Bug List

VATS is broken. Shots consistently fire off-center from certain guns. This is very easy to demonstrate: start a new game, forceav guns to 100, give yourself a brush gun (121148), a .357 revolver (8f216), their respective ammos (140a9e, 13e43e), and go to Easy Pete. Back out to the nearby road, then open fire with the brush gun. You can very clearly see the bullet strikes on the window behind him, and they will consistently strike above his head. Backing further away will not solve the problem; the pattern remains high. Setting fvatsrangespreadmax to a high number (say, 10000) will give you 95% accuracy, and you can thereby verify that this pattern of high shots is not just a statistical anomaly - that the point of aim is about a foot high at that range. But repeat the experiment with the .357 revolver and notice that it does not suffer the same problem!

Some less thorough testing leads me to believe that the problem is on a gun-by-gun basis, and not an issue with (for instance) rifles but not pistols. The 9mm pistol does not seem to have the problem; the .44 mag revolver does; the .357 lever action rifle does...more, I haven't tested.

Either way, the problem is quite real, very obnoxious, not present in Fallout 3, and desperately in need of a patch. VATS is almost useless with certain guns until this is patched.

edited to add: thank you for the consolidated thread, and the assurance that devs do read this board. It means the difference between thinking 'They're overworked; give them time' and 'They're ignoring us'.

Good to see an official bug reporting thread. Thanks devs.

I noticed the following issues yesterday. Only mod I'm using is the Better Binoculars mod.

It seems certain sound effects are missing. I'm not referring to the sound lag that others are experiencing with single-core CPUs. This only seems to happen with specific sounds.

- The door opening sounds are missing for some buildings (like the Novac motel). They work when going into the building but you hear nothing going out.

- Some NPC speech is silent when they're wearing armor that muffles their speech like the NCR face wrap armor. I know they're supposed to be saying something because I have subtitles on.

NPC's aggro against Ed-E also happens to caravan traders.. 2 separate times after talking to NCR they ran off to kill caravans in the same way they agroo against ED-E.

-Cards that are purchased from vendors are not added to the Caravan deck, but remain loose in the Misc. inventory.

-Surplus ammo doesn't seem to be recognized as an ammo type until you drop it on the ground and pick it back up.

I believe this is the same issue, it is related to items that move into the player inventory and use the OnAdd script function, for some reason the script will not begin until the item in question is removed and picked up. Having the same issue in a mod im working on where OnAdd just doesnt trigger.

Radio DJ New Vegas is bugged. It looks like that game folder where music for it is located includes lots of songs which I have never heard from DJ. He seems to be playing only very small part of those songs over and over.

Veronica won't comment on events or locations like she is supposed to. Without her comments, her quest chain cannot be started. Reloading and reinstalling did not fix the bug.

No mods being run, Windows 7 64 bit. The game runs smooth 99% of the time, random crashes that aren't repeatable except for 1, and lots of glitches that I will list here. This is for the PC version.

  • When competing in the Thorn, if you don't go through the gates the game will lock up and crash (repeatable). Also if your entrance gate, or the monsters gate is still open during/after the fight and you go through either of them instead of the gate to your right, it will crash (repeatable).

  • Severe lag time between VATS, and reloading. This will happen up to 5 seconds where VATS will finish, or a reload is completed but unable to go back into VATS or fire a shot. (repeatable)

  • Monster HP not showing on bar. This usually happens in caves for some reason. A monster will show to be out of HP after the first shot but is obviously a glitch. (repeatable)

  • Finishing the Still in the Dark line and getting the key from the elder for the safe house, not recommended to use the key. Inside the safe house is a named BOS paladin who is immediately agro and starts shooting. Even if you leave the safe house without engaging in fighting or killing the paladin, the entire BOS bunker save for 1 single generic scribe wants to kill you. When going down the stairs in the bunker the non-agro scribe will rush up to you, your screen will pull up like he's going to start talking, then goes back to normal where he stands partially blocking the stairs. Days of waiting does not change agro to BOS, effectively killing any further patrols in the bunker unless you want to slaughter the entire regiment. No hostile actions taken on BOS other than entering the safehouse. (repeatable)

  • Working on the Papa line in Red Rock, residents will become randomly agro and begin attacking. (repeatable). I'm assuming that the Khans are tied to the Legion in agro though no indication is given (Legion are agro, their towns stating such, but Red Rock still showing Neutral). Jack and Diane friendly, able to convince them to go against the Legion, once leaving the area the entire town becomes agro. (repeatable)

  • Crazy Crazy Crazy line, Neil will not follow into the last fight at the top of the Mtn if you engage the Nightstalkers first. (repeatable) Also randomly a Deathclaw popped out mid fight and worked with the Nightstalkers to kill me. Trained Deathclaws by muties? (not repeatable)

  • If you have Boone and get near Cottonwood, he will mention he won't go in without fighting, if you leave without approaching Cottonwood, the Legion will turn agro even after recieving Ceasars mark. (repeatable)

  • Approaching Nelson several NCR soliders are already rushing past to storm Nelson. Legion are agro (even if previously neutral) and will attack immediately. If the player does not fight back the NCR slaughter of the Legion still effects standing with Legion. (repeatable)

  • Return to Sender. Once you talk to Hanlon and choose to turn him in he will shoot himself and a nearby ranger will open his office door and rush in. The ranger will stand there, gun drawn indefinitely. You can pull the unique 6 shooter with Z into another room and "steal it" for negative karma. If you take the gun (labled red) in front of the ranger the entire camp will become agro to you. (repeatable) Also, Hanlon's speech over the PA is exceptionally slow. He will finish a sentence then have a 10-15 second break between his next sentence.

Just to repeat from the other thread, since this isn't in Grimhound's list (yet): There have been multiple reports of Veronica not commenting on the locations where she should. This breaks her quest line.

Weapon Mod: Cby. Rep. Maple Stock doesn't actually reduce the weight of the Cowboy Repeater when applied. The weight of the item in my inventory is correctly reported as WG 3.5, but dropping the item results in a decrease of WG 5.0, and picking it back up adds WG 5.0.

I get +100 karma, seemingly randomly, for killing feral ghouls (http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1130565-positive-karma-awarded-for-killing-feral-ghouls).

* The Cowboy Repeater has an issue where it can lock up firing, loading, weapon switching, Pipboy activation, etc. It leaves you only able to move until it resolves.

So that is what's happening. I've been killed quite a few times because of this. Now that I think about it, I was using the cowboy repeater each time it happened.

See my post at the top of this page. It goes more into detail about it. (Pretty much half the guns in the game have this problem.)

Double clicking on the launcher will cause the launcher to crash. Happens most often in the 'data' sub menu for loading mods.

I have been to Trudy"s office in the prospector Saloon looking for 2 magazines; Salesmen Weekly and meeting People, they are not there. I went and cleared out the prison for Lying, Congressional Style, and it is also missing. Is this a bug, or did something change after the Strategy Guide was finished?

First, thank you for the official-ish response to the bugs. Nice to know that the mods, at least, are reading the forums. ;)

I figure now's a good time to post the screenshots I've been accumulating recently:

1. As I mentioned in the previous thread, the items in Big Sal's office are not marked as owned. Screenshot: http://imgur.com/IDWYK.jpg . This is also true for all of Vault 3, no screens of that though. Why Obsidian didn't just ditch Bethesda's stupid ownership system I'll never understand. "Oh, I can't buy that cigarette from you, you stole it from a camp ten miles away that I've never been to or seen but somehow I recognize the tell-tale signs of the cigarette once being the property of someone I'm affiliated with." But I digress.

2. Also mentioned earlier, generic NPCs sometimes spawn without clipping information, unable to move or be interacted with, and able to be walked through. Here's a traveling merchant and her pack brahmin: http://imgur.com/xxF2b.jpg . Note that I haven't seen this happen since the second patch; but since Bethesda refuses to give us patch notes (bastards) I don't know if that's a coincidence or not.

3. The space suit helmet is bugged and doesn't display male hair correctly (no idea about female hair). This is repeatable, but it doesn't always work exactly the same. Here's what it looks like optimally: http://imgur.com/yni3e.jpg . That's not my character's hairstyle, but I'm guessing that's an engine flaw and it's not a big deal. Here's what it looks like if I turn the camera a bit: http://imgur.com/GKZDH.jpg . Whoa! Where'd your hair go, guy? Looking a bit silly there, aren't ya? Here's what it looks like if I turn the camera the other direction: http://imgur.com/RE5wX.jpg . Again, this behavior isn't always the same, but it is definitely repeatable and happens almost any time I use the helmet with free-look. Normal third person usually looks fine, VATS is harder to watch but I'll keep my eye on it.

NPCs ( female & elderly only so far ) have glowing purple or blue face & neck sometimes with black squares on older males w\ facial hair. I am running the dll fix but the problem persists even if the file is removed ( though the npc slowdown returns and my hardware is once again correctly detected ). Ive tried starting new games but this issue crops up each time.
OK NOT A BUG re-installed game and problems gone.

Quest "Three card bounty", Camp McCarran. Three bounties: Nephi, Cook-cook and Violet.

I first took the Driver Nephi mission and collected the money afterwards.
Then I took the Cook-cook mission, but by accident I got to Violet first. I decided to take out Cook-cook as well, before returning to Major Dhatri.

When I tried to collect my bounty, he congratulates me on Violet's kill and says: "only two more to go". HUH????? I can forgive him for not knowing I had Cook-cook's head in my bag as well, but I already collected the Nephi bounty, so he should say there is only one to go.

I was able collect the cook-cook bounty normally after that, so no biggie.

1 minor script bug to report. After making the robot the sheriff in Primm, the NCR boss across the bridge still gives you dialog options for NCR becoming the sheriff.

1) I was playing Blackjack in Gamorrah casino when I noticed that the dealer got 5 cards which I was sure added up to more than 21 but the dealer won anyway, I thought I must have miscounted. Then about ten hands later they did it again, they got a J,2,A,4 and 6. It's not possible to repeat this reliably but over about 30 minutes of playing I had this happen 5 times at Gammorah.

2) Ultra Luxe chip exchange, when turning in chips for NCR dollars they take the chips but you don't get any NCR dollars.

3) Ultra Luxe - I was dealt two K of Diamonds, I split and my second hand was a K of D and A of S but it didn't register as Blackjack nor did it register as 21 because I lost against 20 for the dealer. I've only had this hand twice and both times the second hand didn't register as Blackjack. The second time was at The Tops and it was a Queen and Ace.

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1130833-bug-list/page__st__60__p__16576778__fromsearch__1&#entry16576778 4) Ok, I'm still getting the crash to white screen. I said it before but I say it again, the game hasn't actually crashed. It's still running. If I hit F5 it quick saves, I then Alt+Tab out and close the game then restart and use continue. Unfortunately when it does it just after trading it's hard to save in the middle of an NPC dialogue box. EDIT: As a side, this happens a lot more often when interacting with workbenches, gun press, bartering, containers, etc. but only if something comes to or goes from my inventory.

This is what it looks like -

http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc94/Elcardil/FONV.jpg, it's actually a 1920x1080 screen but I shrunk it a little to reduce image file size.

My new DxDiag after the nVidia 260.99 drivers, I put it in spoiler tags so as not to take up the whole page.

5) I had a Stormchaser hat that was broken and when I bought 2 other Stormchaser hats they didn't appear in my inventory but their weight did. When I dropped the broken hat the other 2 appeared and when I picked up the broken one the other 2 disappeared again. You can keep this up all day if you are that way inclined. Basically I had to throw the broken one away because it couldn't be fixed due to it hiding any unbroken hats.

6) When fixing the food processor in the NCR compound right next to New Vegas, if you go back with the exact required items it comes up saying you don't have all the items. It requires a bunch of items where the last one is a single pot, if you hold 2 Pots it accepts it but only uses 1 of the Pots.

Oh, I forgot one in my last post. No screenshot anyway as it's an audio bug.

Sometimes NPCs' voices will skip a few lines of their scripted dialog and then quickly move on to the next bit of dialog. I end up missing some if I can't read fast enough to catch up. The only specific NPC I can remember with this bug is the BoS weapons/armor dealer, and I think it only happened once with her. I have a vague memory of it happening more than once with someone on the streets of Westside, if that's any help. Haven't tried repeating the bug yet as I rarely have a save right before I talked to the person.

I'll throw in my 2 cents. I've been having major issues trying to get Raul's Vaquero Outfit. I know you have to speak with three individuals. Loyal, Corporal Sterling, and Ranger Andy. I talk to the first two and after Raul gets stuck in one location for about 5 minutes (i.e. I use wait for a few hours) he'll talk to me about his past. However, after I talk to Ranger Andy, nothing will happen. Raul won't open up more or even do the same stand in one place for a few minutes. I need this last discussion to get the Vaquero Outfit, but he won't divulge any more information.

Not really. The Devs know that there is a thread called "Bug List". If you look up at the right hand top corner there is a little box with a button called "Search". I you type "Bug List" into the box and click on "Search" it's the first thread in the list.
