Dawnguard Info and Discussion - Thread #37

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 7:28 pm

Here are some of my ideas I'd like to see hopefully one day. For the weapons I took the liberty of posting a couple of links in case someone doesn't quite understand what kind of weapon I'm talking about or what they look like. Browse to your hearts content.

1. Weapons list
- Armored Claw Gauntlets http://www.trueswords.com/images/prod/c/skull_bones_hand_claw_540.jpg
- pikes
- throwing spears
- Spears
- polearms
- slings (maybe explosive bullets?
- two-bladed swords, axes, and maces ( you hold the hilt of the weapon in the middle and you have a blade, axe or mace on both ends of the hilt) http://www.freewebs.com/norstar1/XL1352.jpg

- flails (spiked maces except the end of it is guarded by a chain so as to swing in an arc formation)
- triple-ball flails http://thevikingweaponsstore.com/images/Triple_Ball_Medieval_Flail.jpg

- Spiked armor and shields (for tackling with sprint)
- throwing knives and darts
( Speedy and quick ranged attacks. Would be great for slow-motion kill cam)
- scimitar http://www.blackgate.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/scimitar.jpg
- set your own traps (aside from runes)
- dual-wield two-handed weapons (slow attack and high stam cost but very high dmg)
- spiked chains and whips

- One-handed crossbows (also called hand crossbows but good for dual-wielding and low damage)
- light crossbow (for fast shooting)
- heavy crossbow ( for slow shooting but high dmg)
- light armor gloves with hidden blades http://www.tqcast.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/ACBLade-TQ.jpg

- Short swords
- blow darts

- flintlock pistols and guns
- rapier (piercing sword like ones for fencing) http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/attachments/requests-341/79828d1271625295-model-rapier-pistol-duel-equipment-rapier.jpg
- throwing axes
- scythes
- To add to alchemy: hand bombs (poison bombs, fire bombs, frost bombs, Shock bombs, Smoke bombs for blind

2. Some new music
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYCWQ8XjBnM&feature=list_related&playnext=1&list=SP9A8E2A44B2E8632B: Baldurs gate music

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PBI0lqwhRE&feature=list_related&playnext=1&list=SPE9FD2D1F173ACEF2: Icewind dale music

Also I would love to see a hardcoe mode added to the game so that I can really feel like I need to survive out in the wilderness. Would love to see the dark brotherhood face mask fixed so that I can feel like a real assassin.

Thank you bethesda!! I hope you will consider some of my ideas. :) :)

In reply to DanielMitchell. Scimitar's are already in Skyrim.

And the Hidden Blade is trademarked and owned by Ubisoft. But who knows. Maybe Ubi and Bethesda could arrange some sort of deal like Bungie did with Team Ninja.

After watching the machinima interview is it safe to say that vampires will summon death hounds as well?

So where is this crap about vampires NOT being attacked at stage 4? This is insulting. When I thought vampires would be overhauled, I did not think they would be butchered.

For my part, I don't think I'll be getting the DLC upon release. I'll wait for it to go on sale.

Having learned that vampire form won't support a first person perspective, the Dawnguard side of the story is all that will be of any use to me. That, combined with an asking price for the DLC that is 33% of that of the base game but provides only about 7% the content of the base game (300 hours for 60 bucks compared to 20 hours DLC for 20 bucks) makes it easy for me to wait.

I'll will get it, though. Eventually. Hopefully on one of Steam's 75% off sales ...

Apparently you can adopt kids in Dawnguard?

Has no specific info, it looks like any sources to this discussion were removed, but if you read the reactions, Nobody is debating it as fact. (IE no Posts that say: Source?)

Wouldn't surprise me. Adoption was one of the things that was shown in gamejam. And there was few things in gamejam that made it into the game such as vampire lords, vampire feedings, and etc.

Yeah. I was just wondering if anyone heard something more about it? If you look at some of the files in the DLC folder introduced in the patches, they have a lot of animations and stuff for Children in the game. The evidence is there, but it could equally be some unique instance.

Soul Cairn is but one of at least two large new landmasses in the game. However, the story will also play out across the Skyrim we all know and love, which is really cool. Said Howard, "You're still going to be exploring the landmass that came with the main game, and then, I want to avoid quantifying, but there are at least two very large new areas. The Soul Cairn is one of them."

Oh my god,That was a suprise! Also this

"Serana lives in a castle called Castle Volkhar, which is located in a previously inaccessable region of the far northwest corner of the map, near Icewater Jetty."

This is great news! How cool would it be for some parts of high rock to be unlocked? But i dont think it will be something really big but a part of it would really be amazing. But Todd said "very large" areas.I dont want to get my hopes up but,OMGOMG.
Or maybe he is trolling us.
Todd the liar. Troll Howard :)
Wait, TWO landmasses? I'm betting the second has something to do with all this Falmer stuff.

Best news about Dawnguard until now. I hope for a new Villige or City located in the new landmass. But the 2nd big landmass could also mean that we get something similar to Blackreach. Atleast that comes to my mind when I was reading this:

"There actually a really, really good other quest in there with a really cool dungeon" that has nothing to do with Dawnguard's main storyline.

Neither have I. I assume it's another new location in Dawnguard, and Todd forgot about it. But who knows? Anyway, looking at the guide, I can see several rocky islands. I'm gunna explore them tomorrer, and see if I can't find Castle Volhikar.

The westmost point on the northern shore is near Northwatch keep. There's no clear road or trail to reach it already (how all those Thalmor come and go it's a misthery. I wonder if Castle Volhikar (and castle Dawnguard as well) will be dropped in the middle of nowhere or they will create a proper road.

Anyone have an idea if vampire lord spells will belong to a category of their own? If not, then I'd like to invest perks to reduce magicka costs for the spells for a more efficient vamp lord.

It's on a secluded island. My guess is that they may create a little jetty on the other side, but no road. A castle full of Vampires right next to Solitude and the Imperial Legion is gunna want to keep hidden.

Naw, Spike.

But seriosuly, if you play a 'good' Vampire you have no choice but to be like that anyway, or at best Neutral.

Is the hidden blade actually owned by them?

And yeah we remember the machinima interview i think it was where it was actually stated one of the castles was 'off the coast' of the mainland, so i'd bank on that being the second landmass

I'm thinking it might be Vampire Lords aren't attacked when in human form, but other vampires will still need to feed to keep up the ruse. I don't think becoming a vampire would automatically qualify you as a Vampire Lord so I'm hoping there are different rules for different strains.

Unless they make it so that in stage 4 you are not attacked on sight, but people will not talk to you like in Oblivion.

It doesn't? Damn, I thought that's what it was. So Soul Tear will be mostly useless outside the Cairn?
