Dawnguard = Knights of the Nine

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 10:43 pm

One faction, side quests, new items, creatures, and etc. So Dawnguard may of had a little more content, but is that worthy of being twice the price?

I don't think we can make a 1:1 comparison in terms of raw content. They seem to have similar length in terms of gameplay hours for a single playthrough, true enough, however it's rather difficult to say it adds x hours when it comes to major additions such as Vampire Lord form, Werewolf perk trees, and Crossbows. NOTN simply added the new questline, armor, and a couple spells, no real new additions which changed gameplay. Think about it this way: KOTN was never a 'must-have' expansion, except for maybe the niche of paladin RPers. No one would say you're really missing out on much without it. However, if you're a werewolf, or a vampire, or an archer(to a lesser extent adittedly) it's difficult not to say that you're missing out if you don't buy DG. If you don't purchase KOTN, you miss out on a couple new items and a set of armor, and some quests. If you don't purchase DG, you miss out on the same plus a new form which introduces a whole different style of gameplay, a new perk tree for werewolves, and a new weapon type.

So yeah, DG isn't a DLC that you can simply say "it's the same length and amount of quests as ____, but costs $10 more! What a rip-off!" because it has some intangibles which seriously affect gameplay for the rest of the game.

Knights was apparently 800 while Dawnguard is 1600, so twice the price for the same amount of content.

I beg to differ; KotN had one possible questline, and offered a few so so pieces of new armour.

DG gives you TWO questlines, side quests, 2 perk trees, a new transformation, several new armour types, crossbows, and a few new locations.

That's considerably more than you got with KotN. Fail knee-jerk post is fail.

Yes, I recall Todd saying something along the lines that Dawnguard will be smaller than Shivering Isles, and the future DLC will likely be smaller than Dawnguard, with a lower retail price.
I think he said they were also planning smaller, cheaper DLCs. If Dawnguard is the biggest 'expansion' we get, well I'm disappointed! (Not to mention, that the more I look into it and read the feedback, the less I'm interested in buying it).

You can say that DG is a niche of werewolf and vampire roleplayers, but I see what you mean.

Omg two questlines that are virtually the same, I'm freaking out over here man. Knights had side quests, no new perks because back then it would mean new skills, no transformation is necessary for the setting of the dlc unless you want to transform into one of the nine, and Knights did the same.

In the http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/06/bethesdas-todd-howard-on-dawnguard-the-future-of-skyrim-and-s/, Todd mentions the DLC wont all be at this $20 price point. Hopefully there will be at least one more big one like this, however, which would be fantastic.

Dawnguard wasn't even big and $20 does not mean it will be like dawnguard.

If Dawnguard really equaled KOTN, than it would've likely required you to complete the entire MQ in order to access the new content. Well, at least I've never been able to figure out how to start the KOTN questline without completing the MQ, anyway. Also, Dawnguard adds more unique content than KOTN ever did, like some new land, new castles, new weapon types, etc.

Feels more between SI and KotN for me. Dawnguard definitely added more content than Knights.

Regardless, it's easily twice the size of KotN. If not bigger.

There, I said it. I was hoping for The Shivering Isles and got KotN. Flame me all you want, but that is how I feel. It is a pretty cool DLC, don't get me wrong, but I want a big new area to explore. Do you think we'll get one in the future?
I agree 100%

An add-on is not an expansion ( but an expansion is an add-on...).

To be fair DG is that if you walk the whole way. I mean the Dawnguard are in Riften and at the end of the questline, you have to go all the way to Solitude.

Anyway I agree completely with this, the only thing I'd compared KoTN too in dawnguard is the dawnguard faction.

I wonder if the forum mods are bethesda staff members. They both have the same traits. Not an insult :P

Meh D: I hope they at least give us one big DLC. new villages,cities,etc... and alot of side quests. But dawnguard is the first DLC for skyrim, and this is the knights of the nine of skyrim,But bigger,That maybe means the dlcs for skyrim will be really big. at least one big. I remember they saying something big
