Lesser Race 12: Continuation of the Subgradient #8

Argonians certainly aren't the weakest. The Argonians were the only group to successfully push back the Daedric incursions during the Oblivion Crisis, outside of the CoC/Martin Septim. As the story goes, they charged into Oblivion with such force and might that the Daedra actually closed their gates to prevent them from being overrun by the Argonians.

Everyone else was pretty much getting owned by the Daedra until Martin closed the gates. Skyrim, Morrowind, and Summerset Isles in particular were ravaged. I can't put the Argonians at the bottom in good faith. Even though they don't have the heroes (that we know of, at least) the Dunmer or Nords had, the typical Argonian is easily a match for any other race. They also survived centuries to neglect from the Empire and subjugation by the Dunmer and came out stronger then ever.
When they attacked Oblivion, it was an unexpected, insanely large blitzkrieg-esque assault that was so big and unexpected, that it forced the Daedra to close the gates. It was a very risky move by the Hist but it paid off in the end. The Argonions had no say in the attack, they were being controlled by their tree overlords.

A typical Argonion is a joke for most races. They are skilled in very specific terrain, when not in an area that fits the bill, they'll lose to any other race.

TES lore is riddled with failed invasions. For instance, a massive Nordic invasion led by Wulfharth himself was routed by the Dunmer even before the Tribunal gained their powers.

Perhaps the Dunmer should be considered due to the number of major invasions they've repelled (from a variety of sources to boot).
They are considered. I easily put them in my top 3.
The Dunmer had champions of their own in that battle. The son of Azura was there, and it is said that Dagoth Ur deceived the Nords and forced them into a trap.

Argonians sadly have been revealed as the weakest race...while they are no longer slaves to other mortal races they are still slaves to the hist.

Which is amusing to me for some reason. The Hist having firm control over the argonians and them trying to rebel against it would make an interesting story.

Yes, but unlike the Argonians, Nords have had many successful military campaigns as well as failed ones. Have the argonians invaded anyone else?

So far, it hasn't really worked against them. It's mostly been to their benefit. I have a feeling that if the Hist fall, it'll be because of our actions in a future game, and it likely won't help the Argonions, it'll probably hurt them (like breaking the Tribunal did to Morrowind).

Yes. The Argonians have developed so far as to become symbiotic with the Hist. The sap has a direct influence on their sixual and genetic makeup. They may simply die out with the Hist were the Hist to die.

The only people they invaded were the Dunmer, and that was with the Hist controlling them and after Vvardenfell pretty much exploded.

Not really. But again, the Nords are much more aggressive beyond their borders. The Argonians haven't tried very often. The Khajiit don't go beyond their borders either, though that may be because they lack the infrastructure necessary to organize a campaign.

Not to mention it was an incomplete invasion. They were repelled when they got further north.

They've invaded Cyrodiil and Morrowind before that. The Cyrodiil campaign was destroyed and the Morrowind campaign was mostly unsuccessful (i.e. they acquired some southern lands but lost overall).

So in the end, even with the Hist, they can't really take control of anyone?

Dagoth and the Tribunal were there, but as I was corrected on earlier, they had not come into contact with the Heart at that point. They were more than a normal Dunmer, but still shells of what they would later become. The Five Songs of Wulfharth is a mess, though. It's hard to take anything written in it for granted.

Yup, and some of the "facts" in the Red Mountain part admit that they contradict each other.

They're not the best, yes. They're pretty much survivalists. Who else can altogether resist diseases, poisons, and breath underwater naturally? With that and experience, they make for some of the best special operatives in Tamriel. As a raw military force, I don't think they're quite as experienced as the Nords or Imperials.

This^ It seems they are essential parts to a military, but alone they can't do much without the Hist.

That is speculation. We have no solid proof that he was a Dragon cultist. It'a possible, but not proven. From what we've seen in Skyrim, the Dragons subjugated the Nords. They likely wouldn't take much interest in their goal to fight the Falmer, as it isn't their concern. Most Nords were their slaves, the ambitions of slaves most likely wouldn't really spur the Dragons to join the fight, they'd more likely try to quell it.

All pre-Dragon war Nords(Atmorans) were Dragon Cultists, it was their core religion. This is fact.

And no, just because of a few avatars of Shor =/= all Nords are omega powerful. They are average just like every other mortal race on Nirn with certain exceptional individuals. They happen to have the most due to being Lorkhan's favorites.

Where is this stated? They had various animal totems, dragons being only one.

Yesterday, you said Shezzarines were as strong as Lorkhan himself. Now today, you say that they are only a little exceptional?? And yes, the Nords of old were very powerful(far more so than the current Nords). The fact that they managed all these feats proves it. The 500 companions were all exceptional, they were Ysgramor's elite, and are considered the most famous fighting force in history. They wouldn't really be so famous if Dragons were doing all the work would they?
