Awsome
Also kind of a small issue, but can you punch in the number of items you want to drop? (cause dropping or putting 1500 out of 2000 bullets in a locker takes awhile in FO3...)

Ya, I just randomly thought of it since in hardcoe mode you are gonna need to store alot of your bullets and items somewhere
Also destroying a faction's economy could raise prices but also raise what stuff is worth to merchants...

Defintely a good read. Some of the 'tips' are funny though, got a good laugh out of this thread.

A lot of helpful hints, too. Mostly common sense though.

Some people are bone heads and have no clue how to play fallout, yet they want to play hardcoe so hey go ahead and take these hints. But yea i give credit to all the users that give a strategy or tip. When game comes out i hope to perfect this guide. Right now its just to get more people pumped for hardcoe.

Make caches in the wasteland.
Especially useful if you aren't fast traveling. If you've scouted out an area, and you know you have an objective in the area, bring a bunch of food, water, meds, and ammo, and stash it in an easy to find location nearby. That way, if things get really bad, you have a place you can go back to to resupply.

You can also make loot caches, if you've taken too much loot, drop it somewhere you can remember to come back for, and go about your business.

try (if your good enought) pickpocketing and putpocketing (placing a landmine or a grenade) since it instantly kills. works with swamp lurks in PL DLC!
you get extra exp at the cost of an explosive that wouldnt normally kill the enemy

Also unbalanced.

unique weapons are your freinds. they are better then their lesser counter parts and have unique abillitys!

Maybe, but a fully mod'ed regular weapon might be on par with the unique one. And maybe Unique one's can't get mods.
And dude, edit your post instead of doubleposting.

use V.A.T.S to scout the landscape instead of you binoculars (if you dont have any).

In fallout 3 VATS could pretty much had sniper range when it came to clicking it like mad to scan the area.
Dude, edit your post instead of tripleposting.

if you own some raider amour and you killed an entire raider squad repair yours with theirs!

Maybe it's different this time around with raider armor, so that you can only repair your blastmaster armor with a blastmaster armor and not a pain-giver armor.
(would make more sense)
And dude... Seriously... Edit your post instead of quadrupleposting.
Look at your post, look down to the lower right of it. There's a button there called "edit", click that one instead of instantly posting another reply.

Always use good penmanship.

But srsly, I've been wondering if it's wise to play the game the first time through on hard, with hardcoe mode, but without tagging survival. I'll probably play a thiefly character so I'm hoping I can steal and scavenge all I need.

Well it's doable but it's best to tag it I guess.
Unless you want hardcoe Mode to be even more hardcoe...

:shifty:
I think I just figured something out.

Thanx for the tips.

But i will actually go rather slow forward in the game.
I will take food and water, then go out in the wastes for maybe a few game hours and then return home. a true wastelander

Plan the time you will spend out in the wasteland.
Wake up at 5 AM and return before the night if possible. Always stop by settlements. If you are going for a longer trip carry food and water.

  • If you haven't pre-ordered FONV yet, the "Classic Pack" from Gamestop has an exclusive Canteen which will help with hydration. Otherwise you will have to wait until you have access to combat armors later in the game that have canteens built into the suits.

  • Since ammo has weight in hardcoe mode, the "Recharger Rifle" should come in very handy as a primary or even a backup weapon since it self-charges and requires no ammo, you just have to space out your shots to allow for the recharge time.

  • I'm not sure if you will have access to a player "house" early in the game, but if not it will be good to keep everything you have scavenged in a container in one of the friendly towns. Dump all the food, water and ammo you won't immediately use into that container along with "craftable" junk.

  • You can also keep "repair" material, such as guns and armor of the same type you are using in that container.

  • We are waiting on more details, but it looks like the "Survival" skill will go hand in hand with hardcoe mode, because it will allow you to "craft" food and other meds you will need to make it through hardcoe.

Always have a mental map of where you are and where the nearest settlements are,

Plan your exits,

Always pack enough ammo for double what you need, you never know what will come up.

Thats all i can think of off the top of my head...

Okay, I know some threads seem weird since the game isn't even out yet but this one takes the cake.
We have no way of knowing how long it'll take for dehydration to kick in and what it's effects will be.
So this thread is 1 month ahead of itself.

I couldn't agree more. This is like a blind man describing a painting.

A throwback tip from 1980's Wall street: Buy Low, Sell High. Buy an item (or find it) at low value and sell it where you can get the best deal.

General stores may be good to find items you use regularly, but specialty stores will sell low, and buy high. Especially chem dealers.

For the more mentally unstable characters, when bartering doesn't work, there is always "shotgun diplomacy."

Find deals that will get you more than base value (i.e., blood packs in Meresti, Sugar Bombs used to make ultra jet, etc.). Once you do, establish a trade route once you stock up on high profit items.

Us born barterers celebrate the Sabbath on Saturday. We are not allowed to work on this day.

No, we already have the basic ideas of how hardcoe mode works and we have tons of info, also from experience with other games (STALKER or even FO3 with mods) and common sense we can create lots of tips that will actually be useful and will work in the game.

Based on first impressions of news of the game, my weapon load out tips are:

Scaving centered play - Repeater rifle or Recharging rifle, laser pistol, frag mines, and light armor or clothing. Leaves a lot of weight for carrying items you pick up or you take with you for an extended period of time, and leaves you unhampered so you can bug-out, setting mines for any would be assailants.

Sniping centered - Anti material or scoped hunting rifles, a silenced smg of sorts, C4, and light to medium armor. Allows you to go from hide to hide quickly, deal with bum rushers, and set traps for any stragglers you miss with your rifle, or people that go to search your former hide.

CQC centered play - shotgun or smg of choice, machete, frags, and medium armor. Allows you to stick and move, while taking some punishment.

Walking Tank centered - Grenade launcher (Non-machine variant), sledge hammer, and heavy armor. Makes you able to kill groups of enemies, from close or mid-distance, while not taking too much damage.

All of these are good for when you know what your mission entails, but a good general load out would be light armor, a carbine or repeater, a 9mm, C4, and a melee weapon of choice.

You can make conjecture based on minuscule percentage of facts extrapolated to contain information which has very little specific use or meaning.
