Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Thread #4

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 6:43 am

I downloaded the demo. There was one QTE. And it was with Reckoning mode. The combat was actually fun. I don't see how people could hate this combat system but like Skyrim's. Skyrim is just hack at enemey untill ememey dies. I don't get how people can hate the leveling system. The back story of your character was better the TES always start as a prisoner.

Just played the demo and im not impressed. Its a weird mix of fable(design), dragon age(character graphics) and god of war(game play). Nothing new on story line. Will buy it if i see it for $20. Its no SKYRIM!

I'm not getting anything near a Morrowind vibe from any of the videos or my very brief time with the demo.

I don't mind the whole fable thing, because the way i look at it, the idea behind Fable, along with its graphics isn't actually a bad thing in itself. Lionhead just executed it poorly or more to the point, they allow PM to dictate game play.

i loved Fable TLC, and Fable 2 delivered on story but failed miserably in almost every other department, but graphics weren't one of the sticking points. Whereas Fable 3 just failed on all fronts. I don't need gritty graphics to enjoy an RPG as long as the gameplay is up to standard, i really don't mind. After all, if i want semi realistic graphics i have a ton of others games i could play.

Played the demo on both PC and PS3, and i really like what i played. Now the only problem is whether to buy it for PS or PC :hehe: Graphics-wise i didn't see a big difference, controls-wise PS3 is better. Price-wise PC wins only by 5€ so that's not a big pro either

Is there a possiblity of mods for the PC version?

Just read a preview in an Xbox magazine. Some boss took two QTE's to finish, apparently. Now perhaps that is only to get whatever extra, but in my book that's still two too many, however you slice it.

The QTE's exist to give your character an XP boost as they defeat a boss.

It's like 'Test Your Might' in "Mortal Kombat" or the demonic finishers in "Bayonetta".

Don't get it confused with QTE's in "Resident Evil" or "Ninja Blade".

Yeah, atleast in the demo they are "mash a button for reward" type, not "act quickly or fail" type.

reminds me of fable too. I think it will be great action-rpg. I like KoAs graphical style.

Finally got around to playing the demo today. Massive amount of content for a demo. I've gone from not caring to seriously considering buying this.

The demo was incredibly glitchy, though. Ground textures disappearing, sound cutting out, and ultimately I ended up with unlimited time. Not sure how I pulled that off, but the timer's been sitting at 0 for awhile now.

EDIT: And the demo ended. Ah well, the extra few minutes were fun. :P

Played demo, didn't like it at all. Pity, was hoping for a new RPG that I'd enjoy. Probably had too high expectations based on the quality of the talent the've got on the dev team.

For those that can't play the demo, here's a few screens. I love magic in this game so I've gone through the demo twice as a mage.

I was wondering what game, the combat reminded me the most of and it was Jak and Daxter on the PS2. Loved that game.

Hmm, judging by these reactions this seems to be a "love it or hate it" game

I played the demo with a sneaky looking sort, since that's what i'm playing in Skyrim :hehe:, need to try again with mage. Though usually i play as a warrior/mage hybrid, though i doubt the demo is long to get a good look at multiclassing.

Reckoning Q&A, shows a bit of the gameplay that you wouldn't see in the demo and more importantly answers a good question about DLC.

Finally finished downloading the demo, and I must say it was fantastic. Fluid combat, a decent story, and best of all, dialogue trees with more than one option!!

Demo is good. Don't listen to the people who go in expecting Skyrim. This game seems to have an actual leveling system, instead just pick a perk. It seems to have a decent magic system with magic that actually deals damage (imagine that).

So I finally got to play the demo and I was not disappointed. I've said it before but I love the art style of this game. Im tired of realism in my games, its about time I got some high fantasy (no I don't play WoW and its been years since Fable). The combat was actually fun and addicting, Fae mode or whatever its called has some awesome finishers, I had some Fae gloves and snapped a guys neck, pretty bad ass. As a whole, I like the assassin and magic routes, I need to try the warrior more but the hammers seem ridiculously slow.

I thought it was pretty meh. I definitely got a "Elder Scrolls B game" vibe off it, i may buy it later down the line but playing it so close to Skyrim is only going to be bad for my experience with it.

It's about as far from an "Elder Scrolls B game" as it can get. The gameplay and progression are worlds apart, not to mention the art styles are completely different.

This.

I don't get how people are making any comparisons between the two.
