DLC Exclusive

Post » Sat Dec 04, 2010 9:29 pm

Nice, a slap in the face from Bethesda and Microsoft. Well, I was going to buy this game tomorrow, but looks like instead I'll continue playing Uncharted 2 online. I'll either be buying it used or waiting for a GOTY edition used, like many of my fellow PS3 gamers out there. It really is a shame, because I was very much looking forward to this game (I loved Fallout 3, though I waited for the GOTY) but I can't in good conscience support what they're trying to do here. I was under the impression that Obsidian had said there wouldn't be any of these 'deals' this time around.

I doubt that any substantial content could be made between now and christmas time. You're not gonna be seeing some kind of broken steel/point lookout/The pitt type DLC's. At best it'll have as much content as operation anchorage with a quest or two and some new gear.

It wasn't Obsidian's decision to make, it was Bethesda's call.

a pc that can play fallout better then a ps3/xbox is very $$$

Not really, $200 or so and I upgraded my PC to better than Xbox/PS3 quality. It was a pretty ****** desktop before that.

I'm not arguing that anyone should change from their platform of choice because they're all good, but this really isn't true. In fact, if you already have a fairly recent PC you'd be able to play on higher settings than the consoles by adding a $70 video card to your system. Plus, the games are cheaper. Just sayin'.

Anyway, folks need to relax about this until we know the details. I'm going to laugh my butt off if the exclusive DLC turns out to be a Dinky the Dinosaur XBL theme or something. :P We have no idea what the DLC is or why it's an exclusive. People are jumping to conclusions here.

Well if New Vegas is like Fallout 3, then you will be waiting about a year before the price drop. That is what I did, and got tired of waiting after 9 months. Got it on the 360 though. So it will be about this time next year or just after when GotY comes out for New Vegas. That is alot of will power for you. There is still lots of game to be played without the DLC though.

I admire you on your stance for your principles.

The Games Produced by Bethesda which is owned by Zenimax. If either one of those 2 companys said hey lets tick off everyone and make the entire game 360 exclusive they would only have to choices either make the game exclusive or not make the game at all. This is all hypothetical though

Not at all, actually. I'm pretty sure you can make your own PC for a bit less than $500 that can easily run Fallout: New Vegas. The specs required for it aren't really all that demanding.

True it may be a bit more than an Xbox 360 or PS3, but you get a lot of better things by comparison.

1. Able to run the game in full 1080p (1920x1080) HD or higher. (Xbox 360 only renders up to 720p)
2. Able to run the game at faster frame rates. Usually 60 FPS+ (frame rate of most Xbox 360 games is 30 FPS).
3. Mods and modding tools, which add on tons more to the game, extending its life. (Xbox 360 and PS3 don't get this).
4. Unofficial patches created by the community which fix issues left by the devs (again, Xbox 360 and PS3 don't get this)

Not to mention a PC does a whole lot more than a Xbox 360 and a PS3 can do.

Why are PC people up in arms? Is this the same PC people who are complaining now, saying that they get to play with Mods, and is better than the consoles? You have your mods, 360 has the DLC which we have to pay for. PC mods are used for free.

I feel sorry for the PS 3 players out there agian.

Thank you. That sums it up perfect.

i had planned on picking it up on PS3 since my 360 is on its last legs, but i guess i''ll change those plans. i just wish developers (& companies...namely Microsoft & Sony) would buck this trend cause its essentially punishing the people that have one console/platform...for having one console/platform

If someone says they're planning to buy the game used that's fine - however please do not turn this thread in to a general discussion on buying used games.

Here is why F:NV DLC exclusivity leaves me a little peaved. I bought Fallout3 and ALL of the Dlc for the xbox 360 and loved it. Had my system RROD and fixed. However, having that happen, I don't really trust my xbox to get any games that aren't exclusives. Everything not exclusive to the Xbox, I get for my PS3. Also, becasue I loved the game so much ( wanted a copy that would hold up over time so I can return to it) and wanted to support the developement team, I bought Fallout3 and ALL the Dlc for my PS3 as well. Not to mention I also have Oblivion for both consoles.

Now, I am in no way complaining about having bought them (and dlcs) for both system. In fact, I throroughly enjoyd getting it for both because it felt new again and I played through both to completion. But I feel slighted because since I chose to order the collector's edition for my ps3, I won't be able to get the exctiement of day one dlc for what I am hoping will be another of my favorite games ever. I understand the business side of exclusivity, but that doesn't mean you can't be bummed by it.

Much support and excitement for New Vegas and the team...just wish I could be one of the first ones to continue a great journey with the dlc.

It'll end up coming on the PS3 later on.There's no reason to switch the console of what game you'll buy it on if you prefer the PS3 over the 360.You just have to be patient with it to be released for all consoles.I don't mind it at all since I'll be waiting before I buy any DLC for any game or...I'll just wait for it to come packed in a special edition with all DLC.

The article is a little vague on extending the player adventure in New Vegas. Does this still mean it will maintain a difinitive ending or will that change?

Look at it this way. XBoxers handle the beta testing of the DLC. Once the rest of us get it, it'll be patched and shiny - and we'll know whether or not it's even worth getting. Everybody wins. :P

this addresses the issue that has me so confused: by "exclusive" do they mean Xbox will be getting the DLC first, or that Xbox will be the only platform getting the DLC? I'm perfectly happy with waiting for something and never having to deal with Windows Live again, but if I need an Xbox in order to play, I don't know what to think.

The fact that this news comes out days before release (a day?) is practically criminal. It looks like I'll be returning my unopened copy (which is shipping to me as I speak) to Gamestop and waiting for a USED copy to buy on the 360. It's purely a matter of principle, since it will probably only be $5 less knowing Gamestop's price gouging. Hell, I specifically avoid getting used games if new versions are still in print, because I actually like giving publishers incentives to put out a quality product, but not this time. I let myself get talked into the PC version, in my own foolishness, because of the fact that I have a PC that can play the better graphics out, and the access to third party mods. I should have known better than for Bethesda not to give people the shaft, but really, it's too be expected. What surprises me is that PC is getting hung up as well, when the game is bearing the games for WINDOWS brand tag.

I was a foolish idiot who told myself that they wouldn't pull the same crap this time around. That they vowed to do better and they would. That's the last time I make that mistake.

Edit: for the record, I would have ZERO problem with this DLC being exclusively launched if we had any decent amount of warning. To issue it long after I have time to cancel or change my order though is just unconscionable. I now have to either pay return shipping to GS or drive a considerable distance to a store for a refund/exchange.

Wow, I know that they are just trying to make money, and I know they didn't make that much money from psn, but I am one of the few that bought it.
And because some of you haven't been around that long I want to tell you what happened.

Around march/April of 2009 , when broken steel just came out for the 360 and pc, they announced the ps3 would get dlc. I was ecstatic, this was amazing! The website said operation Anchorage would arrive in June, which was ok as long as we get the dlc. Then at the end of June I still didn't see any dlc on psn, so I checked the boards. As it turns out, All dlc was pushed back, till September, and not only that, when Broken steel would come out, then we would still have to wait five months for all of them to be released. People were pissed off, there were only one or two nice comments on the article, like "It's ok" or "I'll wait" and the other 300 were about how that's [censored]. But I was still patient and I waited. When I finally paid 50$ for all the dlc I installed, and then started the game. I played for five minutes and then the game crashed. Restarted, played for another five minutes and it crashed. That's right It made it worse, the already horrible crash rate was made worse. 110$ of my hard earned money down the drain.

So yes, I can see why they would release it on 360 first, a lot of people didn't buy the dlc, They had heard that it crashed very often, and some hardcoe fans that would've bought it didn't because they were still angry about them pushing back the release date. So why would they invest in something that didn't return their investment the first time?

I Think the main issue is the lack of details so close to the release date it just seems like they waited till everyone pre-ordered the game and then very close to release decided to say oh by the way we are giving the xbox preferential treatment again. Just really makes PS3 owners seem less important than xbox and so much for rewarding loyal customers I bought both oblivion and FO3 but still have to wait till the dlc has been reviewed to death and the inevitable plot twist being spoilered everywhere before I can even start it just because I chose 1 system not the other.

Nothing. Its the simple fact that SOME not ALL PC users are complaining about this. I can understand being angry. But thats how we, console gamers, are about mods. We deal with it so you should to. If anyone deserves to be upset its PS3 users. But they should be upset with Sony not Bethesda.

If this content was trivial there would be no reason for Microsoft to be paying good money to secure it for itself.

Sad but true.
