Game no longer recognizes my magic resistance after patch

Hmm. I thought it was odd that I managed to poison a vampire.

I just posted about this in my thread.

75 percent magic resistance and the shield perk block elemental damage. Level 29.

I just got killed really fast with a shock spell on two different occasions. Also, the shield blocked nothing against dragon breath. Dragon breath nearly kills me now. Low level mages, I can deal with. High level, I have to use stealth. Dragons are a pain either way now.

And to think, this was originally supposed to be a wizard slayer class...

I will not be updating on Xbox until this has been cleared up. My mage's follower will become an utterly useless waste of resources, instead of a useful aggro magnet that I can't hurt with spells.
How can something this bad get through testing?

Sadface, Just going to add that my capped magic resist and fire/shock resists aren't working at all either. LV73 High Elf.

Guess I'll be stun locking dragons until the next patch lol.

We're investigating.

So you can break the game even further? High hopes here. (not)

I noticed last night (after patch). Playing a Nord, they supposedly have 50% resistance to cold, which I assume means some resistance to magical cold spells. Got my butt handed to me getting hit with two of the spells that cause the big icicle in the body. Down almost instantly, so that was new. Been hit with some nasty cold before without this much of an issue.

Was talking to my friend who just bought the game. He's lower level and was mentioning how no potion/enchanted armor was helping him prevent magical damage as they should, and they (like my experience) were knocking him down much faster than before. He had to avoid a few quests since he can't get by the enemies. For instance, magical protection from cold doesn't help the ice breath of a dragon or mage spells.

Hopefully there's a solution to this one.

What's this? Bethesda making an appearance on the PS3 forums? Well I'm certainly confused how this made the list of things to respond too and not the many, many threads about the lag.

So, Magic Resistance, Fire/frost/shock resistance, and poison Resistance are down and out, huh? I'll be refusing the patch now, thanks for the warning. The cure is worse than the disease and this is one I can resist.

But out of idle curiosity - people who have been infected with the patch... can you test to see if disease resistance is still applied? Weakness to fire/frost/shock?

Same here.
Seems my Breton/Alteration combo is rendered useless thanks to this patch,
Really frustrated with Bethesda...

Just got home to test properly and I can confirm that I am definitely affected by this bug :( :(

I went back to a save from during the fight with the frost dragon from last night and allowed myself to feel the full force of the frost breath both with and without the frost resist helmet (swapping it with a fire resist helmet to give similar armour rating) - I took the same amount of damage both times - the additional frost resist was completely ignored :(

Just as an aside, I didn't quite remember my resist effects correctly earlier - I actually have +25% breton magic resist, +25% Lord Stone magic resist, +30% frost resist from helm. Even so, the test above and previous experience with frost dragons tells me there is a substantial difference in damage taken pre and post patch install.... really hoping this will be fixed very soon, I do think this game is completely awesome and just want to get back to playing it properly.

Weird all my resistances seem to be ok, no more trouble with mages than I normally have and various creatures seem to have the same resistance to my spells as usual.

Haven't been hit with fire post patch, just frost and shock. The frost really did a number (when that should be his resistance), the shock seemed about 'normal' I think. Had two things going on at once, got my butt handed to me initially, restarted and paid attention, it was the ice that got me. Got hit with the shock a few times, didn't seem as detrimental. Maybe for damage it's only frost.

I can confirm that 100% disease resistance from being a werewolf still works(I let a skeever attack me for 10 minutes and didn't contract anything). Not sure about gear disease resistance though.

I'm currently doing a quest where I happened across a lightning mage(Hamelyn) who was hitting me pretty hard exclusively using shock/lightning magic. I wear full magic resist(85%) and shock/frost resist atm(50%).

I can confirm this is a patch issue. Before the 1.2 patch, I equipped my companion with armor that gave her Fire Resistance 104%, Frost Resistance 102%, and Shock Resistance 104%.

Before the 1.2 patch I tested out this armor by attacking my companion with all three elements and each time it would display "Lydia resists -insert spell name-" in the top left corner of the screen and she wouldn't even get angry at me.
After patch 1.2 she takes just as much damage with or without the armor.

This is a big issue for me because the main reason I created the armor was so I could use Storm Call out in the wild since its the only place you can without pissing the world off. The only issue was your companion would usually die in the process, and I used resistances to work around that. Now I'm back to Lydia dieing everytime I use that shout, making it not worth either using the shout or taking her along with me.

Anybody know if there's a relatively easy-to-find armor that has a high resistance on any of the mentioned problem spells that could be tried from a brand new game?

I registered just to add a post to this topic. I play a conjuration/destruction mage and frequently send in my Flame Atronach to tank for me while I hurl fireball spells into the pile of enemies. This has never been a problem until after the patch. Now my fireball spells kill my Flame Atronach in 2 hits. Shouldn't they be immune to flame? I assume this is the same problem that has screwed up people's magic resistance on their armor and characters.

I think the two spells that did me in were shock spells. Also, I got rock joint a little while ago, so I don't know if the werewolf disease resist was supposed to prevent that or not.

I've got the official guide and I've just checked.. both conjurered and standard flame atronachs should be immune to fire...

I am having the same problems with my atronachs. It's a pretty serious issue for me, since I use them to tank and then hurl in the corresponding spell they are immune to for splash damage. Though I suppose I can now freeze frost trolls to my heart's content...

Well, then we definitely have a problem. I even conjured her up in the middle of nowhere and blasted her just to check, and yep, she takes what looks like full damage from fire spells.

Yep my flame atronach takes damage from flames as well. Going to try starting a brand new game and see if the same is true there, maybe this is some unexpected funkiness connected to pre-patch saves.

Has anybody tried uninstalling the patch and going back to a save that was saved before the patch was installed?

I've seen where someone has done this on a recent save (presumably saved post-patch) and got the message along the lines of "save file needs a later version" and the save wouldn't load. But what about removing the patch and then loading a save that hasn't been touched since the patch was installed? I didn't play for long last night so wouldn't have to go back very far at all to a pre-patch save. If this works I'm inclined to go for this as a temporary solution until the magic resist bug is fixed - I was only getting very minor lag problems pre-patch and right now for me this is most definitely the least serious problem of the two issues.

Think I might give it a go, I presume worst case is I just have to reinstall the patch again if previous saves don't work?

huh.. weird.. since i purchased the game i have mild lag issues after entering/exiting towns, nothign seriosuly bad , just wait a second or two and then move and everythign fine, post patch 1.2 and i can take on a draogn liek a champ.. although i noticed draugr are weak as hell to flame ( moreso then usual) although the bigger badder draugr baddies take a few fire runes to finally blow up so it seems my game is still fien in that aspect ( level 31 bosmer battlemage build in full daedric armor with NO resistance buffs) although the one dragon encounter i had the giant joined in.. then later killed my dog.. no corpse.. was sent orbiting skyrim.. i feel for you guys, bethesda is pissing aroudn and needs to get their coders to understand "yes", "no" logic as that is what most of the programmign is.
