Lesser Race 12: Continuation of the Subgradient #8

Post » Sun Jan 13, 2013 8:34 am

This is true. These 4 have always been the most powerful (until the Red Year). But it could also be noted that the members of each of these races are also the most dangerous individually. Altmer are powerful mages, Nords are the strongest humans and capable fighters+ they can shout, Redguards are the most skilled fighters in Tamriel and can sword sing, and Dunmer are all-round power houses, being skilled mages, swordsman, and rouges.
And it is their ability to have at least some degree of unity that have allowed them to become a global force by turning these strengths towards their enemies, unlike say the Orcs who are roughly on par with the Ra'Gada and Nords as warriors. It seems that once the Orcs are in the legion they are instantly recognized as valuable heavy and shock troopers counted among the finest in the Empire. A race's overall power cannot be counted from their individual strength alone, though there is a corrolation between them.

The Orcs have never had great numbers either. This probably contributed to their inability to form an effective unified force. But you are right, and I see where you're coming from.

When the Nords came to Skyrim the brought with them the Dragon Cult.

http://www.imperial-library.info/content/dragon-war

Even in light of this, there are literally no texts that suggest that dragons aided the Nords against the Falmer.

I think the most remarkable thing about these polls is the way in which the results shift from thread to thread.

There really doesn't appear to be any sort of consensus on which race is the strongest or weakest.

In fact, in this thread, the community seems to believe that Nords are simultaneously one of the strongest and one of the weakest races.

EDIT: And the same goes for the Tsaesci and Dragons (lol).

I think that, as probably mentioned earlier, comes from people voting for the favorite and least favorite races.

Well, the Altmer are always at the top (most of the time) so we at least know of their superiority. I still believe the Khajiit are the weakest. And they're one of my favorite races.

I think that statement might be profound in that it's universally applicable to this conversation.

How people view the strongest and weakest races may very well come down to a matter of subjective preference and prioritization.

This. It's probably because the races that are usually considered the best are generally also the ones that are the most loved and hated simultaneously, eg Nords and Altmer.

True enough. I reckon people sees the strengths of their favorite races more clearly than the other ones, which is why I insisted on looking at it from the perspective of what actually happened on Tamriel. The strengths and weaknesses of all the races can pretty much be argued for in most any way one wish.

I don't know about you guys, but I always choose the same thing. Nords for strongest and Imperials for weakest. I didn't comment on Akavir because I can't stand Akavir.

I have always put Nords for strongest and Bosmer for weakest. Although, Argonions are neck and neck with Bosmer.

Ah, a pretty good demonstration of what I mean. From your avatar I guess your favorite race are the Nords though, which would make that statement pointless. I mean, two Atmorans going at each other isn't going to determine anything related to this discussion ;)

Personally I find the dynamics of adding the Akaviri races to the mix fascinating, because of how exotic they are.

How do you compare Altmer and Nords to Vampire Snake people and snow demons?

I don't. Weaboo fightan magics don't flip my light on. Infact, I'd be happier with the series if they were completely retconned. But that's me.

Nuh uh, I'm a Tsaesci man through and through. Which I guess technically means I'm part snake.

EDIT: *ahem* I mean, part ssssssssssssnake.

Regardless of whether or not you like them, you must agree that it's interesting to see how people compare them to the more well-known and well-established races.

Not really. I mean, they're snake people and monkey people who have katanas. I just don't find it interesting.

I've never minded this except for Morrowind - Daedric Katanas, really?

Yeah, I never really saw katanas as a Daedric thing.

Nothing, but having Daedric Japanese weapons is a little..well.."Who the hell would do that?". The fact the Japanese inspired weapons were all over the place was one thing, but as super rare as Daedric is supposed to be, you've somehow got Daedric varieties, too.

To think of something that would be similarly out of place (but doesn't exist) think "Daedric Crossbow". See what I mean?
