Ganking?

Post » Wed Feb 13, 2013 9:20 pm

TF: So a lot of people love open world PvP, meaning you can roam around and find someone who is questing and you can ruin their day. I’ve heard that you are going to have quest areas in Cyrodiil so people who enjoy that type of PvP will be able to go and roam around and look for people who maybe aren’t necessarily expecting combat?

BW: Yeah, exactly. So there are Bruma, Cheydinhal, Chorrol, and two other towns, Cropsford and Hackdirt which are all places from TES4: Oblivion. We felt like we needed to give them some sort of purpose, so we have filled them with citizens from Cyrodiil who are living through this war going on all around them and they are trying to survive. They are like “please help us kill the raiders who keep attacking us”, or “just get rid of the bears that are raiding us at night” or “just collect some things for us”, so there are definitely PvE quests to do. Also, there are all the public dungeons; we have a lot of public dungeons in Cyrodiil as well.

Maybe a bit old information I got from http://tamrielfoundry.com/2012/10/interview-brian-wheeler/ back in October but I just wanted to highlight this part.

This means we can ambush people!

True but for some it won't be good enough unless there is a 10+ lvl difference and their targets don't stand much of a chance. In Cyrodiil you get lvl boosted so gankees stand a better chance.

Just lack a ranking of best pvp player, duel, mass pvp etc..
Anyway this, made my day.

The important difference to open world PvP is: Those PvE quest areas/dungeons are in the PvP area of the game. So anyone coming should be well aware of the risk he's taking and bring along guards if he isn't a PvPer himself. Something that should not be a problem as PvPers should be easily found in ESO.

I'm okay with this ... Still hope that naysayers won't be that loud since they are not forced to level there and are aware of the enemies' presence in this area.

I was under the impression world pvp wasn't going to be an option with invisible walls, so people couldn't go into other factions areas? are there going to be a sort of cross over point then?

Firstly Welcome to the Forums! And all the PVP will be in the middle part of the map called Cyrodiil, and no you cant go into other factions areas.

Holy moley, you are telling me that Cyrodiil is a PvP zone, I've only know that for the last 6 months. People DAoC (wait scratch I mean ESO) leveling is a PvP free. The game starts at max level in which the game is 99% PvP.

WOW! i'm shocked none of us knew that Cyrodiil was a massive PVP-PVE contested area with cities towns and contested mobs and even a Darkness Fall type dungeon which you found in DAOC.

And to the above post, nope the game is not 99% PVP at max level.

Only to the complainers. PvP is PvP level, class, and skill is irrelevant. You go to Cyrodiil and you will get killed ganking is just a term for complaining about losing in PvP.

By ganking i meant killing other players who are busy doing their PVE quests and stuff, who arent prepared for PvP combat or dont have the time for it. I enjoy making other peoples game play experience really miserable lol

Imagine this.

A large triangle with each faction representing one point on the triangle and the interior being the PvP area where all 3 factions can fight.

If you are outside the triangle you will not see other faction members nor be allowed outside your factions map area.

If you're a stealth character you can probably just wait in a questing area until someone comes along and pulls a mob.

Nope, ganking is when you are out questing and you are attacked unawares and then camped until you have to log out or call in guildies to help ya.

As someone who loves PvE way more than PvP I hope you are right.

So far, I hear tons so there are going to be statements. There will be PvE dungeons (in Cyrodiil), there will be heroic dungeons, there will be tons of PvE content. However, I have yet to see a scrap of any of it. Everything is pretty much formally shown players has focused around PvP. Cyrodiil this Cyrodiil. Heck, I am not sure there is even a single screen shot from something other then the Ebonheart pact.

Given this game is made by the developers of a game that was 99% devoted to PvP allow me to be someone cautious until such time that the developers decide to actually show us a scrap or two of PvE content.

You have to be pretty stupid to go to Cyrodiil and think you are not going to be killed while PVEing, their is griefing and PVPing. If real life is so bad that you feel like an utter wimp and ganking/grifeing in a mmo is the only way you can feel big then it's pathetic to say the least.

That's because we haven't really had info on PVE it's mainly been about PVP, plenty of info to come. :D

Exactly. People go on PvP servers where open world pvp is allowed and complain about it. But in SWTOR, killing someone Over and over and over is in an open world pvp area is reportable, as its considered harassment.

And your last sentence is completely ridiculous. You might as well change it to "if real life is so bad you must play video games". Ganking is fun you should try it some time

Oh I see that myth. That thing that supposedly always happens on the PvP servers of game like WOW but almost never actually does. Not the killing while questing part (which happens a lot) the camping part (which happens almost never).

Once again PvP in a PvP zone is PvP. Questing in a PvP zone means you might PvP. PvP is not a honorable dual in which each man (or woman) insures that the other is totally ready and prepared. PvP is killing the other faction and giving your faction and advantage in Cyrodiil.
