Game no longer recognizes my magic resistance after patch

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 5:04 am

No problem. Like I mentioned in the video, none of this personally affected me (I'm a stealth-class Argonian and haven't bothered with resistance enchants) but it SEVERELY affects warriors, mages, and races who depend on their resistances...

For a game that prides itself on you being whomever you want, having only one truly usable playstyle for ANY length of time is highly crippling to anyone who doesn't want to play on Novice difficulty...and to think, I was about to roll a Breton Conjurer class if this turned out to be a false rumor...

Hm, has anybody else tried starting a new game to test this? I started a totally fresh game (clean install and everything) earlier today and the magic resistance stuff seems to be working fine this time.

Try it with an Atronach before going to a message board about it, they're supposed to be immune to their particular element. First off, you aren't going to notice a difference if you aren't a Breton, Nord, or Dark Elf (though I'm assuming you are judging from your post). But the only real way to know for sure without some kind of skew in perception is going to be by trying to Fry a Flame Atronach or Ice a Frost Atronach.

Also, if the only solution is to restart the entire game, well um, no. I'm 20-30 hours in, I've finished several questlines, including the Eye of Magnus. I'm not going back to square one because Beth completely screwed up a basic game mechanic. Looks like I'll be playing BF 3 for quite awhile now, sigh. It's probably too late to get a refund on my game, but I am seriously thinking of returning it. This is creeping closer and closer to a class action suit for ps3 owners at the least.

Yeah that's exactly how I just tried it, with a flame atronach that I summoned. No damage at all from fire. But on an older pre-patch save that I had loaded up this morning my flame atronach was getting thrashed by fire.

So possible solutions are:

1. Start over

2. Play another game

Really? A response from Bethesda would be nice at this point. For mage/warrior characters this is game breaking. It reminds me of their "solutions" on the support page when people get stuck in some endless quest loop: "Just revert to an earlier save," never mind if you have to lose 10 hours of play. Problem fixed! Seriously, what a joke. If this was a car that couldn't turn left, Beth would tell you to just make 3 right turns. Problem solved!

They have responded specifically tto this problem to indicate it is being looked into. That's more than any other bug that's currently being complained about so I'd call that a pretty decent response.

Oh good that's a relief so they'll chuck out a patch that fixes it but won't and then your arrows won't shoot.

Wilco, I hear you. Some of this is just my frustration leaking through. I'm fine with some small bugs, but I paid a decent amount of money for something that is currently a coaster. This isn't some subtle, complicated glitch that only happens under the right cirucmstances. It's all resistances, for all players, NPCs and characters conjured. How was that not QAed in the test before the patch went live. I mean it took me like 10 minutes to notice it. First fight post-patch, conjure flame atronach, dual cast fireball, whomp, she's dead. It's also frustrating to have a supposed "fix" break the game for me. This on top of their proposed solution for the MQ/Stormcloaks infinite loop (i.e. start over) is sort of a joke. I'm honestly terrified playing the game now, what if I go explore some cave, pick up the wrong item and break something like the Companions quest line, but I'll only find out 40 hours from now when I get halfway through it? It's just not that fun to play anymore, and it's *purely* because of these game breaking bugs. Again, small glitches, fine. Broken main quest? Impossible to play as a mage? no, sorry, that's not ok.

I play as a Nord. I should have a 50% to cold based attacks. Before the patch i had no trouble facing any enemy using these types of attack. Now i am being absolutley destroyed by any type of magical attack be it cold based, fire based, whatever.
Potions offering resistance to magical attacks also have no effect. Neither do any shields or apparel.

I did'nt think it was possible to break a broken game. Bethesda has proven me wrong.

So is it safe to remove the patch, would the unpatched game (1.1) recognize patched game's saves properly?
I have the SSD and I don't care about lags, I've only hoped the patch would fix some bugs\glitches, but it has completely ruined the game. I can't play my mage now.

How the hell Bugthesda doing such weirdness, huh? How the hell it is possible in million bux profit studio like this? Damn it...
Don't they bother theirselves hiring some testers?

Dear PS3 user,

We would like to extend our gratitude to you for participating in beta testing for the 1.2 patch. Thanks to your efforts, 360 users will be able to receive a refined version of the patch that actually addresses several issues with the game. Don't worry about your broken save files, we here at Bethesda have found a solution to the problem: take the game out of the system, and use it as a coaster for your drinks.

Sincerely,
Bethesda

I might have to rinse and repeat on Skyrim, meaning deleting all my saves than start a completely new char. I started having some real bothersome issues after the firmware update 4.0 if this doesnt work I guess I will finally move to Assassin Creed Revelation. The only problem I have with that is, but Skyrim is so awesome how can I go around assassinating after I experienced killing Dragons and being a force of destruction.

Unfortunately no... I tried that last night and none of the saves will load now with 1.1... even those not re-saved or even loaded with 1.2 :(

Seriously not cool... and no I'm not prepared to restart after 55 hours of play even if that does fix it. Only solution that's acceptable to me is that it gets fixed, gets fixed quickly, and fixes my current character.

I'm almost to my breaking point. I'm waiting for one more patch. If there happens to be one more game breaking glitch- I think I may just lose
it and just trade off my garbage of a copy right now.

It's not the game's fault- it's an amazing game. I have bones to pick with whoever messed up the Magic Resistance and whoever thought
"minor tweaks to the computer's memory limitations" was going to fix the framerate issue.

Is there any way we can bring this to Bethesda attention? I remember the insane amount of spam Pete Hine's got- which I'm sure helped
send the message across. We may have to do that again...

Bethesda... You disappoint me...

Haha this [censored] mess of a game. I guess I shouldn't even bother trying to finish "The black star" quest cause all my enemys use magic and most of them can kill me instantly. Not to mention the lag in the first dungeon considering all the water the ps3 can't deal with. I've never seen my health fly down so fast. You literally can't do anything to save yourself if you start getting blasted. I almost feel like you're messing with us at this point its so bad.

Something that I just read on another forum gave me an idea .... possibly the reason the pre 1.2 saves aren't working after uninstalling 1.2 is because they need 1.1 which was also uninstalled with the 1.2 uninstall? No idea if it's possible to get 1.1 downloaded seperately now (maybe outside ps3 and onto USB stick), but maybe if that was reinstalled we could go back to a pre-1.2 save? I know that wouldn't work for everyone they'd still lose too much play time or have the lag problem re-introduced but maybe a stop gap for some people?

I'm on my way to work now and will see if I can at least find the 1.1 patch as a separate download, but if anyone else can get hold of this they could check it out too?

Personally I'd be very interested to see if the pc/xbox patch gets delayed now ... on the face of it at least this latest issue doesn't appear to be directly related to the ps3-specific lag problem so if it is an all-platform bug seeing the others delayed would at least (I hope) be an implicit acknowledgement of this game-breaking bug with the implication we could expect a fix pretty soon... not that I'm expecting any kind if explicit acknowledgment but anything will do right now!!

So I put ridiculously long time to level up the enchanting, alchemy and smithing sorely to buff up my MR and ER and
now it's all gone and useless because of that stupid patch that is going to fix some minor problems that nobody cared rather than fixing
the fatal problems like CTD, optimization issues and quest breaking bugs?

I think it's time to consider the possibility that one of the dev guys is a spy from the corporate rival.

I just was in Greywater Gorge when I realized something is weird. The Mages with the ice spikes almost oneshot my Nord, and at the end the Flame Atronach appeared, set the flammable ground on fire and died before I could even hit him. :/

well i went outside whiterun and summoned a flame atronarch.. killed it in two firebolt spells.. yet when it exploded my health bar barely moved and i don't seem to have an issue with mage spells cast against me.

lvl31 Bosmer battle mage build, and only 210 base health... gone up agaisnt a few mage areas and came out without losing much health.. soooo this is weird..

Bethesda please fix bug.. i use flame atronarch as an initial aggro target in alot of places.. and if it can kill itself with one of it's own spells.. well you get the point.

I feel for you guys I really do. I'm playing the 360 version right now, and at 100 plus hours its finally unplayable. As before that I was literally glitch free. And now Dragons not giving me souls(experienced in both versions), the letrush NPC multiplying to 5 now in front of white run stables, and now the patch breaks resistances....I have both versions of the game... the PS3 version the lag got to me early on, so i bought the 360 version, and now when the 360 patch comes it will be F'd up too I'm sure, again I feel for those of us bought this crap :(
