I Have a Major Problem with New Vegas

Post » Tue Jan 25, 2011 2:31 pm

Okay one thing to begin with: It’s not what you think

So here’s my dilemma:

I started a new character not too long ago with one sole intention in mind, the destruction and/or death of Mr. House. Perhaps I would join the Legion or perhaps I would go with the wildcard play and join with Yes Man, in any case my character, Ivan, would end up taking the life of House by his own hand.

Ivan began his quest for domination in the New Vegas strip as any good future-leader would do, he solidified friendships, he built new alliances, he created contacts with the shady Freeside underworld for a supply of weapons, he had gone to work grudgingly for the Crimson Caravan company in order to fulfill his goals with mutters of vengeance under his breath, in short, he was a master manipulator. Then the moment had come, dawning a dark gamblers hat and suit with authority glasses taken off an NCR ranger who had been foolish enough to stand in his way, he walked coldly towards the lucky 38, his trusty 9mm submachine gun (Vance’s) at his side. Victor welcomed him in, informing Ivan that “the boss was upstairs waiting for him”, “good” Ivan muttered under his breath “I’ve been waiting to see him as well”. As he entered the dilapidated casino and entered the elevator, there was one thing that hung over his head “I must do what must be done; the weak must make way for the strong”. He exited the elevator and strode into the penthouse with confidence and then he saw him, Mr. House, or rather his computer. Then, House began to speak…

“This meeting has been a long time coming hasn’t it? You’ve come a long ways, literally and, I suspect, figuratively as well.”

Suddenly the confidence which had filled him for so long evaporated from his body, the thought that had filled all his waking hours for so long was gone, replaced…by a desire to serve whom he had wished destroyed..

“The business is this,” continued House “One of my employees’s has stolen an item of extraordinary value from me, and I want it recovered.”

Ivan, then, gave in. He kneeled before his new lord with reverence, a black hooded cloak, seemingly from no-where appeared on him, and he responded thusly..

“Yes…my master….”

The House always wins..always

Ok, so long story short…I can’t kill House…. No matter how much I try to psyche myself up for it by saying “Im going to play the game different this time,” I cant do it. This is my problem and I need help…
Prehaps some of the House-haters can give me some motivation to do him in (the best I could come up with so far is “Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.”)
Or perhaps the House-lovers can give me some motivation to continue to follow House?

Wrong section.

I kinda know how you feel, first playing NV I thought house would just be some corrupt guy after money, and I would just kill him, then he just convinced me to support him, I ahve tried the other options, but they dont feel right.
You also support the enclave. I like the way you think.

House started rob co, all alone. All of that pre war tech, he knows how to make it, securitrons, protectrons, mr handy, pip boys, everything. If you want to restore the world its clear who you must side with. Hell he is THE reason vegas still stands and isnt a hell hole, a survivor. There is no one else like him, even if you dislike how he works he is needed to improve the world.

Really? I haven't done a playthrough where I haven't killed him. When you actually get to the point where you kill him, however... It kind of makes me feel like a lousy human being.

Spoiler
Talk to Benny, then let him get away with the chip before talking to House.

After what he says about letting Benny go, I wanted to kill him.

I don't really hate house. I just view him as another greedy faction trying to kill off everyone else for his own benefit and what happens to everybody else is not of his concern just like the NCR or Legion. Makes it real easy to stroll in and do what needed to be done.

Yeah would be a shame if they had parts spoiled. Though I saw it coming, 200 years, and after Eden in 3. Only this time I can actually join the faction I want (was pro enclave all through 3) which is great. I think great things could have been done had house contacted the enclave in the area, ah the things that could have been.

@Guy above you choose the weak ncr (which seems like it will colapse any time now) or the uncivilised legion over house ? And yes man option will result in anarchy, or skynet.
House said it best "you want to see how old world democracies got us, look outside the window" and many other great words. I cant kill him.

I just want to know if he's a human or an A.I.

I don't support A.I., *COUGH* Skynet/Shodan anyone?

If he's a person that's different, though I don't see how he could be. Maybe a brain in a jar somewhere?

Or a ghoul.

Pfft, emotional bondage with a fictional character, Hehehe.... [censored] YOU BENNY FOR KILLING CHANCE!!! D:<

Okay, okay, there are some character out there one can get to fixated about, but just kill him, simple.
Stand in front of his computer in his steam room, if it becomes too emotional then take a 15 minute break, then press the a button, then take a 15 minute break and keep doing so until he is finally dead. :D

Seriously though, just let go of yourself and think about it like a movie, and the script says House dies, so House must die.

Right after Benny got away from me at Tops, I went to talk to House and he yelled at me and called me an idiot.
That's really the only mean thing he said to me.

I know it's hard, I love Harold but then I started up Fallout 2, modded my character, went over to Gecko, stared at him, feeling my tummy get this funny feeling, getting cold, then I entered the combat mode... Stood still for a while, then I finally right clicked to AIM, click Harold and picked eyes and down he went.
...
I never want to kill Harold again.

But do it for that playthrough, no matter how much it pains you it needs to be done, you need, to, kill, House! =D

All you need to know is that he is old world scum, responsible for a nucler war, was trying to profit off it and now he wants to continue his reign. No, his time is up, its a new world not his world so he must exit in an orderly fashion.

No, I have love for the Enclave, not for House.

Their relatively genocidal ambitions kind of caught me off rocker, but they had a hard decision. I just hope to see a more Autumist Enclave in future games.

yes, which is why he built a bunker, and protected vegas from nuclear devistation, at the risk of his own life. Profit, the dude has spent millions, maybe billions, money is useless to him, time well already lived 200+ years, no issue, women he has Jane. He dosent have a vice.

I like the Autumnist route of controling the water to get co operation, to rebuilt. But I dont have issue with the Edan route, lost die, but it would kill all raiders, ferals, everyone. A second chance. *sigh* I hope we can join the Autumnist Enclave in future games. That would be a good setting if you were in the enclave and could control its direction, maybe make people less hostile and make them more human. besides it would svck NCR has so much territory, house has Vegas (I am guessing it will be canon ending) CL has several states. And the enclave has nothin ?! WTF, how can a few tribals with machetes and a love of roman cosplay get more territory than Enclave.

I dont understand how the enclave are as they are in NV, so weak. So pathetic, how was the region reduced to that. the enclave could easily take territory, ncr is weak from war with caeser, and caesers men have machetes and hunting rifles... Just get a few vertibirds up and boom, caeser and his entire fort are gone, the ncr has more tech, but are spread thin. Only issue would be house v Enclave but they both have a common goal of restoring the old world, so would likely join forces. I know they havebeen in 2 games already but I really want to see the enclave have atleast a state, you could still get the psot apcaliptic thing just reference they have a territory somewhere.

Personally I like using c4 on Caeser. Just save and hope a limb gets left behind to loot.
