Hints found about the next DLC Found in 1.8 Beta

Post » Tue Oct 16, 2012 6:16 pm

i am pretty sure those ain't Birthsigns but those Stones that you had to visit in Bloodmoon to restore All-Maker's favor over the Skaal by immitating what Aevar Stone-Singer did (the Water, Earth, Beast, Tree, Sun and Wind stones). Wonder if they will be bonuses or Quest locations again.
Ah yes I think I remember now.

And Atmora
Ahh yes the mysterious land with nothing but ice.
Was it really that great of an area? I thought Mournhold was more impressive.
A lot of it stems from the love of bloodmoon really.

I'm hoping that Divayth Fyr makes an appearance.
Man if He returns then this DLC will be pure nostalgia.

Anyone see werewolf and vampire yet? Hes gonna be complaining about no focus on Vamps or werewolves
I already told him about it, but he has stuff going on, so he can't contribute to the discussion.

Things they implement need purpose, and sadly most of the stuff in that vid and in the DLCs so far? It's only purpose is roleplaying. Yes, it is a roleplaying game, but not everyone wants to roleplay a father and not everyone wants to roleplay a vampire lord. Those people walk away disappointed. In that sense, worrying about giving things a purpose and meaning instead. That's what Skyrim needs to learn to do.

While I agree with much of what you've said (and you know I do) I have to state that you're bordering on can't please everyone kind of field here. I GET what you're saying, but all in all that's kind of what it boils down to.

He never promised any of it, and if I'm to be brutally honest, I think a lot of that stuff is downright stupid.
It's all gimmicky. It's there because it looks cool, sounds cool and gets attention, but when you actually utilize it, you get bored with it after 30 minutes and then you go do something else. Personally I would argue that crossbows are a more welcome addition than the vampire lord form, and as this thread clearly shows, the new armor types seem to be more welcome than the dragon mount.

Some of them would be welcome, don't get me wrong. The lore obviously cries for werebears, gimmicky or no, and spears would be another welcomed combat style. The others though?

Dragon mounts are gimmicky.
Adoption is gimmicky.
The vampire lord form, partly due to it's implementation, is gimmicky.

Personally I just wish they would pick a point of focus and....focus on it! Skyrim is desperately trying to be everything under the sun, and failing miserably at it. The Elder Scrolls has always gotten praise for having a large scope of things to do, yes, but they're taking this too far now. Things they implement need purpose, and sadly most of the stuff in that vid and in the DLCs so far? It's only purpose is roleplaying. And Atmora
Yeah, that's me.

How do we think cities/towns will be handled? I'm really hoping for open cells as opposed to how they are currently handled. If there are dragon mounts, which I'm currently hoping is just a lie, then they might need to be open cells to avoid that horrible non-rendered version of cities from above.

People, remember that you're basing everything you say on a few files found in a patch. Declaring dragon mounts gimmicky, or singing undying praise for them, is a bit ... Presumptuous. For all we know, it could be NPCs or Draugr who have access to dragon mounts, as opposed to the player.

Keep an open mind, people

absolutely. It'd be a huge let down if the player could ride dragons. Skyrim's too small for that.

Well, if that turns out to be true, then modders will eventually make the player ride dragons either way, since the "mechanics" for it have been created.

Well that is what I'm saying.

A common discussion that comes up in the New Vegas forums is which ending will be canon. Elder Scrolls fans argue canon shouldn't exist so we can imagine our own character being canon. Classic Fallout fans argue there should be a canon winner of New Vegas because Fallout has ALWAYS had canon and people will be curious about what happened. Between those exist varying opinions, such as "something should happen to trivialize the war" to "just say an Indy Vegas exists but don't specify who leads it."

The thing is though, there's a crowd there that'll cry if their character is declared non-canon and there are people who will cry if the canon ending is "The Courier helped an army win Vegas before aliens blew up Vegas. The Courier left for Akav-I mean China, for no apparent reason and was never heard from again."

You CANNOT please everyone. One of these two will walk away unpleased, no matter what you do. That's simply fact. Unfortunately it seems Bethesda is in denial about this and desperately seeks to please everyone at all times. While that intent might be noble, it can often lead to sub-par results. All I ask is that they use personal judgement a bit more and learn how to say "no" when 15% of the fanbase wants something really stupid, and that the game have ONE focus that gets improved with every new installation, rather than "re-inventing" the game each time.

None so far, but if you look at the image with the icons in the OP, there's a journal header for the 'Dragonborn' quests (Dragonborn is what appears so far to be the name for the DLC), and I kind of thought the symbols you can see might be Grahl, they look almost like elephants to me. That's just an observation though, so it could easily be wrong.

That's true. It would make the map feel a lot smaller.
Although I guess it could work in some instances - real-time travel between Solstheim and Skyrim, perhaps?

I agree! With Dawnguard the topic was shattering lore - which it doesn't - and with Hearthfire it was copying a mod - which it doesn't. I'm sure everything will turn out well in the end with Dragonborn ;)

NPC mounts wouldn't be bad. But for PCs? Yeah, it's gimmicky and I don't see any way that Beth can pull it off in a satisfying manner with the current engine + console limitations.

Am I the only one concerned that with all this talk about the DLC dealing with Dragonborn? I will be upset if you have to become dragonborn to partake in the DLC. Bad enough you have to become dragonborn to do the cilvi war.
