In The Name Of The King
A traveler from the east, while visiting New Vegas, meets the King, and relates to him that he has seen a gang similar to his own, in Tennesse, in a settlement known as "The Land Of Grace", and the residents claim to not only know the true King, but have a far larger collection of still working King Holotapes, King memorabilia, and most importantly, they have the King's true name, as well as his preserved remains, which they worship as a religious icon. After you complete the Kings storyline, and you are well liked by the people in Freeside, The King will give you a quest: The King has hired an independent Vertibird pilot (a ghoul who once made the run from the east coast to the west once, paid for by the Brotherhood Of Steel, to carry some tech from one chapter of the brotherhood to the other) to carry you to Memphis, Tennessee. Your mission? You are asked to journey to the Land Of Grace, to carry the goodwill of The Kings of New Vegas to the Kings of The Land Of Grace, and to collect as much information about the King as you can, including... The Name Of The King.
However, things aren't well in the Land Of Grace. Memphis was hit hard by a powerful nuke, which ruined most of the city, and left a distressingly large number of ghouls. Not just feral ghouls, however: the city also holds the single largest encampment of Ghoul Raiders, lead by the enigmatic Romero, a ghoul who was exposed to a sample of the FEV at the same time as the radiation that transformed him into a ghoul, making him unique: A Ghoul Super Mutant (We have to have something that could compete with Legate Lanius, right?). Romero believes that Ghouls are the future of mankind, and with his army Ghoul Raiders (which have named themselves the Caesars), along with a smattering of Super Mutants and trained Feral Ghouls, covets The Land Of Grace, as the building has been left miraculously untouched by the nuclear holocaust that ravaged America, perfectly preserved in all it's pre-war splendor. Romero believes that making such an obviously blessed building as his headquarters will prove that the ghouls were chosen to be the inheritors of mankind, and will gather all the ghouls of the world to his cause. The Kings of Memphis won't let it go without a fight, though.
But while Romero believes that ghouls are the future inheritors of man, he is not blind to their weakness: infertility. As Romero was one of the original researchers of the FEV before the war, as well as having had access to the scientific equipment of nearly every vault in Tennessee (along with having been able to make contact with (and sharing information with) researchers from The Pitt), he has made a scientific discovery that could change the face of the post-apocalyptic world: The cure to Ghoulification, as well as how to induce it 100% successfully in humans, without causing them to become Feral in the process. Imagine: being able to put on or take off Ghoulification as easily as putting on or taking off a hat. Romero believes in a future where the rulers of the world are the long lived ghouls, with humans serving as a lower class, with the rare exceptional humans being allowed to join the Ghoul Elite.
So, your choice is clear: will you side with the Kings? Fight against an army of ghouls, and risk destroying the ghouls' only hope of ever becoming human again? Or will you side with the Caesars, and wipe out all of the Kings, and make the home of The Great King Himself the palace of a future dictator.
You should have the potential to meet the Bright followers in this quest, as this would most likely be the place of light and healing that their leader spoke of.
Potential quest rewards:
For siding with the Kings, along with several authentic Elvis costumes, you will allow the King to establish King's Radio station, a radio station that plays All Elvis, All The Time, with The King himself as the DJ. You'll also be gifted with several unique weapons that the Kings in Memphis have gathered, among them, a Chainsaw named Groovy (Hail to the King, Baby), a Bumper Sword called Excalibur, a gun that supposedly belonged to the King himself (it's a modified movie prop) named Priscilla, a Gatling Gun named Kentucky Rain, and a Ballistic Fist named Don't Be Cruel.
For siding with Romero, and the Caesars, however, you gain access to the Caesars' weapon stockpile, which is loaded to the brim with energy weapons, as well as an absurd amount of energy weapons ammo, including energy weapons with names like Dawn Of The Dead, a suit of body armor called Never Say Die, and the biggest prize of all: GHOULIFICATION. The ability to go into radiation, and not just be immune to it, but be healed by it. Also, the more radiation you absorb, the higher your stats get, rather than having them lower, as when you were human. However, if you absorb what would be a fatal amount for a human, your body attempts to become a feral. But since there's a flaw in Romero's treatment (or maybe it's a safeguard...), if you go Feral, you die.
