Game no longer recognizes my magic resistance after patch

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 1:52 pm

before the patch my magic resistance stats were through the roof. after the patch my stats still say theyre through the roof but enemy spells now do more damage to my pure mage then physical attacks do...wtf?

I have the same issue, my magic resitances do nothing or possibly hurt me, how the hell did they screw that up? Needs to be fixed immediately.

Seriously what the hell? I just logged on to see if anyone else is having this problem. Was playing for a while to see if my lag went away (it did for about 2 hours now it's back) and I was noticing that I was getting absolutely punished by any kind of magic. I could usually fight mages and stand up to dragon breath no problem. Now a couple hits from a mage or one ancient dragon breath and I'm almost dead. I've tried adding specific element resist gear, using the lord stone, having them on AND off and it doesn't make a difference. No matter what I'm getting my ass handed to me. Is magic resist just completely gone or has spell damage been upped that much?

I can report that the same thing is happening to my Nord. One ice breath from an ancient dragon OHKO my level 54 Nord, who has about 550 health.

I wonder if it was an attempt to make breath weapons penetrate magical resistances and they screwed that up rather than just fixing something and breaking another. Either way, they need to fix it.

Before the patch I beefed up magic resistance to great effect and now it seems to be all for naught. I'd like to know if they tweaked with this to make the game harder. If so you'd think they would mention it in the patch agenda. This is surely a great big stuff up that needs pronto fixing.

I can honestly say I was VERY surprised when a Frost Dragon nearly killed me in one breath while I'm a level 42 breton with the shield of Solitude, and wearing full nightingale armor. Something's up here as I could easily handle a frost Dragon's breath attack before.

So I tested this a little further by making some gear and potions to resist frost, fire, and shock damage by 100%. I tried fighting 3 different casters to see the effects of all the different types of spells. Whether I had 100% resist or 0 (I couldn't try frost resist at 0 being a Nord but I'm quite sure it doesn't matter) I found that at 550 health, 2 hits from any school of magic were taking me down to between 10-20% health. Seeing as before the patch I could just stand in front of a caster and do nothing without fear of being destroyed in 2 seconds I'd say something is seriously messed up. I enjoy a challenge too but this is pretty rediculous.

The patch for 360 and PC users will be up soon. Let's wait a few more days and see if they are experiencing the same issue, or is this isolated to PS3 owners with 1.2 installed. On a side note, I tried to uninstall the patch but it doesn't work. When I try to load a previous save file before installing the patch it simply says the game needs to be updated before proceeding.

We're majorly screwed if this issue is ignored in future patches.

I was taking disproportionate amounts of elemental damage after the patch, and at first I thought that maybe they just beefed up dragons. This morning I did a quick test by attacking my atronachs with damage spells of their respective element and they died in a couple of hits. So after investing some 20-odd perks and a huge amount of time into enchanting, alchemy and alteration to make master difficulty survivable, I might as well throw all that resist gear and potions out and instead enjoy watching my level 54 breton get one-shotted by every damn mage. Thanks, Bethesda.

The spiked lags are huge gameplay ruiner for me. Especially when I'm in a fight against a dragon with the local folk who are able to fight.

The same is happening to me...patch fixed my lag issue ( my problems with skyrim and my old 60 giga PS3: 11Mb filesave, 90 ours playtime, lag issue after 2h and 2 dragons didn't gave me their souls, nothing else, I was lucky) but then a frost dragon kicked my ass so badly!!! I had good protection against frost and magic...it was my 3rd frost dragon, the former did me very low damage with frost breath so I went towards this one very self reliant...but...very bad surprise with my health!!! WTH????

Hm now I'm concerned. I will have to check it out as my Breton seemed last night to get hit with magic alot more. I could normally, easily, take on a caster w/o worrying, and a fight against a Master Necro had me near death which never happened before.

I'm having the issue as well!! A fire breathing elder or ancient dragon will destroy me with one breath. That is with 100% fire resistance and some major Daedric armor. It only takes 2 direct hits of an ice spike from a mage, and I'm toast as well. Again that's with 90% frost resistance.
I'm a level 52 Nord but now I'm as a weak as a level 1!!!

I created a nord mage last night and went around doing jobs for the college, now when I came across mages using frost bite they took me down in like 3 seconds of concentrated fire.

The most notable thing I thought was odd was that I was hurting my flame atronach with my flame spells. now aren't atronachs immune to their respective elements?

Or if not totally immune shouldn't they have high resistance? I took my flame girl down with flames spell in 5 seconds multiple times to test it.

No resistance in either case :/ the reason I use her with flames is cause it shouldn't hurt and I like to go a little crazy with flames.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Just wanted to add my voice to this thread, as I'm pretty sure this is happening to me as well :(

Installed 1.2 patch yesterday evening, had only just started getting minor lag issues on Sunday (55hrs approx play time) and the patch does seem to have resolved that. However, I too got completely owned by a frost dragon after installing the patch, when before though maybe not quite a walk in the park, was definitely doable. Possibly just a fluke but having seen this thread, now I'm a bit worried....

I'm not quite as high level as some of you guys yet - I'm a Level 19 Breton with 40% frost resistance helmet, plus 18% magic resist armour (pretty sure they both stack with my 25% breton bonus, giving me 83% in total for frost?). In the past I've been able to take a decent dragon breath hit with my health bar hardly moving at all - last night one breath and it almost wiped me out, I kept having to run and hide like a little girl while I built my health back up !

Definitely need to test this a bit more with some extended play, but seriously, if this patch has wiped out the magic resistance, this needs to be fixed and soon !

Aff I am using a Ranger/Stealth charachter but even I noticed that mages are doing alot more damage than normal and my potions were not doing anything to stop it :( I fixed that by knocking them down before they were in range wtih my bow and then whacking them over the head with my mace, that seemed to work :)

It's not just the resistances of the player that are ignored but every creature/NPC/character in the game. It renders a large part of the game completely useless.

Wouldn't it be awesome if patches were tested before release?
