Constant Crash to Desktops

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 10:02 pm

I will try that next and post results in a few minutes once I'm done uploading this video.
Bullet do you have Powerdvd or nero?

I got powerdvd installed, and I am having the same random CTD's.

Might be where the trouble is, if you have either of the codec's.

Interesting as to where this thread has led. I also have two monitors and will disable one to see if crashes continue. I would also like to note that the fix posted under the patch 1.1 thread does not work(audio settings to 44100, 24 bit).

I know Oblivion had some issues with codecs, so another try could be to uninstall Nero (and also PowerDVD if it does not help), to see if this could help.

Yeah, I'm going to try to uninstall PowerDVD.

The only problem is, we can't report back before like 30-45min, cause the CTDs aren't that frequent.

They are very frequent for me. Sometimes between 15 - 30 minutes.

Anyone else experiencing this - you're playing and then the game just closes? No explanation, it just randomly closes and you're back to desktop?

It's unplayable in its current state.

It appears to be a sound issue.

In win7 go to Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound Pick your sound device that is set as default, click Properties. Go to the Advanced tab and make sure the 'Default Format' it is set to 44.1khz 16bit.<
It workz fine for me now :3

And after disabling the second monitor, rebooting, and closing down UltraMon, I still got the crash.

The post stated to use 24bit (studio quality) but I will try the 16bit to see what happens. Ill post with results later.

It's nothing to do with sound, I can play the game fine for around 15-30 minutes and then it crashes. It is NOT the sound issue it is completely random.

Posting DXDiag information is completely useless too, the issue is the game NOT DirectX.

It seems to be alleviated slightly by closing Fraps, but still it crashes after a random amount of time.

I've been humming along for six or seven hours, and _just_ started seeing a CTD in the "FrostBite Passage"

I can 90% for sure it has _something_ to do with issuing "Follow Me" command after a "Wait Here" command to an NPC (in my case, a stray dog).

After about 15 trials, every time I issue "Follow Me" command, the game 100% of the time CTD within 1 minute. If I DO NOT issue the "follow me" command, the game 100% of the time does _not_ CTD.

So, I have to leave poor fluffums in the frostbite passage to freeze to death, methinks.

Anyone confirm?

Game CTD's for me too. Anytime between 30minutes and 2hours into the game, it seems to happen anywhere at anytime (as far as i can tell). No error message, the game just instantly closes.

Intel Core i7 2600 @ 3.4Ghz
Nvidia GTX560Ti latest BIOS, Latest nvidia beta drivers.
8GB RAM, but 2GB used as a RAMDisc, effectively 6GB for windows and applications.
GPU never gets above 55c in game
CPU never gets above 50c in game.

No other games have issues.

Tried all the sound fixes, nothing works.

Confirmed: it has nothing to do with sound. Setting sound to 44100 16bit did nothing either. Crashed sometime later.

Anyone confirm?

Anyone close to an NPC follower that can try the above?

(EDIT: addded 'follower', correction: Bonechill passage)

Maybe it's Fraps, because I am using Fraps too.
What about Xfire? Anyone using that while gaming?

For me, it's been 2X on looting, just after a heated bandit battle.

Scratch the whole 'npc follower' thing. Looks like Bonechill Passage itself might cause CTD? I'll avoid it for now :)

I wonder if there is some element inside this environment that may be causing it... Where are you guys at that you're seeing the CTDs?

I think it isn't something with programs or drivers. I′ve got crash game depending on FPS. More fps = more crashes in shorter time. Atleast for me. :brokencomputer:
FX 8120 - 4,2Ghz
HD6990 + HD6970
8GB 1866Mhz
Win 7 X64
Catalyst 11.10 WHQL + atiumdag.dll file in the skyrim folder.

I also crash frequently and my last session I averaged a CTD every 15 minutes. Funny thing is the first time I played the game I managed to pull out a session of continuous 2 hours without crashes but the fist hour was full of crashes then a steady game session.

The crash is random because it doesn't occur when I do something specific. Sometimes it happens in town, sometimes in a dungeon, sometimes in the wilderness. Sometimes I'm walking/traveling sometimes I'm standing still.

I think the game is simply unstable.

Or, there's something in the game's background triggering these random crashes. I doubt it's auto save... it's so random that it's hard to predict what causes it.

My basic specs:
Windows XP SP3
N'Vidia 560 GTX
4 GB RAM

Playing through STEAM <-- maybe that's the cause of the problem?

This.

Btw. You HAVE to play through steam on PC, so that can't be the reason.
