So how many people had their PC versions run without a hitch

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 6:42 pm

Mine worked like a charm!
! pre downloaded from Steam, ran it at midnight. Not a single glitch or bug so far. Neither graphically nor game related. And I didn't even updated to the latest drivers. I still have the Rage/BF3 beta driver from Nvidia. The only thing I notice is that it scales really bad in SLI. GPU2 is usually at 4% load. Though that's probably a driver issue which should be solved soon. Not to mention you don't need a beefy SLI setup to run the game maxed out. They made this one beautiful in an artistic way without graphical insanity.

The game suggested Very High settings for me. When the game started, I was going at 9 FPS. Switched to low settings. 12 FPS. - _ -
I know exactly how you feel. Do you think Bethesda will release a patch soon?

I've played for 15 or 20 hours so far. No CTDs. No major bugs, only one moderate bug (relating to textures or shadows), but uncountably many minor bugs mostly relating to in-game menus. From a prior post of mine on a different thread:

My experience:

Gameplay: Overall, about what I expected. A solid entry in the spirit of Morrowind and Oblivion. Several problems so far, and I'm sure I'll encounter more, but so far it looks like an improvement over Oblivion. Of course, it takes a lot of time to really get a feel for this, so my opinion could be different in another day or two.

Graphics: Better than expected. My video card was ranked by the list on this forum at below the recommended specs, but not by a lot. It autodetected as ultra-high, I overrode that to approximately high (some custom settings), and it's been pretty decent in practice. There have been some persistent problems with... I guess it's lighting & shadows? I'm not quite sure, but every once in a while bands of light and dark seem to shadow various surfaces in really bizarre ways, but usually only for a couple of seconds. More common in towns than dungeons or wilderness.

UI: Worse than expected. No major bugs, not even any moderate bugs, but tons of minor bugs. Lots of different UI elements fail to update properly at times, or have keyboard and mouse interface schemes that conflict with each other, or have help text that fails to take in to account non-default keys, etc. Any one of the issues I've encountered is not even worth mentioning, but there's a ton of them and they add up. Really, it looks like not a lot of thought or effort or testing went in to the PC interface.

Launcher, startup movie & main menu: Better than expected. They reduced the number of movies played at start, showing more wisdom than I expected. The picture used for the launcher conveys a sense of an epic open-world nordic game quite well. The only thing that underperforms is the dragon emblem on the main menu suffering from aliasing issues.

Apart from people occasionally teleporting around, no issues. Performance is much better than i expected too, i have high+ settings (every slider maxed, checkbox checked, and selections on "High" or "8" :hehe:) and have better framerates than i ever had in Oblivion :lmao:

I posted here before, but I have to take it back since today I suddenly get random CTDs. Weird how that starts with no changes in settings or anything.

No problems here. Had to turn off the mouse smoothing / acceleration manually, but it's been fine after that. Running with very high settings, not a single problem so far. The interface is fine once you've learned it- not ideal, but not a deal-breaker either.

After reading all the complaints on the tech issues sub-forum, I was bracing for the worst. However, as it turns out, almost everything worked fine. Mouse works on the menus, no crashes so far, no texture issues or sound issues. It's not completely bug free, though, because my left hand (magic casting arm) sometimes stays extended even why I'm not casting anything.

Who else had their game run near flawlessly? Are we that lucky?
the only bug I have got are two :

1 the game runned unsmoth and the mouse feels lazy and delayed in movements wich is annoying , and sometimes the animations looked jumpy but that cous eI think was playing on a gtx 295 and a super resolutiojn of 2500 something with all max , not ultra but still high , then I switched playing on my 42 " tv with a xbox controller and all is smooth , nice and I can even set al tto max , ultra details full hd and the mouse is simply forgotten in place of the controller that works like a charm ....

2 the water looked transparend and missed all shaders , but that was not a bug , my error that I did not upgrade the drivers , so I did and voilà problem solved ...

After a little over 4 hours of play I can report that I've not had a single crash yet. However there are a few things that are driving me batty, but it's nothing game breaking and most likely can be solved with mods.

Maybe I'm just imagining it, but NVIDIA's latest drivers seem to be helping with performance (at least a little bit).

I've played 15 hours. I've had one crash in-game, it CTD'ed because I was grabbing some gold from a chest the exact moment I leveled up from a successful lock-pick. I also crashed on loading the first time I booted the game up - because of that sound glitch.

Besides that I've had no FPS lag and no crashes. I've got a semi-old rig as well and playing way over the recommended GFX settings, but my 8800 GTX is just easing along even in large battles.

I'm expecting to jump through hoops to get it installed. Don't like the idea of connecting to a middleman even if it is steam. Too many cooks spoil the broth.

After that patches will address crashes and other problems.

Knowing my luck I'll go through the painful installation process and the damn thing won't start at all...

PC version - Intel i7 - Vista - 64 bit - 3 Gig Ram - ATI4800 - it defaulted to run in my desktop window size of 1024X768 - no technical problems here.

I give the interface a 1 out of 10 (10 being the best).

Gameplay is putting me to sleep right now; I presume it will improve later.

In fairness, the UI is far better then what Oblivion had. Its sleeker, and easier to navigate. You can't please everyone, though. For what it is, I am very happy with it.

Game play is more or less along the same lines as Oblivion, so if you liked that game play, you will like this, if not, then move along. The biggest difference are mechanics of the skills, and combat is more dynamic.

As for my problems. I got the collectors edition. Pop in the disc to install, and my drive sounds like its trying to rev up but stops a split second later. Other discs worked fine but not the game disc. So I had to download the game though steam. Other then that, one crash, but otherwise flawless.

I think I'm on 13 hours now, the only bug so far was a texture less dragon (probably a shader of a magic effect that covered the dragon in a white grey texture) the next few dragons where fine and dandy. the other was a strange crash where my screen got white and orangy stripes on my screen, only happened once in the very start of the game, has not happened again.

Skyrim said to run Medium but I'm on Ultra without even a hickup or anything /shrugs . Looks great, feels great, plays great. Least buggy Beth game thusfar for me.

15 hours into the game, so far no crashes, the only problems are sometimes my character become half immersed in rocks, which looks funny. Another problem I've noticed is that sometimes when I use sprint and power attack, my character keeps on sprinting and hacking automatically and can't stop. It's probably a bug.

I had a couple of issues with the frame rate and the screen going blank, but that's because i needed to update the drivers for my graphics card. been playing for hours since with no issues at all.

I've had two freeze screens in 14hrs of play. I'm running at 60 fps on high settings, flawlessly. No shudder, no texture pop, nothing.

Great experience so far.

I've had two problems... random crashes to desktop, and an arrow that stuck in my neck and wouldn't go away. Aside from these annoyances, the game is running fine.

I get occasional stutters. Been playing it for about 20 hours straight, only seen 3-4 of them. No CTD's when i minimise, actually no CTD's at all. Having a great experience, lots to do and discover! :D

GTX580, i7 920, 6GB, windows7 64-bit and everything is on ultra setting, only really issue for me is the "super slow" mouse. Of course, temp fix for that.

Mine is running almost perfectly fine, as far as glitches are concerned. I think there were two times early on where the screen froze for about 3 seconds, but has hadnt recently. There are some definite things that mods will have to correct again and to get it looking much better you need to spend some time tweaking the ini files, which apparently disables Steam achievements. However, I will take a much better looking game over some Steam achievements any day.
