Hell yes.

My successful DID playthrough on New Vegas is the most fun I've ever had with a video game, and doing some of the DLCs blind only made it more rewarding.
Games like these always tend to be too easy anyways. But when one death or one mistake means the end of your character for good? Hell, you could sneak into a cave that houses nothing but a mudcrab and it'd still be heartpounding.

Hell, I can't even go back to non-DID gameplay. It just feels stupid to me to keep playing a character and become super-powerful with that character when I know that their true fate saw them dying to bandits at level 7 or whatever. It's one thing to make a super powerful character, it's another to know that that character truly survived to see the day that they became a demi-god.

I will say I'll have fun reading the DiD threads.

But will I do this myself? HELL, NO.

Different strokes for different folks. I get so much joy from playing Elder Scrolls games that I don't need something like this to enhance my experience. And personally, it wouldn't enhance it becasue I would just be pissed beyond belief after an inevitable death. I invest A LOT of time into my characters, from looks to stats and everything in between. Loosing my character for good? No freaking thanks. This isn't the sort of game I want to be petrified of walking 3 feet like I would in a game like Dark Souls, where death awaits behind nearly every corner.

For those of you who legit enjoy this, I sincerely wish you guys good luck and have fun. But I will not join you ever :P :)

I certainly try not to die with my characters in RPGs, and the first death a character has leaves an impression on me but...I don't give up on the character. There are usually too many factors that can add up to defeat and I never like to min/max characters in RPGs, so I don't try to make them indestructible, already putting myself at a slight statistical advantage. If other people like to do it, go for it, but I never do.

I will probably play my first and second play throughs normal, but later on once I played it alot I will probably try this. Sounds interesting and will be like playing a whole new game, actually thinking/etc.

Yea, not on the first playthrough. The game is too good, I don't want to miss anything. Maybe with a mod or something.

I'm old roguelike fan so dead is dead is the way I prefer my RPGs.
If my character is immortal I never really experience the same excitement and intensity as when playing DiD. (nor the frustration!)

Not sure If I try it from very beginning though. I'm intimidated by them dragons.

Actually, this is one big reason I am drawn to DiD. I love roguelikes, and that's one of the beauties of playing a roguelike.

I will be playing dead-is-dead. Does that mean I'm a joyless automaton who considers gaming another chore on the list? No way. I am going to have a heck of time with Skyrim, and my choices will only heighten my enjoyment.

I imagine it'd be quite difficult what with all the dragons and giants.

I'll probably play normal save and reload but on maximum difficulty settings.

Listen: DiD is not some sort of devilish trick to make you hate a certain videogame; it simply forces a level of tactical thought and premeditation that is absent when your character is, for all intents and purposes, an all-powerful invincible Godbeing who can Prince-of-Persia his way out of any bad situation. The first time I ever did a DiD in a video game, it was intense, gripping, and utterly immersive. Fun? Not always, but it had its moments. Remember, the best movies, books, and other mediums of entertainment which require emotional engagement don't just make you feel good; they tap into your entire spectrum of feeling. DiD is not a sort of "hardcoe" mode that makes gaming a relentless hassle - it gives the player a chance to truly tell a story fraught with actual(ish) danger, rather than just annoying temporary setbacks.

And, again, I remember a time when Dead is Dead because The GM Said So.

No way, man. I tried that on The Witcher II. And it didn't go well. I doubt this will be anything near The Witcher's difficulty, but, still.

I'm not sure... I enjoyed DiD in roguelikes, and I still play some of them. But every modern game that wasn't designed for it just felt off, as if the designers didn't care enough about making the game feel fair. OTOH, that's not really been the case in TES games so far anyway. Still I'll probably try playing on a harder difficulty first but with no strong DiD commitment. If it turns out it works, until I actually do die, I can still change my mind.

Play dead is dead for a few quick games using different character types. That way you can see what types of characters are like and pick a keeper that you can use to complete the game. So I would say use Dead is Dead first to get a feel for things and then after you have invested a lot of time in one character stop and keep him for the rest of the game.

Can I ask if something kills you and it was total bull does that count. I'd say it'd be fun to play if you made it more real by seeing what happens to you first then decide if you want to continue or end the game. An example is your running through the forest and a wolf swipes at you a few times, you put up a good fight but still end up dying, would you count that as maybe a severe wound and maybe you need rest before doing anything crazy again.

As for my answer to your question, NO WAY! Maybe after Ive played it over and over and want to take a new approach but honestly I think with you doing that you'll miss out big time. You'll end up coming here after everyone has had plenty of time to play and beat the game and you'll run across so many spoilers. Also I think with Skyrim you'll invest so much time you would not want to do that. Imagine spending hours on ending just trying to get something or do something and that you get killed. Or if you have a character that you've spent endless hours with, building then up and......

Maybe something you enjoy doing but skyrim seems to be a game you'd want avoid playing that way. I know people do it but not really on the first playthrough. Maybe play it and see how it is and prepare yourself for parts that may be really really hard. I'm not bashing you in any way what so ever, actually I'd call you pretty damn tuff if you played this way. Mentally I'd go insane. So maybe it'd be tuff but stupid on the first playthrough or second or third lol.

Oh yeah diablo 2 hardcoe mode type. I'll do it just like i did in fallout. CAREFULY craft my character and not just wander like a zombie crashign into walls and falling off cliffts. Betcha the first time I see a dragon I'll run faster than it's possible ingame probably, then come back prepared to slay thy dragon hehe!


Lots more exciting knowing if I die I die instead of knowing I can reload, specially in a game where is not that easy to die anyway if you prepare yourself for the encounters. Then again I plan on heavy armor + shield, lot harder to die compared to maybe thief/archer players.


Edit: death penalty will be reload on a new char.... not quit playing Skyrim... I'm not that crazy. Besides my swetty hot guitar shaped blonde bombshell blue eyes busty athletic wife would hate me... :obliviongate:

Srsly? It′bat [censored] insane playing something like DS that is supposed to be absurdly hard and you die every few minutes. But eventualy you will finish the game that isn′t that big at all.
Now, Skyrim... I can tell that about NO ONE who claims to do it in this thread will actually keep doing it.
Just imagine you playing Skyrim for 2 years straight, and while not even approaching the end of the story, suddenly a new super-mighty Dragon appears and screws your [censored] up.
No, Sir. Skyrim is HUGE, probably the biggest game ever made, I won′t spend it all on the same places just because I have to restart after every single death. That′s pathetic.
That game′s made to EXPLORE, and why would you lose all of your exploration just because a mudcrab killed you while you took a piss in the forest?

I might play it on hard mode though, but only after I got into the gameplay and gained experience. It′s been a time since I last played and ES game after all.
Btw how are you talking about your second/third playthroughs? You realize the world ends in 2012? Better set up a backup computer with Sykrim in Africa...

Some enemies like dragons will kill you probably a few times before you are at the right level and are able to kill them. I watched a leaked v ideo of a guy dying to not even that tough of an opponent.
