Constant Crash to Desktops

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 9:48 pm

Are you serious??

Even if I purchase a physical copy (DVD) I still have to go through steam??

Well, am glad I am used to steam anyway.

I really want this bug to get squashed, or a fix found. I'm finding it hard to get into the game when i have to hammer quick save knowing the game will crash at any moment.

Yeah, it really ruins the experience ... :/

If the game was a bit more stable (I don't care about glitches..Those are fine, even if they ruin a whole quest line ect). But Bethesda should at least have learned to release a stable game by now. -_-

That and a not [censored] UI..Well, the game would just be better. xD My only complaints so far, but pretty big ones as well. :P

I find my game crashes every time the dragon lands on the Tower, and the guard yells to get everyone to safety. I'm reinstalling it now, and hopefully it will have the 1.1 update along with it. But i've seen the part with the dragon on the tower for an hour (I kid you not. My game time is 64 minutes, and its been nothing but the dragon on the tower...)

I been getting a few CTD's also and I did do the sound change thingy. I am running game on a Toshiba Qosmio laptop and I am well above min specs to run this... Until its fixed, will just save often like I did in Oblivion.

Never had any CTD until now... Played since activation and all was good and I started to crash mid game for an hour ago or so. Just CTD, was running around doing nothing both times.

I've been getting it as well. No error messages at all, anywhere from a few minutes to a couple of hours. Just BooM! Right to the desktop.

i have pretty mucht he same issue but i have yet to even start the game, i open it up and the second i try to click new game it immediatly CTDs with no error or crash message. i got my copy through steam which svcks cuz i really dont wanna try a reinstall or anything, tried the usual by changing sound user prefs etc same crash same place every time, dunno if its related to these other CTDS anyone else have this problem or something?

also idk about anyone else but i have always had the WORST time with bethesda games on the first run through, have had to call support for every game since oblivion, they really need to check their games out before releasing its totally wacksauce

I have 2 copies of the game running here.

Both on windows 7 pro 64 bit.

System 1: Q6600, GTX285, 8 gig ram .... one crash so far, everything appears to work fine
System 2: Core i7980x, GTX580, 12 gig ram ... crashes every 15 - 20 minutes to desktop. no information or warnings, just boom gone. Tried the sound change to no avail.

Very frustraing as my kids system is working fine and mine just dies for no reason. It's not a hardware issue as I have tested through different components and have run other games that really tax the system.

Both systems are using the same drivers for the video card (lastest ones from EVGA).

My only thought on this is potentially the auto save, going to set that to every 5 minutes and see what happens.

Don't think its auto save, since I CTD'd a lot of times right after waiting or sleeping - auto save happens as you about to sleep/wait. And the "Every X min auto save", I am pretty sure i read other people tried turning that off already to no avail.

Well altering the sound quality didn't do anything.

It actually worked for me... I lowered it to the 24 bit 44100 and it let me at least get to the title menu

I had constant crashes every 5-15 minutes, after all else had failed I thought why not try the LAA 4GB patcher and what do you know, haven't had a single crash in hours.

Please bear in mind you must have a 64bit system and the required amount of RAM.

http://www.ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php

If that doesn't work, no idea what else will.

-PS: Just incase of errors point it so TESV.exe not the launcher.

ok so having now tried to Audio fix that was suggested it did work in my case, here i wasn't even able to play the game. only the highest audio setting 24bit 192000hz causes my game to crash before reaching gameplay. i have tested all the alternative settings and the game works fine, idk if it the same issue as the CTDS the are occurring in game. for the record my 2nd best audio setting of 24bit 96000hz works fine in the game so i dont have to sacrifice quality or anything if that helps anyone else out

edit: i recant that last part, crashed only about 30 secs in on the 2nd best setting

Getting crashes when I try and load my save, any save. Instant CTD.
Same thing happens when trying to make a new game.
Tried reseating GPU, clearing cache and temp files, reinstalling, sound fix
was N/A due to my sound already being the 44.1khz 16-bit. Tried compatibility mode for XP and Vista.
Tried running in all graphics settings. Windowed mode etc. Even tried the 4gb patcher.
Nothing is working.

Any ideas?

I ve seen other posts on here about crashing before it even starts, well thats also my problem ,everyone says the audio change fixes it, not mine ive tried everything and cant get the game to start. Running ati 5870 with current drivers, i dont know if this matters , im using a g35 headset and my audio sttings will only go to 16 bit 44.1 not 24 bit. I want to play the game so bad. I have the cd version. Would appreciate the help.

That sounds like a bugger. If a full reinstall of Skyrim with all the ini files deleted didn't fix the problem then it sounds hardware related.

On another note 4GB patcher should really only fix games crashing after a certain amount of gameplay. Well at least it did for me.

On yet another note, do any of crash on start up chaps who have tried the sound fix have soundcards? As my soundcard overrides windows settings and had a seperate sample rate option in it's control panel that I had to also set to 44.1KHz. Worth a shot.

That sounds like a bugger. If a full reinstall of Skyrim with all the ini files deleted didn't fix the problem then it sounds hardware related.

Played the game on three separate occasions for a total of 5 hours. Never any crashes.
Came home tonight, went to go play. Crash.
Don't see how it's hardware related when no hardware or software has changed, at all.
