Dragon Age: Origins

Post » Thu May 26, 2011 9:20 pm

Hi, I have Dragon Age for 360. I can't beat the Arch Demon at the end. I never got Wynne in the game and Morrigan decided to leave me. So, my party consists of 3 warriors and Lelianna, and 8 poultices. Even on easy, I can tell its going to be pretty much impossible to beat it. So, I figure I'm probably going to have to use some sort of cheat to get through this part...Does anyone have anything to offer? I looked online and I didn't see anything that was helpful to my situation.

That's the patch I downloaded yesterday.

On a different matter, I noticed something in the novel "The Stolen Throne" that I started recently. At one point Maric and Loghain are helped by the Witch of the Wilds, although she never calls herself Flemeth. Maric has to pay a price for her help, though Loghain isn't told what the price is. Since Maric spends hours in the witch's hut and seems shaken when he emerges, the price is probably to give her a child. What I realized from this is that this is probably when Morrigan was conceived. It means she's Cailan's half-sister, and I don't need to mention who else is her half-brother. Interesting to me, that Morrigan probably has royal blood! It helps excuse her attitude in the game. :)

Also I wonder if Gaider is tying her in to the Arthurian legends. Morgan le Fay slept with her (half-brother?) Arthur and produced the child Mordred if I remember the legend correctly, and Mordred eventually killed his father. Maybe the name "Morrigan" isn't a coincidence, and her child will eventually challenge for the throne of Ferelden. If I were Gaider, I might go with that. Just a thought though.

Last topic: when I played the endgame last night, First Enchanter Irving showed up to help strike the final blows against the Archdemon. I'd never noticed him among the defenders before. My female elf mage was already down, so it was Sten who struck the next-to-last killing blow (Alistair and Morrigan were the other two present). Have you noticed Irving on the roof before?

As long as you can summon allies & have a lot of poultices, it should be easy.

Also, let your rogue use the ballistas, making it even easier.

@syronj
- I read the novel as well, and I didn't take that from that scene, although it is quite possible the Witch of the Wilds did do something like that. Hopefully she used some magic to make herself not look like a crazy old swamp dwelling hag. Otherwise it might have taken more than hours. However, I do think there is more than one possible Witch of the Wilds... and even in the game, Flemeth is the name the woman gives herself - we have no way of knowing who she is, or how old she really is. Still, that is an interesting possibility, and the first thing I thought of when I read about Morrigan even before the game was released was Morgan le Fay/Morgaine.

Thanks for adding to my argument Cailan also svcks. Also I should clarify. By "making nice" I am referring to the fact people thought of him as a hero. That and he was generally well liked. I don't think I ever stated that he ever had a [censored] clue what was going on.

He was protected from the worst excesses , rather like the Last Emperor of China was depicted in the film, but like say the Dalai Llama pre Chinese invasion, he leaps on any foreigners who break through the carefully constructed net that prevents them getting through. I don't see Anora being aware of what it means to be poor except in the obligation one has to protect her from harm. Cailan would sit down, shoot the breeze over a keg of dwarven ale and eagerly learn from whatever experiences you have to share, Anora wants your vote.
Cailan is outward looking, willing to adapt to a changing Ferelden fresh out of bondage, Anora is a self obsessed schemer who regards each revolution of the world as mistaken if it deviates from her flight path.

There aren't really any instant cheats for it. Did you buy some more from Sandal?

I hate to say the obvious, but when the game puts characters in front of you who can join your party, it's intended that you do so.

I just realized today that the three characters that I've finished DA with were all mages. I'm going to have to take my dwarven characters and human nobles to the endgame. I've created nine characters so far, since the various origin stories are among the game's greatest strengths IMO.

Has anyone noticed whether party members left in camp are influenced by choices you make?
Spoiler
For instance, will an "in camp" Wynne drop her approval if you free the blood mage in the Redcliffe Castle dungeon?

No, but depending on certain decisions party members might confront you based on whether or not they approve of the action.
The way you handle the subsequent conversation is where the approval drops come in.

Such as
Spoiler
Zevran and the Dalish Camp (if you massacred them)

You know what, I think in the end it doesn't matter if Anora remains Queen. Grey Wardens should stay out of politics and only concern themselves with slashing Darkspawn. So let the hag have her throne of that backwater country called Ferelden.

I just had a similar situation (Morrigan casted Storm of the Century, aggroed the Archdemon and died in two seconds!...so I pretty much had to beat it without her with two warriors and Leliana)...just move your whole party to one of the ballistas (the ones that face the "phase 2" landing spot will do)...set your tank to run interference for any wandering darkspawn, have Leliana attack the archdemon at range, and have your main shoot the ballistas...everytime it locks up, have Leliana repair it while your main attacks the archdemon with a bow...once its health is critical, you might want to just attack it at melee range (watch out for any hurlock or genlock alphas!)...but since you don't have a lot of health poultices, you might also want to hang back and let your armies take the brunt of the action (try seeing if you can buy more poultices from Sandal...and did you check all the chests right before the door to the archdemon? There is a ton of goodies that'll help you out)

Remember to use your armies and you should be fine...mages are really awesome, but the game is designed so any class can win...if you have to, drop it to easy so you don't have to repair the ballistas...good luck!

Edit:

I hate to say the obvious, but when the game puts characters in front of you who can join your party, it's intended that you do so.

I don't think that's necessarily true...especially in this game...I didn't get Wynne in my first play through because it didn't fit my roleplay...I think a problem with DAO is that there should have been one more mage and/or rogue...

I agree - I know several people who did not pick up Wynne as a party member, or simply slew Zevran after first meeting up with him...
I do love the idea of a magical mabari though! :twirl: "Marked for Death" - your hound pees on the leg of an enemy, immobilizing them and dealing steady damage. "So Hungwy!" - your hound makes big, sad eyes, and looks pleadingly at the enemy that he is temporarily immobilized by doggie adorableness.

In the later stages in the battle against the Archdemon, some prominent NPCs join the action. Irving's one of them, and others can include Arl Eamon, Swiftrunner, Gregoir, Kardol, and probably a few others.

Technically, yes, Grey Wardens are supposed to be an apolitical organization whose only concern is fighting the Darkspawn and defending against the Blight. In practice, though, they have no choice but to rub elbows with rulers and politicians, if they want any support (and in the Anderfels, the Grey Wardens are practically the ones who run things). Now, if they help Anora take the throne (
Spoiler
and possibly take her daddy into their ranks
), one would think she owes them a few favors, but being as she's quite willing to backstab anyone to get what she wants, she doesn't seem like the most dependable ally. And since the other choice for the throne is
Spoiler
someone who will become a former Grey Warden in doing so
, I think, for the Wardens' purposes, the choice is pretty clear.

I don't think you can become
Spoiler
a former Gray Warden... you are one, or you aren't. I always find it an interesting thing to wonder how it will play out, for the fact that Alistair, and/or his Queen, if he marries the human female noble, have a high probability of being childless and also, after 25 or 30 years max, both will end up battling darkspawn down in the Deep Roads, rather than let the taint consume them.
Would set up a nice power vacuum in the future, possibly.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

Also, another thing. I have a redemption code for The Stone Prisoner downloadable content addon, but my Xbox is telling me it needs to be like 25 letters or something, while the code I think is only 20.

One of the biggest loopholes to being a Greywarden. Sure, your a Graywarden for life, but no one says you can't be other things. ;)

Looking back on the game I find it an ironic thing. I mean for people who want to stay out of politics they sure as hell don't seem to try very hard. :P

Yeah...in my first play through, I told Leliana to shove off, killed Wynne in self-defense, and decided to kill Zevran out of principle...and I didn't really suffer gameplay wise (my main was a rogue)

I'm really hoping that of the five new party members in Awakening, only one of them is a warrior (
Spoiler
since Oghren is rumored to be in Awakening, right?
)...the ratio was way out of whack in Origins

Yup, pretty well known. :)

So... random question... in the Ruined Temple, during the Ashes quest, at some point you find a black pearl, which ends up in your quest items inventory section. I have never noticed a related quest for that - is there one?
