Bethesda launch fail

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 12:02 pm

Yeah, I think 11-11-11 was a bad date to release it on. Every game that I've gotten has always been released on a Tuesday. To add extra days just so you can get a fancy date to release it on seems kind of stupid to me.

I can't escape the fact that if Bethesda hadn't got all numerological with the release date, we'd all be playing Skyrim now instead of just a lucky few... thanks a lot Bethesda.

Also, seeing videos everywhere of gameplay makes me hate the 360's DLC exclusivity even more. If the current situation is bad, the situation of DLC videos that won't get taken down because it is street legal for 360 means a month of videos for the rest of us to endure/dodge for each and every DLC released.

...thanks a lot Bethesda. :sadvaultboy:
Exclsive DLCs? For what time? One month?

I suppose I can agree, but 11:11:11 isn't numerology. It's just some dumb superstition than when it is 11:11 pm, you can kiss your watch and make a wish. It's stupid all the same, but the only reason they went 11:11:11 was because it's catchy and easy to remember. I paraphrase when I say that Todd Howard said something about how he thought 11:11:11 might have been binary for something. It's just 63. It's the most you can get with a byte and a nibble.

I know the wait is unbearable, but it's less than 3 days now! It comes out on friday, so we'll have all weekend to play Skyrim! It's almost over.

Nothing is as bad as someone having entitlement issues and their need to express it in a nerdraged fashion.

It's 3 days till the games released and just like with the current game spoilers... spoilers from new DLC's take less than common sense to avoid.

eh I'm not getting the game until my birthday - the 18th - and I see no reason to be upset. Plus I'm a fan of anime, so I have to deal with Japan getting a lot of things I want months before I do. But yeah I guess I don't understand why it is a big deal that some people get it early, so please explain if you could.

The United States would have gotten it on Tuesday. The rest of the globe would have to wait for 11.11.11 anyway

If only consoles had the resistance to piracy and leaks that Steam offers. (of course I'm referring to pre-release) Most Steamworks games tend not to get "leaked" and even if they do, the pre-load was so close to the release date that nobody can crack it in time. Xbox on the other-hand... simple as hell to play a leaked game - not to mention the Mass Effect 3 crap that Microsoft got themselves involved with. Leaking the Beta of ME3 and also the game's script has been fully leaked too... great to know the game's ending before the year it even releases...

How do you know that had they not picked a Friday, that they would have picked THIS Tuesday to release, and not NEXT Tuesday? You can think of it as "They svck we are playing 3 days later." or as "They rock we are playing it 4 days earlier, AND we get a weekend to enjoy it right away!"

If there was ever a situation where it felt like nice guys finish last, this would be it. I'm tired of being last in line for doing the right thing. I wait, I don't watched leaked footage, I pay for my games (months in advance), all so a bunch of snotty kids in their parents' basemants can pirate the game and play it early. Don't get me started on the [censored] who insist on posting spoiler material just to ruin your day.

It's a sad state of affairs when a simple street-date can't be held to and those of us doing the right thing end up paying for it.

What is the whole deal with release dates anyway? I don't see why there should be a lock.

It always seemed to me that a release date is just a 'guarantee' to the fans that you WILL find if for sale everywhere on this date. At the latest. Meaning you WILL find it on the 11th no matter where you go.

Actually, it's more of a legally binding contract with retailers to not sell it prior to that date.

But it's kind of silly to expect any developer to be able to police every single store that wants to carry the game.

Think about it. It doesn't matter what day they chose. There'd still be some bonehead who'd leak it, there'd still be journalist(s) who ignore the review embargo, there'd still be pirated console copies, and there'd still be stores selling copies early.

It comes out in 2 days 1 hour, get over yourself, seriously. *snip*

Isn't it more of a contract between the publisher and the distributor? I mean, we always get nice notes on how we're not supposed to sell it, but rarely do we actually have to sign a contract as store in which we promise not to sell it. [Incase of everything Blizzard and Call of Doody]

Do you work for a small store or a branch of a larger chain?

My guess is the latter, which would explain why your store didn't sign anything. The documents would have been signed much higher up. I worked at Best Buy for a while: individual stores don't have any say over what games they do or don't carry. They can only request supplies, but the decisions for what to carry, etc. are all made at a corporate level.

it's pretty svckish how many people have Skyrim already.

I don't know, I'm rather happy that some folks have the opportunity to play it a couple days early. Good for them.
