Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 10:04 am

I just got Fallout New Vegas: Ultimate Edition on sale from Steam. So right now I could care less about when Dawnguard makes an appearance on the PC! See you on The Strip....

I understand that business is business. Microsoft got a 30 day exclusive. Fine...what i dont understand is why Bethesda can't give some kind of statement saying whether or not to expect Dawnguard for other platforms at all. The way they are keeping this secretive is not good business. I am not even asking for a date. I am just asking for some kind of time frame of a release, if there is to be one at all.
Starting to hate beth for keeping us in the shadow, we're all loyal customers and they are losing some by this weird action. After the 30 day exclusive period ends give us the dlc why keep us waiting? Fixing bugs or?

It's a relatively common feature of co-op advertising deals in other industries where you must agree not to promote on your promotional partner's competing platform until after a certain period of time. Even merely announcing the date is a form of promotion. For example, if you license a film to HBO for 18 months, and then it starts airing on Starz immediately afterward, you cannot announce the Starz date while it's still airing on HBO. Similar terms apply to most types of exclusive promotions with sponsorships.

Keep in mind, I'm not a Bethesda employee, just a fan and a volunteer, so I have no idea about the PC/PS3 dates either, just my guess that the reason they haven't announced anything is because they really can't, due to contractual obligations. As for "whether or not to expect Dawnguard for other platforms at all," stormwatcher, Bethesda has already confirmed that Dawnguard will be released for PC and PS3 as well, they just haven't announced any dates.

It makes sense. Though I would reckon that it'd be more like if Game of Thrones season one was released on showtime and hbo right out of the gate, then finding out hbo gets season two 30 days before showtime. As your paying cash for either channel, its somewhat annoying to the consumer.

If the only thing stopping them from announcing a release date is a contrac... Perhaps in the future they should just flat out say, that they will announce a release date after the 30 day window closes (Ability to make such a statement can be written into the contract). It'd shut down most of the complaints. (I'd still be annoyed, but who can turn down sweet microsoft cash?)

Which is pretty logical if you'd think about it.
If bethesda announces the official date for the other 2 platforms, players will know when it will come and thus don't feel the urge to purchase an x-box (version of Dawnguard) to play the game. And thus Micro$oft will make less money.

Don't worry, it'll come

Regarding all the posts from people who simply can't wait for this DLC, heck I'm not sweating it at all. Call me crazy but eight months later and Skyrim STILL feels like a new, fresh game for me. Part of it I'm sure are the mods. But another part is I just love this damn game so much. I still get excited when I start a new character, enter a well-loved ruin, test out a new mod, check out my character, decide which perk to choose next, etc.

Another reason I'm excited about Dawnguard but not chomping at the bit is I'm ever so slightly terrified that it will break one or more mods in my immaculately balanced collection. It's the same terror I feel whenever a new patch is released.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the new assets after watching my girlfriend play it on the Xbox. The new armor is fantastic IMO. We finally have some decent looking helmets. I'm looking forward to my new Dawnguard assets to meet my copy of Photoshop. But even though new mods for Skyrim are coming out in a trickle (compared to new mods for Oblivion at this time in that old game's lifespan), there's still plenty out there that should keep any PC gamer patient in the face of no-news from Bethesda.

Well i bought RAGE on monday from the Steam sale, and that got me right back into the post-apocalyptic and gun violence feel, so i'm installing mods on Fallout 3 right now, and propably won't be returning for Skyrim until december :hehe: so i'm not in a hurry either. Maybe the Fallouts will keep me busy long enough that getting the GOTY edition looks like a better idea.

Regardless, by the time i return Danwguard won't be 20€ anymore ;)

If I were you (all of you) I'd prepare myself to wait another month.

Thanks, BootySweat. Perhaps you could of slid your ass into one of these threads alot earlier to quell the endless speculation?

Its annoying. Here I am running a microsoft OS, a loyal cusomter of theirs for many years, and what do they do? Pay money to delay content for my computer.

Indeed, I've been using an MS OS for 21 years, paid for, often on multiple PCs. The thing is that gamers make up a tiny minority of all MS product users on PCs, this is a console vs. console marketing battle, and PC gamers get caught in the crossfire because we make up too small a proportion of Microsoft's total market for software compared to business use (and they have little control over what we do with our PCs anyway) that it's of little interest to them to entice gamers to use a PC rather than a PS3, they want them to move from PS3 to XBox.

It's not even that PC is a minority platform for gaming, because especially with digital downloads these days I expect it's holding its own compared to the console market, but more that people who buy a Microsoft OS specifically for gaming are such a tiny proportion of Microsoft's PC software revenue that we just don't even register as more than a blip on their profit charts. We're just not that important to their business, and it's not as if we have a great range of alternatives to choose from. They would/do go all out if a competitor threatens their software sales from the business sector.

Have to say mind you that I'm not desperate about Dawnguard - it will be released when it's released and I have plenty of other stuff to do whilst I am waiting for it. It would be nice to know when it was going to be released, but more so that I could budget for it, I'm not rolling in cash!

(speaking to bethesda game devs)i would be patient for this release, but i feel like pc and ps3 users have been given the cold boot in terms of dawnguard....id be fine if we had been given ANY word, ANY info, ANY IDEA of when this is coming out, because many people PLAN their purchases per month based on something called a MONTHLY or WEEKLY BUDGET, and i've had 20 dollars that i could use towards OTHER things that has been sitting here all month, and all i hear is RUMORS that its coming out in SEPTEMBER? OK i've got an idea! how about i just take that 20 dollars that i would use on dawnguard, go watch the dark knight rises twice instead, and if your game comes out ill just boycott it until after initial sales are calculated for the first few weeks, since you neglected well over half your players just to line your pockets with microsoft's crappy bribes? don't get me wrong! i like skyrim, and i enjoy oblivion, but this dlc drama is ridiculous...i mean you basically treated xbox users like a spoiled kid, and you treated pc and ps3 users like a neglected child locked in the basemant....and the ability to mod just makes that fact even worse: you know they are important and fix half your glitches, yet you don't give them any clue as to when you are releasing an important dlc, NOT EVEN A WEEK BEFOREHAND....you gave xbox users at LEAST TWO WEEK'S NOTICE, maybe more but you announced the beta on june 12th (i looked it up just to be sure)...again the reason im mad isn't because of the delay, or even because i heard it was september..THE REASON IM MAD IS YOU HAVEN'T GIVEN US ANY CLUE ABOUT WHEN IT WILL BE, NOT EVEN LESS THAN A WEEK BEFORE EVERYONE IS ASSUMING IT WILL RELEASE!!!
(speaking to bethesda forums users, specifically those with pc and ps3 versions of skyrim) i mean, shouldn't i be angry? shouldn't YOU be angry? they are showing how much they don't care about any one of you by just not saying ANYTHING...im sure many of you can't afford to have a pc and a console and every game that comes out, and many of you have a tight budget to keep to because of the economy where some planning would come in nicely for your purchases...so we should probably do more to bring attention to bethesda that whenever it releases, we would like to be given some idea like not necessarily a date but a MONTH to go with here! i just figured id bring this up since i checked on the forums and as far as i could see it just seemed like no one was discussing this! if im the only one upset then whatever, but i feel like the least i can do to show my distaste is to skip dawnguard for a few weeks here to show by my wallet how i feel mistreated by this action, and get it in august...i know people can be harsh on forums anywhere online (i know my post here will probably get condescended trolled and insulted by a million people by the end of today, but im saying this bc it has to be said not because its easy to say) but don't let that deter you from speaking up!

They can't give us a clue about Dawnguard's release on the PS3 and PC, because the 360 exclusivity contract is still on.
The contract ends this Thursday, so I assume that they will announce something about the PS3 and PC version.
I can understand your frustration, I'm frustrated too, but yelling won't do anything to help us.

I happened to run across the word, boycott, in that giant rectangle made of words. Please don't use that word. Such a dirty unnecessary word.

pointless spam removed. If you aren't going to read a post, why bother posting an off-topic reply?

I really didn't bother reading but I assume you're asking, and no, there hasn't been an announcement yet. Think it's kinda understandable too, given the fair amount of bugs found on the Xbox version.

Re: other platforms - P-Hines seems pretty convinced they've never mentioned any other platform.

It was announced in a press release during PAX back in August 2011 that the first two Skyrim DLC will be timed exclusives for Xbox

http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/26/skyrim-dlc-packs-heading-to-xbox-360-first/

On November 11th, Bethesda Game Studios brings us the next installment in The Elder Scrolls franchise with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Xbox LIVE will be the first to bring players the experience of Skyrim's add-on content in this revolutionized open-world fantasy epic where players can explore any way they choose.

The first two add-on content drops for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will be releasing exclusively on Xbox 360, 30 days before it's available anywhere else.

Since that time it was also confirmed in a few video interviews and on the Bethblog the day of the Dawnguard announcement that it's "coming to Xbox 360 first, before it's available anywhere else." In other words, it's coming to the other platforms at some point after the end of the timed exclusive window for Xbox360.

Keep in mind, I'm not a Bethesda employee, and I have no idea when the PC/PS3 date would be, but based on the press release and other information it certainly seems pretty clear that the other platforms will eventually get Dawnguard as well.

I don't think you should be upset, no. I'm not upset, and I play on the PC.

So many people these days get all insulted when they aren't getting the shiniest sticker. Why? I've seen so many people rant and rant about how Bethesda doesn't "care" about them or is being "rude" or .. all sorts of things.

No.

Bethesda isn't a person. They aren't your friend. They certainly don't owe you anything. They sell a product just like any other company in the universe. Sure they want to be respectful, but there's nothing disrespectful about staying silent. Goodness.

Do you get an email from Toyota every time they plan a new feature in their next cars? Do you expect to?

When LG designs a new washing machine, do they post on their website the expected launch date?

I mean, c'mon people. Bethesda is doing business. They probably have a contract clause somewhere that says they can't announce anything about the addons while they are in the exclusive period. Besides, they've ALREADY MENTIONED that these exclusive periods will be 30 days. THIRTY DAYS is your answer. They've ALREADY told you.

Sure, it's normal for companies to announce things that they are excited about, and give a general idea of the timeline. Guess what folks? Dawnguard has BEEN announced, and your have a general idea of the timeline.

Why the heck is everyone feeling like they deserve more? Why does everyone think their $60 is so special?

Appreciated Booty. I've made the mindless assumption that since you're a mod, you are privy to information us plebs are not, and as such had finally made a breakthrough.

Let's hope come Thursday Beth hit the loud speakers with something definitive, not a moment too soon.
