25+ Fps on Crysis Very High 4x AA. Highly recommended. Much better than the 5770 and it has Physx, CUDA and DX11. Plus the stock EVGA model is overclocked.

psst. the hd5770 has dx11 too, and physX + CUDA are worth about as much to anyone except computational modellers as the sticker on the card.

Anyway, the hd5770 and gts450 are pretty much both avoid cards anyway to be honest, jumping to a gtx460 or hd6850 is definitely worth the money in every way.

Woah GTS 450 is definitely not better than the 5770 except maybe in DX11 gaming because of Fermi architecture but hats only when tessellation is used which is currently mostly a benchmarking stunt. It IS however better than the 5750. I've seen the frame rate results and benchmarking results and the 5770 wins hands down. You probably had bad drivers if you had problems with you 5770. AMD is not known for their drivers, they are either hit or miss.
Edit: i found proof as well:

Scroll down to benchmarks 5770 definitely outperforms the 450 especially in crysis.

Personally, I'd stick with Gts/Gtx series on this one..

The EVGA GTS 450 is only a little bit worse than the 5770 performance wise. Perhaps maybe a 1-2 fps difference.

Yes 1 fps difference. Compared to the 5770 now, it's a 1998 1mb card.

Is a gaming laptop with a Gtx 580m (in the near future) a bit overkill?
