guess what i just saw at my local blockbuster

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 6:09 pm

yep skyrim. along with all the other releases that are supposed to come out tuesday, they assumed skyrim was too. it pained me more than you know to pass up skyrim early, and i hated being "that guy" but i told them it doesn't come out till friday and the manager was really grateful.

How does a chain store make that kinda mistake? Usually if you scan a shipment it says when the game is supposed to release.

Well, that's some willpower you got there. I would've grabbed a copy and been trying to fight my evil grin / laugh combo while walking out of the store.

(Am I the only one who's going to go check his local rental store, now? :D)

So do games normally come out on a tuesday? I've never been interested in game releases untill Skyrim, but couldn't help but notice that CoD:MW3 comes out on a tuesday as every single advertisment hoarding in Manchester is covered in them.

Films are traditionally released on fridays and opening weekend sales are measured accordingly.

Good job. Seriously erks me that we are waiting impatiently for it and others are getting to enjoy it. I'm spending my time learning the Morrowind theme for ocarina and yet I know someone somewhere likely just "fus roh dah"ed some fools to death. I work at walmart, my gf's brother does too, we are on good terms with several people capable of selling the game to us early and yet we don't and why do you ask? We respect bethesda and the fans.

OMG, I don't want to be a bad person, but...I would have bought it right there...right then...Me buying it a few days early would not hurt their sales...

Yes. I would say at least 99% of games come out on Tuesdays.

They already did go out of business, they were just bought out by another company.

Tuesday's are typical Movie Release dates for Video. Most game publishers follow suit and release on Tuesdays. 11-11-11 was just too cool a date to pass up, so they picked that instead of 11-8-11 which does not have the same panache.

Usually what happens is that the game is on the system at a ridiculous price say '999'. So when a colleague scans the item to sell, they think 'What the Hell?!' and therefore realise it's not released yet, unless the individual wants to pay 999, which I guess some people might. The shop won't scan the item until someoe tries to buy it, therefore they don't really know. That's how it worked in my store, just thought I'd give a little information.
