Game no longer recognizes my magic resistance after patch

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 12:04 pm

Bumping this thread for massive awareness.

Bethesda needs to know that this issue strikes at the core of the gameplay
for many character builds and a framerate/dragon animation fix alone will not
be enough for mages, elemental enemies, or anyone who values resistance
whatsoever in this game.

You know, Murat91, instead of assuming the guy is lying, why don't you ask more questions. Like his save file size, the level he's playing at, his ps3 model, etc. Things that might pinpoint why he's not having problems and you are. He might be playing on the easiest level and it's not having the effect. Who knows? It beats sarcasm for pettiness sake.

its pretty damn obvious this problem occured after patch 2 and i tested it with new and old character and its still there. if it was some one else i would ask about his filesize or how he played, but he has been poppin in threads denying about lag issues, and other gme bugs majority are having. HMMM i want his ps3 because he certainly has NONE of the bugs everyone else is suffering from.

As I showed in the video that's been linked a couple of times in this thread and others, the way to test if it's ****ed is if you can summon an atronach and it takes damage from an element the same type as it. If Flame spells work on a Fire Atronach? Yep, you're affected. Like I said in the video, I didn't even know about it because I don't play a character with resistance in the slightest, nor do I summon, so how could I have known. But I'm not going to defend them for it because it IS AN ISSUE even if it doesn't affect my playstyle. Some people can't be bothered to have a ward up constantly so they deal with magic in other ways. That's the beauty of what Bethesda advertised. There's so many options for what you want to be, and this glitch takes away SO MANY options for anyone not playing a lower difficulty that's way too easy.

I'm sorry if this has been asked or reported before but i did'nt see it mentioned. Does the new bug, the removed magical resistance, apply to characters created post patch or is it limited to pre-existing characters?

I'm trying to decide weather to ditch my current char. I would really rather not as i have 150+hrs invested in him. :banghead:

It applies to everything. Old characters. New characters. Borrowed characters. Blue characters. Nonplayer characters. Creatures. Post-patch, anything that is supposed to resist shock, fire, frost, magic, poison, or disease doesn't do so.

If you thought there was supposed to be a connection between the save-file-size-indicates-eventual-lag-issue and the magic resistance issue, you were connecting dots that were not meant to be connected. There is absolutely zero correlation between save size and magic resistance.

OK good to see this I'm playing on master and I can't even ***spoiler****** do the college of winterhold quest where you go to labayriithin or how ever you spell it to get that staff of magnus, when I get to that hallway to with all the spells I get smashed even with high Magi resistance and fire resistance. Also I still lag like a mofo.

I have a question for those who observed the magic resistance glitch: Was this phenomenon occurring after loading old save files? Does it occur after starting a New Game?

I just answered that question twenty-four minutes and four posts above yours!

Dammit! Oh, well. I've got Assassin's Creed Revelations, Dark Souls, and a few other new games to keep me busy i suppose.
I love the Assassin's Creed series and was looking forward to AC:R in a big way. Thing is i just can't concentrate on it because what i really want to play is Skyrim. But this magical resistence bug was the final straw for me. I can't fight any type of magical enemy as i either get one shotted or get to run around for a minute or two hiding and chugging health potions, until i'm all out of hiding places and potions, then get killed in about two seconds.

I've emailed Bethesda Customer Support 3 times since the 13.11.11, when i started to experience game breaking lag, and i've yet to recieve any response. I really don't want to return the game as it has quickly become one of, if not my #1, all time favourite game(s). I don't see what else i can do though since Bethesda will not even acknowledge i, nor any other fan with a broken game, even exists, will not answer any queries about fixing it and will not even issue a statement saying "we realise there are some issues, we're sorry about that, we'll try and fix it as fast as we can."

I mean is that too much to ask? Really?

This is... kind of amazing. I mean, isn't this unprecedented? Did they even test the patch? The patch came out so quickly that it's obvious they knew of the lagging problems before launch. I can understand the patch being a temporary fix while they looked up the memory leak issue, but for the patch to destroy resistances?

I'm not a person who calls for people's heads, but this is such a serious issue, someone needs to get fired. Or at the very least reprimanded, but I guess we'll never know. Bethesda has to come out and speak to either us or the media and soon. Skyrim could have been so amazing. Even with all these issues, I STILL want to go back and play.

Well I figure they'll have to throw out another quick one to fix all the new problems they created witht his patch before christmas so it won't be totally broken for the kids who get it then or shortly afterwards with christmas money. So they're going to have to rush cause it seems like it takes about a week to get verified by sony/ms. So that doesn't give them much time to bust it out and if they do it'll probably break a lot of other [censored] they didn't consider.

Or they won't get it out in time and all those who get it for christmas will get a broken mess and that'll land them even more bad press. I'm interested to see how bad this all gets.

I actually noticed something weird regarding resistances. I"m a Nord, but lately the inborn frost resistance has seemed...less. I chocked it up to enemies leveling up. I was being attacked by lightning recently and recieved little to no damage.....and I'm wearing nothing that is enchanted to make me resistant to lightning. It was a dragon priest, so it wasn't a low level spell. My severe lag seems to be better most of the time, but is by no means gone. I haven't run into the backwards dragons, but apparentl everyone's resistances are being negated while I'm gaining shock resistance for no apparent reason....lol

Okay, so I started a new game on a brand new PS3. My old PS3, a fat 40gb model, died on me last night playing Skyrim. lol. Lost all my data so I have no excuse but to start fresh.

So I'm using a Nord character to test resistances later. However, I had heard that fire does more than double-damage now. I tried it out right away but found fire doing it's normal 8 damage/sec rate. I'm still extremely early in the game, and I will update as soon as I encounter anything strange. I'm making a bee-line towards a fire summon so I can test it's resistance.

As an update I can now confirm that starting a new game from a fresh install does not prevent this bug from taking place.

New PS3, new install, new game, I used the frostbite spell on the draugers in Bleak Falls Barrow. Before the patch the Draugers resisted this spell, now it takes as much damage from it as if it were a fire spell. Totally ruinous development. The poor Mage I had on my old PS3 wouldn't have stood a chance post-patch. Ugh.
