Dawnguard = Knights of the Nine

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 2:07 pm

I'm quite happy to believe that Dawnguard is Skyrim's KotN, because if that's the case, then I can't wait to see our Shivering Isles.

I think Dawnguard is somewhere between Bloodmoon and Knights of the Nine.

There, I said it. I was hoping for The Shivering Isles and got KotN. Flame me all you want, but that is how I feel. It is a pretty cool DLC, don't get me wrong, but I want a big new area to explore. Do you think we'll get one in the future?

Perhaps, maybe as a full expansion but not as mere DLC content

You can say that DG is a niche of werewolf and vampire roleplayers, but I see what you mean.

Omg two questlines that are virtually the same, I'm freaking out over here man. Knights had side quests, no new perks because back then it would mean new skills, no transformation is necessary for the setting of the dlc unless you want to transform into one of the nine, and Knights did the same.
I don't know what dlc you were playing man? But the two quest lines were veryyyy different in terms of style and gameplay.

IMO it's a huge step up from Kotn but a good step back from shivering isles.

I beg to differ; KotN had one possible questline, and offered a few so so pieces of new armour.

DG gives you TWO questlines, side quests, 2 perk trees, a new transformation, several new armour types, crossbows, and a few new locations.

That's considerably more than you got with KotN. Fail knee-jerk post is fail.

After reading that i have to sort of agree. Although KOTN armour was cool. Love the heavy DG armour, with a similar fullface!

I think a lot of people were expecting a whole new area.
But either way I wasn't disappointed, the DLC added two smallish areas and a lot of new weapons, armors etc...

Overall I'd rate the DLC 9.2/10

Knights of the Nine was
* one new faction
* 11 new quests
* one new set of armour
* two new unique weapons
----------------
Dawnuagrd is
Spoiler

* two new factions
* 26 new quests
* at least two new sets of Armour
* 5 new unique weapons, including a new weapon material
* two new large areas to explore ( one of them being a realm of Oblivion )
* two new skills lycanthropy/Vampire Lord
---------------
if you asked me, you're all spoiled :blush:
it is really only one fraction and 15 quests, because the quests are the same

Now you mention it.. its a good point. I really don't think they will ever make DLC which allows you to go into another province though, unless its literally on the border, otherwise they wouldn't name each game by province ( expect oblivion ).

Just hope the next DLC extends the lore on the dwemer!!

Point Lookout was mentioned as a reference in terms of the size and amount of content.

And for ten bucks, Point Lookout was a good buy. Would have rated it completely differently had they charged twenty for it, though.

The silver lining of the Xbox exclusive for PC and PS3 users is that we have a much better idea what we will be getting with the DLC now, and I know enough to wait for it to go on sale. I'll eventually get it ... if for no other reason than because many of the best mods will use resources from it ... but I'm not in a hurry.

That's likely what they will do. You can read up on what happened to the Dwemer right now, and I believe it would be entirely feasible for them to throw out a DLC that shows where they stand now, wherever they ended up. Considering the amount of Dwemer ruins there are, and all the quests that involve Dwemer ruins, and the fact that you can acquire the blade Keening, I see those as strong indicators of a Dwemer-related DLC. It seems to me like Bethesda enjoys all their Dwemer related content!

No theres plenty of stuff surrounding the dwemer in lore and it would be kinda boring due to the dwemer being done to death, especially in Morrowind and they aren't going to fully explain what happened to them because it would kill the mystery of the race.

I want more content too, preferably to leave Skyrim, I'm sick of the snow and trees to be honest.
I'd love to have a tiny bit of Black Marsh or Elsweyr, to have some Silt Strider dock in a random part of Skyrim's border where you go, pay some dude 600-1000 Septims and he'd take you to someplace that does NOT look like Skyrim.
That's why I liked Soul Cairn or Sovngarde when the mist was there.

Does everyone realize this expansion is not supposed to be the size of Shivering Isles? Its supposed to be like Knights of the Nine by adding new locations to the same providence. When compared with Knights of the Nine it is much better in terms of quantity. The Quality is up to your own personal tastes.

I think it's more expensive than KOTN though. So maybe somewhere in between KOTN and SI in price and content.

Bethesda even said that, more content the KOTN but less then Shivering Isles.

there's a lot more content than KOTN, its kind of wrong comparing those as well. theres never really been any DLC this size before, so right now it stands outside of comparison in my option

Agreed. It took me about 10 hours to play through the Dawnguard side of the MQ. Since then I've put about 5 more hours into the sidequest and still have more to do.If I'm not mistaken KOTN was $10 on release and SI was $30. Dawnguard fits somewhere in the middle of those two in terms of content so $20 was a fair deal.

but wasn't KOTN 10 bucks or 800 ms points or somewhere around there. of course it should be better if we paid 20 bucks for it and IMO i think it is. I do agree that people should stop comparing it to SI as that was a complete expansion and not just an add-on.

Knights of the Nine as in the smaller, preliminary DLC for Skyrim? Or as in, they're the same size? Dawnguard is much bigger than KotN.

Some food for thought. I'm not making a statement or anything, just pointing out something interesting.

Here are the scores for both dlcs on metacritic (a website that averages critic and player reviews from different websites and magazines):

Knights of the Nine: B- (around 81%)

Dawnguard: C- (around 73%)

Interpret that as you please.
