspx. However, I went back to the 11.6 drivers and the framerate was just fine with those drivers although they suffer quite a bit from texture popping.

Ha more E series 2 core problems, definatly a major pattern with this specific issue, now if one of the devs would take an interest and possibly message a couple of us, we could probably help an resolve the issue if they tell us what they need to see. All well and good us sitting here saying this and that but nothing from a dev or a mod with connections to the dev team to say otherwise.

Same problem... You spend 6 years to product this game and here's the result ? Just wow...

Windows 7 64 bits
Intel? Pentium? Dual-Core P6200 2,13 GHz
4GB RAM (SO-DIMM DDR3 1066 MHz)
ATI Mobility? Radeon? HD5650
Catalyst Rage Performance Driver/Catalyst 11.10 Version 2 Preview Driver

With this laptop I can play to Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, Dead Island, Deus Ex Human Revolution, Duke Nukem Forever, E.Y.E., FEAR 3, From Dust and Red Faction Armaggedon.

I noticed same pattern, sadly Im planning nearer end of year getting new system. Ive tryed two newest drivers, and same keeps happening. I wish it was just tearing or something smaller so I could even play it but noo :S
I truly wish id/beth arranges somekind small treat to us whos suffered because of this... Im gonna put hold plans getting skyrim before Im sure this aint happening again, kinda pissed when could got drunk even this weekend, but money went elsewhere ^^

Yup I noted that in one of my many replies, changing it while running the game results in it automatically reverting back to low...I'm now sick of trying and I've given as much info as I can and videos of the issue. Not sure what else I can add, but I hope this thread keeps growing.

Same problems here, I get past the intro video and it's like I'm trying to play on a P3. A split second of game then 10 seconds of frozen, rinse, repeat.
removed and applied the new 11.10 driver today, no dice whatsoever.

Dual Core E6750
Radeon HD5770
Win 7pro-64
4GB Mem

At this point I'd settle for low res and goofy textures etc. if I could actually play. I just finished Deus Ex Human Revolution and had no issues whatsoever.

same issue with me. as soon as the game starts, constant stutter. can't even get out of the cryo chamber. Seems like it's an issue with the older e series intel coupled with ati. no idea why. ATI has always had garbage opengl drivers so i didn't expect much, but figured i would at least be able to play it lol

Same problem here too with all drivers (including the rage performance driver released 10/4 and 10/7) except for 11.8.

With 11.8 I get flickering npcs and texture pop, but it's playable just very frustrating.

With the rage performance drivers I get this effect, freeze - tiny texture loads - freeze - tiny texture loads - freeze and so on.
