Game no longer recognizes my magic resistance after patch

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 11:58 am

I use to pwn the dragon priests with my lvl41 imperial but now I can't even move without getting one shotted by them and other mages alike. But the worst part is the dragons. I go through so many potions just trying to stay alive. I know the magic resist is messed up and I demand it get fixed. But also the armor rating doesn't seem to be working as well. 2 chomps from a dragon and im dead. I have daedric armor that is heavily enchanted and now it's just dead weight. Thanks Bethesda.

I am having the same problems with my atronachs. It's a pretty serious issue for me, since I use them to tank and then hurl in the corresponding spell they are immune to for splash damage. Though I suppose I can now freeze frost trolls to my heart's content...

that was funny. lmao

Has anybody tried uninstalling the patch and going back to a save that was saved before the patch was installed?

Sorry folks, just tested this out and it doesn't work. Even tried to load a save file that wasn't even opened with the post-patch version but it also came up with the "need newer version to load" error. Looks like all saved files are affected then so we're stuck with this until a fix is released.... guess it's time to do some smithing chores and the like round town until it's safe to venture further afield ;)

So is it just an impression or this is happening to EVERYONE who installed the patch?

Something I've been wondering too... it does seem that every person who's posted is saying they have the problem, so that is definitely the impression I'm getting that this is affecting everyone. So is there anyone out there who can confirm for definite that their magic/elemental resist IS working post patch?

Well my magic resistance is like 10% so I didn't notice changes. Tonight I'll craft some armor and enchant it all with MAGIC RESISTANCE and go test it out!
When I'm done I'll post the results here.

Well, getting hit with massive ice didn't drop me in two seconds before. Now it does... so that might say something. Nord not happy, Nord now scared of cold. Nord might move to tropics, only cold there goes in drink :D

Folkeye I feel your pain - my Breton already not happy about the 25% drop just crossing the border into skyrim but to reduce it further to 0%, she wants to kick some serious ass but, um, can't ;)

Yep my flame atronach takes damage from flames as well. Going to try starting a brand new game and see if the same is true there, maybe this is some unexpected funkiness connected to pre-patch saves.

LOL i can confirm this too. My magic resistance is nullified as well. I also remember the Atronach not taking damage before the patch, but it is now hurting it. I'm glad they managed to somehow fix the lag/freeze a bit but how can they miss something so obvious? How many beta testers does this game have?

Happened to me last night too. I fought a blood dragon, was scrambling around trying to stay healthly. But the real kicker was I was fighting a roadblock full of bandits and I was toe to toe with an iron armor clad two handed warrior. All of a sudden I hear electricity and I was dead in two hits and it wasn't the bandit. He was staggerred when i died I had just chugged two potions for 90% of my health and I rode the lightning.

Completed the Companion quests and became a werewolf which pre-patch made you 100% resistant to all diseases including vampirism. After the patch I'm back to contracting Rockjoint.

I got taken down by a shock mage last night despite having 590 unbuffed health and two pieces of resist jewelry that puts me over the 85% resist cap.

Before the patch I could shrug off their attacks with a pair of 50% resist boots.

I'm having something similar...l I don't see any diseases on my Active Effects but people still tell me stuff like "You look pale. Are you sick?"

So pretty much the resistance and affects are not working. I thought I was the only one noticing this. Seriously, I thought I was the only one until I actually read this thread. I have this Elven boots that gives me 40% resistance and I'm a Nord, so that's an additional 50% resistance. Total of 90% frost resistance, simple math right? Wrong. The game doesn't even apply it or maybe not even acknowledging it at all, even from the enemies. It's not just the player but others as well. I get killed by the dragon's ice breath in 3 seconds. Even though I can still kill a dragon or those who cast magic on me, it's still ridiculous.

I had a hard time killing the damn Forsworns at the Karthspire Camp. There was this one lady casting ice spikes at me and all of a sudden, bam, I'm dead in 2 seconds while I was healing Esbern and Delphine. Followers need to look into as well. They get hurt easily and die in the process. Especially getting hurt by a destruction magic.

I deleted all Skyrim data of my PS3 and did a fresh install, and started again with a brand new game and magic resistance is messed up still.

So starting a new game wont fix it.

My guy is a Nord Vampire. Nord and Vampire frost resist out the ass with massive fire weakness.

I played earlier today and fire and ice both hurt me equally.

Bethesda, this is not cool. You sell nearly 1 million copies to a system you don't seriously? That's absolutely unacceptable. Profits came in, you have your money, now please fix our games in a timely fashion.

Well I just experienced what that other guy said.
My werewolf blood was supposed to keep me from having diseases but it didn't.
Just contracted one from a trap...

Look at the upside! Those mobs with the resistances are now just as weak as you are! :D
...still a shame tho..

There is nothing to investigate. The issue is real. I made a video myself of this issue in action on Atronachs (who SHOULD be immune to their own elements).

There you go, visual proof that the patch completely screwed up resistances.

By "investigating" it's probably meant that they're figuring out what broke it and working on fixing it. Probably a totally unexpected (and as a result, untested) side effect of the patch.

I don't think it's only Magic Resistance that's flawed now.
I think armor ratings are too... I mean now Frost Dragons take out like 80% of my life in one breath!
I don't recall it being like that before...

Plus, my werewolf blood doesn't keep me from getting diseases.

Both the additional things you mentioned there have to do with resistances and not armor ratings at all.

Wow, thank you Lancun. I can't believe this- totally voided out the main reason I even leveled a Breton in the first place.
I hope Bethesda sees this soon and patches it up. Two steps forward and five back, eh?

It's like the universe doesn't want me to enjoy this game. ._.
