Dead is Dead - First Playthrough

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 5:55 pm

Sounds interesting, I might attempt DiD when I get some playthroughs under my belt but certainly not on my first character playthrough probably not on my second either.

Well, it would teach me a lesson, it would make me step even more careful, or i could reload the game, just pow wow, and defeat him. No real fun, not for me atleast..

Ha! Good luck with that OP, your first character will not make it very far.

That's why you don't run into a set bear-trap. You wouldn't do it in real life ;P

Yah, I can actually imagine it being fun...

So many mistakes to be made...so many..

You'll really want to be careful in dungeons. The traps aren't really obvious to spot at all this time around

Yeah but if you don't see the floor tile that springs the trap, you don't see the floor tile that springs the trap. Instant death. I just don't see how you could get very far exploring dungeons you've never seen with hidden traps.

Sounds like "The Binding of Isaac"
Although I always die in that so I won't be trying it.

Not for my first I have been planning this so long that I would not be able to cope losing my first character. At some point I will though because it always makes thing more intresting but not till I know the game a lot better.

Hello!
Who else, other than me are planning to play Dead is Dead exclusively from the start? I think it's a great rule of thumbs and adds alot to the experience.

No and I have a question for you. Does DiD play allow quit/reload from tedious situations or no?

Define 'tedious situations'

I remember when LOTRO debuted, I was on the unofficial RP server (Landroval, now sort-of official RP), and some people were seriously trying to play that way. I don't think it lasted all that long.

If you clip yourself stuck in a rock, and no other option is viable, you should be the one to determine it. 'tedious' situations don't really mean death.

Kudos to the OP. This is how I plan to play as well. I find that you consciously make better decisions when doing a DiD and won't die as many times as you might think, but like another poster stated, you will not take as many chances.

I plan on doing dead is dead AT FIRST. If it gets ridiculous and irritating to go through a bunch of the same motions again I will just play normally. I want to see how it works out. I'll keep a graveyard of chars too.

I tend to test the waters too much to play that type of style.

Finding ways to survive long falls is a favorite of mine :)

more than that I'll keep a journal for each character complete with a backstory.

The fun part about this really is the sharing. It almost makes it feel like a multi-player experience. Sharing the stories of the fallen heroes. :D

We should have a sticky thread for this.

If it turns into a constant fail, I will reluctantly yield to the rule. Even then it will be IF, I don't feel too dirty about it. I would have to retire the DID character, and start a new one on the untied terms of continuing after death.

Yeah, maybe we can have a thread dedicated to it, like Sr. Cinco did on the Oblivion forums. Except, like Sr. Cinco said, it is going to be a [censored] trying to manage it when Skyrim launches due to the amount of players/characters.

I would like to see a collection of stories and characters though for dead is dead. If that's how you guys are doing it, maybe I'll just go the extra step and write backstories etc...

Damn I'm such a dork but who cares.

Stormbird, asked me about a site where everyone could log and search for fallen characters. I forwarded it to Gunny, the one that started the thread in FONV, and got me started. Gunny then created the wiki for it. Although it is still under construction, anyone will be able to log their fallen characters from any game. However keeping a thread and graveyard in the forum is great. i love reading about them. Especially the kookie builds, with funny limits, like staying drunk or running topless. Better yet...both.

Either way, starting one in Skyrim would take a lot of updating the OP.

With all due respect, but you probably have more time to dedicate to a game than most people do.

Must be nice to be able to it, the willpower and time required must be tremendous.
Even if I had the time, for me it's just impossible.
I get so attached to my main character, that I almost never do more than one playthrough.
