Bug List

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 4:34 pm

The Devs do read these boards and using one thread to report bugs makes it easier for them to address issues as they can find them easier.

Please report bugs that you have that are repeatable. I say that because sometimes this game will just have a glitch and reloading an earlier save will solve this. You may never see the issue again. For example, I lost a Companion one time and could not get them back. I loaded an earlier save and this companion has never been lost again. Is there a bug there? Maybe. As other's have lost companions too.

However I could not repeat the issue so I am not sure what to report on this. So, if you find a problem, see if you can get it to repeat and offer up any symptoms.

Also, if you are running any mods at all, that can contribute to weird in game issues so those will need to be listed.

Here is the first thread on this

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1122442-grimhounds-pc-bug-list-ever-growing/

All other threads that report Bugs will be closed and and directed to use this thread. If we put bug reports all over the place, they may get overlooked.

Previous thread here: http://forums.bethso...t-ever-growing/

These are for the most part my personally encountered bugs.

This post will be updated.

* Trudy gives you discount (or discount dialogue) even before you actually do anything to help Goodsprings.
* Workbench list breaks when accessed.
-Another account. http://forums.bethso...-workbench-bug/

* Caravan does not give any reward. Betting system broken.
-Patched.

* A Giant Radscorpion near Goodsprings returned to full health when killed.
-Happened once. As of 10/20/2010 the anomaly has yet to repeat itself.
-May be related to the Nightkin bug posted 10/25/2010 3:02 AM EST.

* Objects not loading successfully in the world.
- Dead Courier NPC in Primm failed to load until game was reloaded.
-NCR items in Searchlight failed to load.
-Various static corpse objects failed to load in Scorpion Gulch.
-Disappear again on subsequent loads.
-Appears to be a global issue rather than isolated to areas.
-This is one of the most frequent and game-breaking issues I've encountered.

* When assaulting the NCR prison, theft of Powder Ganger supplies results in karma loss. (bug?)

* Game deletes session saves when crashing. (uncommon)
-When it crashes, it always rolls back Auto and Quicksaves. Make actual saves to get around this issue. Make them frequently.

-Patched.

(10/20/2010 10:02 AM EST)
* The Lead Belly perk seems to not work for water drank from water sources and instead only on consumable items.
-Can anyone second this? I tried the perk and a +5 Health/+5 Radiation fountain was still +5/+5 after taking it.

(10/22/2010 12:23 PM EST)
* The Cowboy Repeater has an issue where it can lock up firing, loading, weapon switching, Pipboy activation, etc. It leaves you only able to move until it resolves.
-There are reports of this happening with other weapons including shotgun variants and the grenade launcher. Unable to personally confirm at this time.
-Confirmed as of 11:36 AM EST, 10/26/2010.

(10/22/2010 2:18 PM EST)
* The entries on Mayor Steyn's Terminal in the Nipton Town Hall are mislabeled in reverse order.

(10/25/2010 3:02 AM EST)
* The floor in Walking Box Cavern glitches in the far room. (visual)

* The Nightkin you kill in Novac returns to life after a period of time and becomes a static NPC with no instructions.

-I had originally stated that the NPC respawned. This was an incorrect choice of words. The corpse is returned to its default state as an NPC.

* Corpses occasionally deny inventory access until moved with [z].

(10/25/2010 6:18 AM EST)
* Neutral NPCs will open fire on ED-E randomly.
-Just happened. They started firing at it for some reason at the 188 Trade Post. Unprovoked.

(10/26/2010 8:56 AM EST)
-Just happened again in the Vikki & Vance over in Primm.

(10/25/2010 6:59 AM EST)
*NPCs of hostile factions reset to neutral. Unsure if this is a bug or if factions are meant to calm down after a while.
(10/26/2010 9:00 AM EST)
-They seem to cycle back and forth. In my game the Powder Gang is again hostile after being neutral.

(10/25/2010 8:39 AM EST)
* When cycling different ammunition types with the Cowboy Repeater and certain shotguns, changing ammo twice will result in an instant full reload of the ammo selected.
-Seems to affect any weapon with individual reloading rather than magazine reloading.

(10/26/2010 5:51 AM EST)
* Companions do not use better weapons when they are given to them.
-I'm unsure if this if a bug of if NPC companions can only use default weapons, but someone posted it and I can confirm.
-Several sources confirm this is a bug.

(10/26/2010 10:41 AM EST)
* When you help the NCR retake the prison, there is no event resolution. Meyers remains locked in the same bump speech as when the NCR is invading, thus making it impossible to complete My Kind Of Town by buying his pardon. Alarms continue indefinitely.
(10/30/2010 9:41 AM EST)
-'I Fought The Law' appears to have no parameters to actually finish the quest. Currently it is impossible to get a positive ending for the prison.

(10/26/2010 11:01 AM EST)
* Buying doubles of cards you already possess from merchants will cause the game to crash.
-Seems to happen more when you buy them among a group of items. I have no idea how this works.
-This has been reported previously in this thread by others. I've gotten the chance to repeatedly test and confirm.
-Having multiple instances of the same cards in your inventory seems to cause definite crashes when changing zones.

-To fix this temporarily, make sure you don't have multiple instances of the same playing cards in your inventory.

(10/27/2010 7:07 AM EST)
* Enemies become lodged in the ground, falling through the map on death.
-The most common occurrence of this that I've seen has involved the various types of scorpion enemies. They become lodged in the ground and vertically slide around tipped backwards.
-I've also had reports from a friend of mine that in her game NPCs fell through the map, forcing her to start the game over.

(10/27/2010 9:13 AM EST)
* When Veronica wears T-51b Powered Armor, her Power Fist visually glitches on her model.

(10/27/2010 9:22 AM EST)
* Undefined item/inventory glitch.
-Multiple instances of one item merge into a single entity.
-Acts strangely if you try to remove it or add it back to your inventory.
-See following posts for reference.

There is a dialogue issue with Victor. At least for me there was.Though it doesn't seem to have any negative effects!

I got his Novac dialogue while we http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/jasonsteele/Game%20Stuff/ScreenShot11.jpg.

Super minor but I thought I'd mention for the devs.

Copy/pasted from first thread in case it gets missed:

Here's some things I've noticed in about 3 hours of gameplay:

-Sunny's dog (Cheyene) eyes were floating beside it's head for the first tutorial missions. After completion they returned. http://i.imgur.com/iJ1Av.jpg.
-Victor, after having talked to him for the first time, stopped "driving" around, and instead was glitching, or teleporting, his way back to his house. Basically he would look like he was standing still, but he was teleporting about 5-10 feet in the direction he wanted to go.
-On my way to Primm, I encountered a random NPC who was also doing the same "teleporting" (for lack of a better word) in the direction she was going. I couldn't interact with her however. She was wearing a white shirt and tan pants, her name wasn't showing up, sadly.
-The deputy you rescue in Primm was floating with his head stuck in the ceiling of the casino across the street from the Bison. This is after I rescued him and told him to get out of there. I could talk to him just fine, he was just glitched in the ceiling some how. After I left that casino, he came out behind me. Thought I'd make mention of it.

Possible bugs, or weird game design:

-Looting the Powder Ganger's West camp, you lose karma. Not sure how it's considered "bad" when they are trying to kill you, but whatever.

Technical issues:

-Quick save and auto save get erased if the game crashes, or you exit the game manually. The manual saves seem to work fine so far.
-When using HDR and AA, white and black squares flash on screen randomly. This is with a Nvidia card (GTX 480). Turning off HDR or AA fixes the problem.

go to train disarm bomb
message that you disarmed the bomb successfully appears
leave train
Train drives away and blows up
Happens 100% of the time.

ED-E disappeared

A. I only have one save
B. ED-E was holding a lot of stuff
C. I will not play a game till you guys figure out how to bring my ed-e and all his stuff back

D. it happened like this.

ED-E = followers upgrade
ED-E + Veronica in group
Stop by the brotherhood of steel shop put some stuff on ed-e
Go down to the second floor turn in the second quest that the BoS leader gives you and get the third one to repair the filters
Go talk to Lenavo about doing the quest to restore the filters
ED-E gone forever.

Moveto ED-E orginal puts me out side moonshiners place where gourds body is
Move to follower / bos ed-e puts me in a box room with no doors

VIctor running up to me three times now asking while randomly exploring the wasteland giving me the dialogue to ask him if he seen which way benny went even though I haven't even been to the strip

There is a bug that is occurring for a number of PC users which is essentially that after a certain point in the Come Fly With Me quest line saves taken beyind that point all fail to load. The point seemed to be around the time when you report to then head ghoul that all is ready to go.

It was confirmed by several people and the work around seems to be just to avoid the quest and saves seem to be fine.

Losing karma for taking things from people you do not side with such as the legion base in goodspring why should I lose karma for stealing from them after I just killed them all and gained karma for doing so?

A couple of Caravan bugs on PC:

Cards that are purchased from vendors are not added to the Caravan deck, but remain loose in the Misc. inventory. Probably true for looted cards as well, but I haven't looted any yet.

The deck-building interface jumps around. The card that will move up and down is not always the larger one in the middle.

Shotguns fire multiple projectiles. The DT of the target should be subtracted from each individual projectile. This happens if you fire without VATS. If you fire using VATS the DT is subtracted from the total weapon damage. Established through testing with the console. Turned off combat AI, set enemies health to 200, set various damage thresholds, use getavinfo to check damage after normal hit, reset health, repeat. Within VATS DT's of 0, 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 42 took the same damage with a 20ga, which has 7 projectiles, as DT's of 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 outside VATS.

Companions not using better weapons is not a bug, they need ammo. Losing companions is repeatable in the brewery up in the mountains near nigels pawn shop. Ed-e gets stuck at the top of the stairs. If Ed-e is first and centered on the door, you can push it there, other companions can't get past. Seems to be due to the lack of a landing at the top of the stairs. Ed-e also gets stuck a number of other places, but I've yet to see it disappear. AI Turned off on Veronica once on me. She just stood there at Ft McCarran. Lost her, went back in, she comes running from the terminal. went out the door, she's not there, go back in and she's standing there at the door with the AI not running.

I'll tack on my own batch of finds:

Updated Oct. 27

#1
There are certainly bigger fish to fry (many of them already in the pan - sincere bravo to you guys!), but it's worth tossing in. Just a typo from the Repconn HQ pedestal by the Protect-O-Bot (object "It's Got Wheels!", 000e8602 - screenshot linked below).
http://www.phreque.com/_tempor/FNV/npe01.jpg

#2
When talking to Private Ackerman after rescuing him, his voiceover asset ("Thanks for getting me out of there") clips badly on "Thanks"; sounds like digital clipping.
http://www.phreque.com/_tempor/FNV/npe02.wmv (.wmv, 623kb)

#3
When perusing campfire recipes, if you mouse over a recipe in the right pane that also has a scrollbar, focus becomes locked on that frame. Moving back to the list of recipes does not update the right frame with recipe effect and required components info.
http://www.phreque.com/_tempor/FNV/npe03.wmv (.wmv 1.5MB)

#4
The mouseover-responsive area of the left and right pane is misaligned (stretched far to the right) making it confusing/behave oddly.
http://www.phreque.com/_tempor/FNV/npe04.wmv (.wmv, 1.34MB)

#5
Workbench menus cause click sound looping when hovering in the right pane.
http://www.phreque.com/_tempor/FNV/npe05.wmv (.wmv, 1.73MB)

#6 Hair disappears underwater (happened in Fallout 3 as well)
http://www.phreque.com/_tempor/FNV/npe06.wmv (.wmv, 3.47MB)

I have a bug that only started after the 2nd patch was released. When I start the game now I can only play for 5-10 minutes before the sound stutters for about 2 seconds then the screen goes black and the computer is totally unresponsive until I do a manual reboot (holding in power button BTW I play for 12 hours with 0 bugs before the patches). There is no special way to reproduce it just happen every time I play after 5-10 minutes of playing. On another note I’m completely disgusted with the way Bethesda has been handling the problem. Do they think they can pretend nothing is wrong and it will just go away? By not tell the community who has went out and spend $50+ on this game what is going on they are alienating the community as a whole. I’m not asking for an insta-fix I just want them to acknowledge that there is a huge problem that need to be addressed but hey it’s their reputation that is going in the gutter!

What is the latest game version after having applied all patches?

1.1.1.271 is the latest N.A. (At least.) version.

CCNA, you might want to sticky this thread if this has to be the ultimate bug list.

EDIT: lukankata; you beat me to it, great minds think alike.

-When using HDR and AA, white and black squares flash on screen randomly. This is with a Nvidia card (GTX 480). Turning off HDR or AA fixes the problem.

This was fixed by the latest nvidia drivers (260.99)

Ok, I will copy my bugs in this thread as well:

- In the bartering menu, the name of the seller is not displayed at the top right.

- In the crafting/recipe menu, moving the mouse over the ingredients causes an irritating buzz sound.

- when you first meet Jason Bright in "come fly with me", you can ask "what are these demons you speak of" before Jason even mentions these demons.

- I fast traveled to the Gibson scrapyard in Novac, and Old Lady Gibs suddenly ran off with one of her dogs. She sounded scared, but she wasn't hostile. Luckily I caught up with her and after I spoke with her, she was calm again and walked back to the scrapyard....?!?

- On the road from Novac to the rocket factory, the rock cliff next to the fence on the left side of the bridge has a huge gap at the base.

- "Come fly with me": I spoke to Chris AFTER the rockets flew away. I convinced him to go live in Novac but just before he leaves he says; "Ok, you launch the rockets!"

- When using the intercom at the very bottom of the repconn facility in the "come fly with me" quest when the first line spoken sounds like it is from the intercom while the next two sound like the guy is in the room with you and finally the last line sounds like it is through the intercom again. (stole the text from gibmonkey, but I encountered this error myself)

- Johnson Nash in Primm says something like: "deputy Beagle eavesdropped while he was with the Powder Gangers". past tense.
But this was before I freed deputy Beagle from the Gangers.

- Cheyenne's eyes floating outside his head during the first Gecko hunting mission in Goodsprings.

- When my male character gets hurt, it sounds like the female hurt-sound is playing.

- VDSG Reputation tutorial text: spelling mistake: "peform"

- Scorpion got stuck in the ground on the slope to 'Nipton general store' / An ant got stuck inside the corpse of a scorpion!

- Saw a guy shooting at some wild dogs.... while he was standing 10 feet up in the air. LOL.

ive found a bug/glitch, whatever you care to call it. it stops full completion of a side mission...

**** spoilers ****

i encounter captain parker at aerotech at night sleeping in a bunk at the barracks. he requests i find out if keith is cheating.

i talk to keith, again at night in his house, i speech challenge and win and find out he is cheating.

i go back to captain parker who has returned to his bunk, i wake him and tell him ive found out. he rewards me and asks if i would like to accompany him on the arrest. i say yes.
captain parker then just stands there and does nothing at all.

i leave the tent. he does nothing.

i enter the tent, and wait for a couple hours. captain parker now walks outside. i follow...
captain parker is now outside walking around and sitting on benches. talking with him does nothing except have him ask if ive found the missing family yet (a different side quest)

no arrest is ever made. ive let days go by ingame and still nothing.

i dont like having that incomplete in my list of things to do.

================================

another bug is to do with the room items purchase menu in the lucky 38 casino.

the hit boxes for items you want to purchase are way off and you have to really fish around with your mouse until something highlights.

In Ranger Station Charlie there is a mine which explodes whenever the game is reloaded (if the save was made in the building) even though the save was made long after it has already exploded.

I've made a short video illustrating what I'm talking about. edit: Nevermind, download won't work...

Another minor bug: http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/8514/floating.jpg.

Just keeping a running tally of everything I've found that could use soem polish so far, my previous posts aside, here's
some quirks that need ironing out.

Tumbleweeds in certain locations ( Like Novac) don't blow around as they should and instead are stuck in one spot and can't
be moved even by running into them. It's like hitting a lightpole.

The lights from the Lucky 38 tower don't always illuminate at night when you at a very far distance, such as looking toward the strip from the goodsprings graveyard.
Exiting the game and reloading the save can fix this, and in that case it's a bug.

Surplus ammo doesn't seem to be recognized as an ammo type until you drop it on the ground and pick it back up.

Samual Kerr at 188 Trading post doesn't speak any dialogue when you click goodbye. He stands there for several seconds before returning you to normal gameplay.

After getting a leg crippled by stepping on a landmine or
some other hazard the footstep sound I normally hear when walking disappears. If I straff to the left or right I get
the sound but walking forward theirs nothing. This appears to only happen in 3rd person mode. In first person the
sound plays. reloading does not fix this issue

When you swim on the surface of the water in 3rd person you seem more to hover over it than be moving through it.

The "Water Consumed" doesn't update as expected after drinking water, either from bottles or puddles.

Weapon Reloading Bug (can't perform actions after weapon reload) .357 Mag, Cowboy Repeater, Trail Carbine, etc

From this thread: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1130873-reloading-bug-cant-perform-actions-after-weapon-reload/

Bug: When you prompt a reload on the aforementioned weapons, or the reload occurs automatically, make sure you are moving and standing. When the weapon has finished fully reloading you will be unable to take any actions for about 1-2 seconds.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=six43IATJoM (As you can see, standing still and reloading doesn't cause any issues. At 0:27 you can hear me spam clicking just as before, but the game is locked up.)

Solution: Stop moving to reload, or discontinue use of such weapons.

Character in video is fresh off doc's table on a fresh install with 0 mods. I consoled in a .357 and 100 bullets.

Level 1
Strength: 4
Perception: 4
Endurance: 4
Charisma: 4
Intelligence: 10
Agility: 10
Luck: 7

Traits include Small Frame and Four-Eyes.

Note:
These weapons all have the unique characteristic of being able to be fired while reloading the weapon, perhaps this is part of the cause of this lockup?
After a brief amount of testing I have found that if you crouch while moving and reload this bug does not occur. (Added 10/28)

Yes, I saw this with several other NPC's as well. You click goodbye, and the dialogue text is "...". I guess this is some sort of default 'end of dialogue' text when nothing is specified...

Reportedly, entering Vault 34 is another potential savegame breaker. Haven't encountered it yet, but I doubt this bug is unique to "Come Fly With Me" and Vault 34. Serious problem.

NCR Hostile for no apparent reason.

Walking to the gate taht leads out of New Vegas (where the Lux Casino is) I passed a NCR NPC with no issue.

When passed the gate go a short ways where near the NCR guardhouse is and on sight the NCR there all attack.

Checked my gear, no faction items on. Checked Cass companion, no faction items on.

I've had random events like this before and still don't understand why it happens. NCR just goes ape for no seeming reason.

Once was in the subway. They attacked first. Killed them all but a few that had run away and then those that ran away turned non hostile
and all was peachy with them afterwards.

This last even listed above has I think broken my game cause I can't exit vegas proper without passing them that way and if I to respond to THEIR attack
the GD robots go ape and attack me.

This games faction bs is broken. The only way I consider this game playable now (at 36 hours into the savegame) is if some modder can totally STRIP
all faction elements. Yah, that will ruin quests here and there and mess up the dreamiy devs story ideas.

But the sad fact is they were incompetent in the design of said faction system it is loaded with issues.
UNtil they fix it, the game is unplayable.
