I find Skyrim to be a bit shallower than Oblivion, and this is with dragons and Oblivion Gates included.
I don't know. My experience with Oblivion was a great one. It had a few quirks here and there, and the first time I played was with the lowest graphics quality and no mods, so this is not about graphics or something
Graphically speaking, Skyrim is infinitely better. Many wondered how did the bandits know the existence of a cow (and pregnant at that!) while there is no livestock whatsoever in Cyrodiil?
Skyrim put me in awe, but something is just lacking.
The individual stories doesn't seem to be unique. In Oblivion, you had to unite lost twins, make impressions on every mages Guild branch, impress the Skill Masters before they will teach you, and stuff. Some boils down to "do this, kill these" but each had awesome background story
The individual quests in Skyrim is more realistic: not everybody had a problem in which you become a hero of great renown, ad everybody generally face the same problem, but that's exactly what made it boring
