Fix the lag please...

Post » Mon Oct 11, 2010 11:46 am

yeah im pretty sure crytek knows they dropped the ball. cause i KNOW they cant be "proud" of this god damn dreck.

i just hope they can alleviate some of the lag, its puzzling how stupid it is. **** ridiculous crysvck. 6v6 is a super low player count too. does. not. compute.

i'll still play this **** and all, but waht dah hewl.

I think the high amount of lag in this game is caused by how much is going on at any given time. Bullets are simulated instead of hitscan (which is great. Please don't make it hitscan), the 3 different suit modes, visor tags, the possibility of the suit-arms lock while ADS, footstep tracking (for the module), and so on.

I'm not going to assume I know anything about how this game is coded, but here's some suggestions I think would help:

1. Make the shotguns' pellets disappear after a set distance. I hate to suggest following Black Ops lead on anything to do with shotguns, but the min damage these have is so low that it might as well be 0, so just make it so. Thats 7/8 less bullets to track.

2. Take away some of the suit abilities that are massively underused, such as the lock arms feature

3. I really like tagging and how it could be useful, but maybe it, too?

tagging would of been better if you just look down your ads and do it, you dont get time in a multiplayer match to just stand there defencelessly tapping the square button. Personally i think the only way to fix the lag problem in this game is to provide dedicated servers because as you said theres just to much going on at one time. As for the framerate i dont ever see there being a fix for this, its not like a pc where you can just turn down some settings to increase fps, ive heard people mention that vertical sync is enabled this is just silly because there is no way the game could match the 100fps framerate for 100hz tvs.

To summarise

> provide ded servers for lag and hit detection so everyone has a balanced connection with no host carrying 11 players.
> Tagging should of been like battlefield were you just point at the guy and tap select
> Framerate will not be fixed!!! unless they actually reduce graphics quality or effects not needed for multiplayer ( post processing or anti-aliasing) personally i wouldnt mind if objects corners were a little jagged if it would improve framerate.
> You people need to remember that this game was designed for pc and were basically playing it on 5 year old pc's. No memory updates no graphics updates just old pc's!!!

The last point you made is a good one that I didn't even think about. For all of consoles' strengths, processing power isn't one of them.

Doesnt' matter what your connection is, you could have a 100Mbps connection but it's your latency that counts. If you have a high ping then it will be crap.

theres lag everywhere, even in the freaking menu's. i mean seriously?!

this dreck will die quick if the lag is not addressed. i mean, can YOU even play this? surely you can't be "proud" of this ****? the number of peak players online HAS to be embarrassing, no?

and i will continue to bellyache and whine until you fix your stupid video game.

words cannot describe how mad this **** gets me.

I agree with the thread creator, the single player is pretty good but the multiplayer is almost 100% ****.

To date, I think Halo: Reach has the best netcode which results in smooth gameplay for both the host and the connected players. I never understood why other games like BO, KZ3, and C2 had lag. Why not just copy what Bungie did? I'm part of a Halo clan, so I thought why not ask around to see what the secret is all about. Turns out, it's not much of a secret and the information is very much public.

http://www.bungie.net/Inside/publications.aspx

Scroll down until you see an article called "I Shot You First! - Gameplay Networking in Halo: Reach". You can just download/open the abbreviated version of the presentation and David Aldridge explains how he designed the netcode to make lag unnoticeable/insignificant. Why am I posting this here, because there's nothing the players can do with this information? I just figured someone from Crytek might be reading this post and take notes. I don't complain about the lag for Crysis 2 since it doesn't affect me much, but I do know that it's a problem for many others on these forums.

not going to download any of that, you are asking too much from strangers.

the key here is to quote the info in a post, that way people who are viewing will actually access the information and contribute to your thread. instead of hitting the back key, which is what i thought about doing.

i mean 35 views and not a single response? lulz people are lazy dawwg, gotta know how to tickle the interest bone lol.

Just playing, I know you're just trying to help. The thing is that the abbreviated powerpoint is pretty long in itself, and nearly every slide pertains to lag. I fully understand if players don't want to look at it, and I also understand if most don't even understand it. What I do hope is that Crytek themselves take a look inside. They would be the ones to benefit most from this information. From what I hear, they pay more attention to these forums than to the e-mails people send them.

Um guys one question: how bad is your internet connection? This is the only game where I never drop below three bars. It's not crytek's fault if you have bad Internet speed.

a solid three bar connection at all times pretty much, cept those games where everyone has red and host has full bars. not using wifi either. maybe being able to search for games that are closer to where you live would help. we'll never know..

i think the problem's also that practically no one plays the other modes. because hardly anyone is willing to invest any time to play this game and rank up. i mean, im only rank 26-ish with like 17 hours of online gameplay, and i'm already ranked #9995 in exp on the leader boards. got dayum!

that means there are a ton of people who played this game for a little while and gave up on online really quick, and i certainly don't blame them.
