Dawnguard and Future DLC Discussion - Thread #29

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 5:07 am

I hope they add some more wildlife into Skyrim. Considering that it has a nordic/sub-arctic climate, I can see following animals appear:

Moose
Boar
Lynx (Bobcat)
Pheasants (there already is pheasant meat, but no living ones...)
Tundra Wolf (a large subspecies of gray wolves, lives in Northern Scandinavia and Russia)
Wolverines
Badgers (Eurasian badgers)
Common Mice
and a lot more.

Eurasian badgers. What about Honey badgers?

I don't know whether it has been told earlier, but I read recently the book about http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:The_Great_War_%28book%29, and it is said that "The Thalmor announced that they had restored the moons using previously unknown Dawn Magicks"

Do you think it has something to do with Dawnguard? (I edited the 12th point in my list in page 1 to mention it.)

Ive got some ideas for vampirism. What if vampires could sacrifice their health with a spell like healing and put the health points into magic instead only the health points go through a multiplier so that the vampire gets more magic than loss of health. Like:

Level 1 Vampirism 10 health points x 1 = 10 magic points

Level 2 Vampirism 10 health points x 2 = 20 magic points

Level 3 Vampirism 10 health points x 3 = 30 magic points

Level 4 Vampirism 10 health points x 4 = 40 magic points

Another power I thought to go in conjunction with this ability is a sort of passive power only active a short while after health has been sacrificed that increases the damage of destruction spells or the effectiveness of all spells really. Its just this dark power that only gets stronger the deeper you are into vampirism. Alot can be done with this but heres an example:

Level 1 Vampirism Dark Frenzy - Frost spells now freeze oponents at 20% health/ Dark Frenzy Last 10 seconds

Level 2 Vampirism Dark Frenzy - Frost spells now freeze oponents at 25% health/ Dark Frenzy Last 20 seconds

Level 3 Vampirism Dark Frenzy - Frost spells now freeze oponents at 30% health/ Dark Frenzy Last 30 seconds

Level 4 Vampirism Dark Frenzy - Frost spells now freeze oponents at 35% health/ Dark Frenzy Last 40 seconds

Dont take this idea and write it off as just another stupid fan who wants an overpowerful vampire, this can go a lot of ways and doesnt have to be for vampires that was just a way to introduce the idea. It could just as easily be used to raise stamina and power melee attacks so that maces and hammers ignore even more armor, axes cause more bleeding and blades critical is way more likely to happen. The powers dont have to be leveled in stages like the vampires it could be set like a perk bonus is and improved with more perks.
The only reason I say this is a bad idea is only because I think they have made vampires too much of a Mage/Assassin type character as it is, and they should make it so that any class can benefit from being a vampire, like in Oblivion.

Like previously somone suggested that we capture and rebuild forts and the like using resources/coins i like this idea of rebuilding a fort and then converting it into a hold which you become a jarl of which i like alot :D

My idea is to expand on marriges more by making it possible to have your own children which after many game months will grow into teens and finally advlts.Since children in Tamriel always take their mothers features (as said in the lore books i forget its name),they also take some features of the fathers aswell but not always.
This could be fun as your offspring would have dragons blood aswell and you could teach them shouts and they could absord the souls of defeated dragons much like you can to gain power. Also i think depending how you teach them while they grow(like teaching them combat with certain weapons/spells etc) they will grow and gain majors in those schools and abilities. Also would be nice if you could teach them politics etc and they could rule your holds while ur off adventuring or join you in adventures  .

so much potential in a family expansion that could give not just normal casual players fun but also amazing roleplaying experiences.

Could the events of Dawnguard have been announced much longer before the DLC than we have thought?

Do you remember the very first teaser of Skyrim? The one of the announcement...

In this trailer, one can hear : "When the truth finally dawns, it dawns in fire!"

Could it be possible that this sentence refers to what will happen in Dawnguard? Just a frenzy hypothesis, I am eager to speculate on anything, as I have no new piece of information :D

Sorry if I didn't read all the 29 threads but Is there any update or news about Dawnstar that I may have missed since the first announcement?

I hope the DLC adds new spells, especially ones that should have been included in the first place. Like Open Lock.

Or maybe conjured armor.

because they live in Africa (and possibly other warm places), not really an animal you would find in a cold land like Skyrim

Because I want to finish a fight with a Dragon, and the 'Hired Thugs' that always seem to come along shortly after the Dragon, and barely survive long enough to have a sliver of life left, only to die by being mauled by a Lynx or a wolverine...

Because I'd be able to handle it better...

I cannot find anything to back it up, but I could have sworn that I read somewhere that the Throat of the World was once a Volcano.

I actually think this DLC won't be centered around Dawnstar, it would be a bit pointless... IF they're gonna center a DLC around an already existing place Helgen or Winterhold would make much more sense. And the changes are big that we'll be getting new landscapes..

Personally, I really don't think that the DLC will have much of anything to do with Dawnstar. It might, but I think it's going to refer more to a completely different location.

Like a return to Solstheim.

Someone just tweeted that they just booked a 30-minute hands-on session with Bethesda for the Dawnguard demo at E3. We'll be hearing more soon...well, kind of soon! :tes:

Allright some people have claimed that we need to have some sort of ship to travel to an island where the dlc will be. But others would like to have some new landmass that would be in Skyrim itself.

So how about you could purchase a boat which you could decorate? That way you can have a home (the boat) in lets say the docks of Dawnstar.
So the home would be in Skyrim and you can take it with you as you travel to the new dlc area.

Just something that popped up in my mind, thought I might share.

(Side note: Would also really like an arena where you need to fight npc's or so in a preset match (like brawls or so )

Your opinions?

This will sound a little off topic, but I would like this type of thing to be in-game if what I am about to say was just a weird coincident.

So I left Whiterun and walked to the west on the road, and then transformed into a werewolf so I could travel faster. As I got to the abandoned burned down house near the road there were some dead Reveler bodies so I started feeding on one when a Boethiah cultist attacked, and then I killed. I waited so I could loot the book he has to start her quest, and then I turned back into a werewolf. This is where the weird part comes in, so I feed on the Boethiah cultist, and then I went to feed on one of the other Reveler bodies, but before I could I got changed back into human form. So my question is did Boethiah make me change back into human form because I fed on her cultist? Has this happened to anyone else?

If this weird experience was just a bug or something, I hope Bethesda puts this into a DLC, where Daedric Princes will interfere in your actions if you do something to upset them.

snip

I think it is a bug, I was a Werewolf attacking the Thalmor Embassy and I turned back into my ol' self in a few minuets.

That is supposed to happen, but what happened to me was right as I changed into a werewolf I fed on the cultist, and then 2 seconds later I changed back into a human.

Ah I see. Maybe Hircine didn't like you that you were feeding on a Daedric Prince worshiper? :teehee:

But really, that is odd.

It was very strange, and made me think did Bethesda really implement something like this because that is amazing. Why would Hircine not like me feeding on a Daedric Prince worshiper that was not his?

is it possible for them to increase the sizes of the cities and add more NPCs in the dlc, like an extension in each major city?

Could be. Closest thing to that happening before is the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Orrery from Oblivion, where is was added on to the Arcane University.

But I am sure it has happened before with another DLC but cannot think of what....

1. Remake the crime punishments
Most everyone would just reload the game rather then experience the feature thus its basically useless. Any feature that can make the game unplayable is a negative feature. Only death should make the game unplayable.
2. Bring a hardcoe mode for Skyrim
Food and water are abundent in skyrim this isn't a wasteland desert but a lush enviroment full of life and sense every single character in the game can summon fire from his hands keeping warm shouldn't be a problem for anyone. The food and water thing was meaningless in New Vegas it be even more meaningless here.

5. Joining the Thalmor
From reading the rising threat it sounds more like the Thalmor cowered in holes while the rest of their people suffered and died then after Martin Septim ended the oblivion crisis they emerged to steal the credit. Being Clever manipulating mages doesn't make them worthy of anything. That aside YOUR DRAGONBORN living proof that Talos Septim was divine there is no reason they wouldn't want you dead.

6. Own a keep, castle, fort or large city
I would love to be able to own my own stronghold. Having a house was never enough for me honestly. I like to decorate my own stronghold with its own defenses, guards, and buying my own large house and decorating it as I see fit. This was also my most favorite thing about morrowind and oblivion where you got to own your own tower or fighter's stronghold. Something like this alot of fans would love to see in Skyrim. Alot of cool buildings inside such as a temple to the divines (or some other entity depending on delights your fancy).
This I can get behind, I have a mage with a hundred thousand gold and nothing to spend it on. My only thought is to buy every spellbook(despite already knowing them) and stock bookshelves to be a magic library.

That is supposed to happen, but what happened to me was right as I changed into a werewolf I fed on the cultist, and then 2 seconds later I changed back into a human.
Certain cutscenes may force you back to human form.

But there was no cutscene, I just transformed, and then fed, and then two seconds later it changed me back into human form. I was a werewolf for a total of 5 seconds maybe, it was strange.

Just to be clear the forced conversation with the possessed corpse of Boethema's cultist does count at a cutscene.

1. I dont think everyone would actually. You murder the emperor...the freaking emperor and you have to pay what like a 2500 gold fine and your free?! Murdering the emperor means "death warrant" because he is the emperor. Alot of people dont think this makes sense and being in the dark brotherhood should mean your going down the path of an outlaw since your constantly murdering people left and right. You should be hunted by bounty hunters and guards every now and then. I would enjoy the thrill and challenge of being chased by guards, killing bounty hunters, and sneaking into cities to avoid the law. Its not a "gameover" routine that your implying. You should atleast have the ability to disguise yourself like wear a hooded cloak and not be noticed by the guards.

2. That doesnt mean there shouldnt still be a hardcoe mode ( or maybe not "hardcoe" mode but a realism mode). Pretty much when your out in the wilderness you have to look for food such as hunting animals or eating vegetables. When your in a city your pretty much going to be safe. Dude Im sure you never use beds, eat food or drink beer in this game yet they add it in the game like you freaking should! Cooking is pointless because even though you get effects that last like an hour I could easily just concoct a potion and get even better effects. Also when your deep inside a dungeon food isnt going to be found anywhere (maybe water mostly) so you may have to stock up on rations to keep yourself from going hungry or thirsty. And Skyrim's northern region is mostly dominated by frozen wasteland with few animals running around that can sustain you. And of course the cold should play a huge effect on how you survive. Also traveling on the road can be tiresome and it would be a good idea to stay at those pointless inns that dot the roads every now and then. It would help the player get deeper into the game rather than just worry about hunting dungeons and collecting loot all day. Your an adventurer, not some immortal being who doesn't go hungry, get thirsty, or not need sleep.

5. Yeah that is my fault. I didnt get into deep detail with the lore like I should so I have to agree with you on that.

6. Who doesnt want a sixy stronghold worth 100000 gp?
